I was recently upgrading the HDD on one of my computers and accidentally nuked the contents, losing about 50gb of music that I had backed up digitally from my old CD collection (with a few actual native purchases from Google/iTunes).
I remember using slsk once about 6 years ago(?) to listen to Boards of Canada but got overwhelmed by the relatively new experience of the program so I never used it again and deleted/uninstalled it.
I vaguely remember the whole etiquette and downloads thing. You've explained it all succinctly, so I'll take a look into this once again!
Would you recommend I share my "Music" folder or make a slsk folder like you've done in the video?

Honestly, I feel that most people just want to see people sharing SOMETHING and not being a bum. Obviously if you have things you don't want to share you don't even have to have it up there, but really, I just share whatever, and add everyone that I download from to the list. It doesn't guarantee anything but it just saves headaches.

Seems like people get mad if you don't share files. i'm new to this so idk what i'm supposed to do or put in my folder.. And is it dangerous in anyway downloading/uploading files to this? Have you come across anything sketchy through the years? I'm trying to follow etiquette, but will it affect my computer/internet if people are downloading my files like that? Yes people get mad. It's corny- most of the time people just want to know you aren't being a leech. TBH if I download ANYTHING, I add them. Just so I don't have to hear it. You can adjust the data amount in the actual download/upload section and really I never had any issues for maybe 20 years. Seriously. You can always pause downloads and uploads if you notice a speed problem. You can always cut people off completely if they are being greedy. So I don't know. I been using this shit probably since 99 or 2000 and really never had a problem other than the occasional jerk off blocking me.
It would be helpful if you compartmentalize the sections of the videos so that everyone has an easier time navigating through the individual points of the video

A weird question but how do i know if im downloading a good mp3 file (high kbps) and not just a yt rip. Great tutorial !
Thanks! So check it out, SOME but not all files actually display a bit rate. The higher the better. ALSO, if you look at those bitrates, you can see the files with a higher rate are bigger. Might not be by much you always will be able to see the file size whether the bitrate is posted up or not.

Id go into underground hiphop chat rooms with hundereds of people talking and learn about new underground rap and get put on to so many dope albums. It was the best experience. Allhiphop's website had a room users made, people used to argue and go at each other for days on end it was amazing

Yeah, some people will have an option selected where they won't allow you to download something from them if you're not sharing anything yourself.

Help Please - Do you know why every download I do says aborted and wont download ? I used soul seek years ago and came back to it and now it is not letting me download any songs at all;(
Is there anything i need prior to using soulseek? Like a vpn or an ad block? Also is there a way to tell if i file is legit without downloading it. Dont wanna get viruses
it might depend on your country's piracy laws but from what ive seen you don't need a vpn. no need for adblock either (though you should be using one for the internet as a whole, just makes life better!!) general rule of thumb for downloading anything online is to pay attention to file types (.mp3 for audio, .mp4 for video, etc. look up a chart for all the examples) don't download .exe files unless you're looking for that specific program and you'll be fine :))

pretty much. not that anyone is actually looking in real time but I've been auto blocked a lot. so i just right click and add to list almost as a practice at this point just to avoid it

i think u got an older version of the program. mine dont look like that. mine has a filter box at the bottom that lets me put in whatever i want to show, like no mp3, only flac. i cant seem to sort by the bitrate though. still trying to figure that out.
I mentioned that I'm using the old one around 1:45 . That's the version I came up with...never used the other builds.

Awesome video, I've used soulseek only for a year but now I can't live without it, downloading music never been so easy before (and I finally found the stuff I was looking for through torrents/blogspots for years). I had a 800 GB collection when I started using it and it always brings me some happiness when someone downloads something from my years long collection. Cheers :)

you have to manually make a shortcut. just find it in your programs folder and make a shortcut from the icon, as it doesnt just add to desktop on its own
