    Hello Teresa, I just saw the bulky yarn you bought, it looks lovely. It will be super soft but also pill super easy due to the construction as a single ply and the low amount of twist added. I wouldn't use it for anything that has to endure friction, a beanie should be fine. I would either get another skein of it or another single ply with similar wraps per inch (thickness) since the yardage seems pretty low and depending on the pattern you probably will need more.
    And thank you for all your videos, it is always a pleasure to see your beautiful stitching, crochet and crafting.

    When I walked over the line from stitcher to stitcher/flosstuber I believed I would maintain my modest stitching where I could show every project every video. Six months later I am starting everything, joining all the SALs and checking Etsy to see who has sent me a coupon because we all know coupons must be used to respect the designers. I now know why you have so many beautiful projects and say hi five. You are awesome.

    Yes! You can definitely do a one-color beanie with crochet! SOOO many wonderful online tutorials. My grandmother taught me to crochet years ago and I love it...I think it's much easier than knitting, especially when it comes to trouble shooting. I finished Barbara Ana"s Dancer this year and it is gorgeous! I put it on a a dark gray snow dotted linen and it is perfect. I LOVE Barbara Ana. Your projects are beautiful.

    I am so happy for you that all of the trees are done on the Chatelaine! You must be motivated to fly through the rest now! Ravelry is a great source for crochet as well as knit patterns. You can do a defined search, filtering what you are looking for, whether you want crochet or knit patterns, the weight of your yarn, the yardage you have, and other options. There's so many possibilities! Beware! Rabbit Hole Ahead! LOL

    When my grandmother taught me to crochet, I remember the main thing she kept stressing to me was to NOT read ahead in the actual instructions of the pattern. She said to do one part at a time, and everything will reveal itself and make more sense when you get to those steps that seemed confusing. So, I would still give those easter baskets a go, but take it in bite-sized steps!

    I rarely buy patterns or fabric, but I’ve gotten 3 loads of pass the stash recently and despite picking what I want carefully and passing the rest on, it feels like my stash has doubled. I’ve finished 5 projects this year (3 small, 2 medium), started 3 and feel like I’m drowning in choices despite having less things to pick from. Only 19 wips, only 3/19 are larges, everything is 2016 or newer for a start (4 were started before 2023 so I’m doing reasonably well at finishing things. My secret is saying no to all the sals, and for HAED size pieces I love, finding the art as a jigsaw puzzle…much faster.
    Speaking of HAEDs, time to get back to filling in confetti.

    It's funny isn't it that you'd think stitching on even weave is easier as it's 'even' and should be easy to see the holes lol. I find linen much easier and nicer to stitch on! The linen from West Green looks gorgeous - I must try some. Lovely to catch up with you xx

Quick question regarding your chatelaine… I am stitching the dragonfly Mondala and have it on Ominak Bars as well, I use a lowery stand. At the moment I am feeling claustrophobic when stitching this. Don't feel alone Tereasa, all crochet projects curl up. I don't know if it will work for yarn, but my solution that works for me is, when finished, I soak it in water to let the fibers relax. Then I block it and let it lay flat to dry. But I do the crochet thread, doilies and such as that. Don't know if that would work for yarn. The thread is 100% cotton.

  • @Raffipops
    @Raffipops 9 місяців тому +1

    If you find a pattern that you want to do (for your crochet hat), the design always (should be always) tells you how much yarn you need, so before starting you can see whether you need more or not. You can (not easily) change the yarn thickness within a project, for example, the brim of the hat, but then you would have to change the number of stitches (increase or decrease) change the hook, etc, if you are just starting out in crochet don't try cos it will just be frustrating for you! Pick a pattern, in ravelry you can search for "hats" in "bulky yarn" in "crochet". See what comes up

  • @anna_notherthing
    @anna_notherthing 9 місяців тому

    Watching you as alternative to work… To get another yarn - use the metres or yards per 100g to get something close to the same yarn weight. Eg 65m per 100g. Then you can have something the same thickness as the lovely yarn you have. The weight name changes by country, but the length to weight does not!

    I have thought about doing an afghan but I am afraid of the back. My project backs don't look too messy but I wouldn't want anyone to see them. Do you carry threads and not have them catch on thing? Do you put a backing on them? Please explain what you do. Thanks.
