- Sheryl is legally blind and has applied for a guide dog instead of using a cane. She first has to get matched with her future guide dog which requires a lot of testing to see how well they bond. The role of a guide dog is extremely difficult and the dog has to match the lifestyle of its owner. After trialling several dogs Sheryl hopes she has found the right dog with a black labrador called Mackenzie.

The goldey locks of the guide dog search! Ironically, she didn’t get a golden retriever from the pick & ended up with a black retriever & McKenzie was just right! Which is totally GOLDEN! 😉
Labradors are so amazing; truly a champion breed. They help so many! I hate seeing so many ruined by being cross bred with pitbulls (in the US at least...so many shelters list them as "lab mixes."). I was browsing my local shelter this weekend so this came to mind :(
I would really hate to be blind
There are ways to cope and learn to do things without vision. I'm speaking from personal experience because I'm blind myself. No vision whatsoever, and this is all I've known. Is life super tragic and all doom and gloom? No. Frustrating, yes, sometimes. But when you know how to do stuff without sight, it's not so bad. Iphones have text-to-speech software that reads what's on the screen so it's possible for me to respond to this comment and use social media, text, e-mail and so on. I had a guide dog for ten years but let the instructors at the school I chose here in the States do the choosing, and they did so well in picking the right dog. Now I'm more into cats and I'm well-adjusted to being a cane user again.
I never heard her say," Good boy ". After she told him to sit, and he sat. She was closed mouth. Not good for the dog. Nope.
Do you think the owners will have time to say good boy good girl every time their guide dog does their job?
I don't tell my dog " good boy" . I tell him "klasse" or "supi".... there are so many ways to reward a dog, the dog does understand. The blind people have to get to know the dogs, it's a lot at first and obviously the lady just didn't click with the other dogs but Mackensy.

Yeah Newfies. I love these Gentle Giants. When I grew up in NY a friend of mine owned a black Newfie. And his name may of been Bear. I always wanted to own a Newfie.
YEAH BEAR caught on and will graduate with the kids. GORGIOUS NEWFIES. I love certain big dogs but Newfies own my ❤.
