It's quite possible that CP3 will come in, in the best shape of his life. If I were Pop, I'd tell CP to play balls to the wall but then get relieved by Castle who could also play with high energy on defense. Trey could play if needed. With Wmby, Sochan and Castle shutting down the other team, they could get some transition buckets thereby minimizing the need for 3P shooters.
@@brushylake4606castle isn't a pg and likely won't be good enough to be one for at least a year or two. He's a sg who can pass but can't shoot currently
By next season, I can see Wemby getting on the All NBA 2nd team and being hailed as the DPOY.. then by his third season, it's surely gonna be All NBA First Team and DPOY as well. And after that, he'll be an NBA Champion, the league's MVP and DPOY every year! =) Go Spurs Go!!!
45+ wins this season. The Sochan "PG experiment" was CIA Pop tanking. Sochan is part of the young core (VW-Vassell-Castle-and the Hawks 2025 #1 draft pick) that can bring more titles to SA than the 4 title that the Triplets (Timmy-Manu-Parker) did. VW-Sochan-Castle-Vassell-CP3 is a defensive lockdown team PLUS enough offense to win the 20 games they lost last year when they went into the 4Q leading.
Really liked the video, but there's a thing I disagree with. The Sochan PG experiment actually worked as intended. We lost a lot of games in that span which allowed us to have a top 5 pick again. Jeremy obv benefitted from it in many aspects such as ball handling and being able to deal with ball pressure. I think the long term plan is surrounding Wemby with good ball handlers that are also capable defenders, and drafting a guy like Castle seems another step in this direction. Greetings from Italy!
All the talking heads who expected the Spurs to make big win now moves don't understand a. the psychology of the Spurs (and I believe Wemby) and b. the new CBA and long term success. Markkanen would have been a great pickup, the price would be too high. The new CBA requires one or two players worth a max contract, a few veterans on below market contracts and a large number of capable young players. There's no way the Spurs are sending the (probably five) first round picks that the Jazz would have required. They're not going to mortgage their future for a bloated and broken down roster in five to ten years. The cheaper but sexy move for a flawed player is also a bad strategy. Young is not a player that is going to contribute positively to the Spurs. He's not "over himself" as Pop demands and isn't going to make the locker room or on court situation better. He's talented, but I think he'll always fall short. The other thing everyone wants the Spurs to do is to take a Brandon Ingram or similar player. The Spurs know how devastating a max contract for a player that isn't really worth it can be to the team's future. Having said all that, I think that Wemby is mature enough and intelligent enough to have the patience required to make something special.
I agree with all points. I said even if you want to trade for a players, this is not the year to do it. No player is going to come in and make us a championship level team. Our goal is not the playoffs. Trae Young would hurt our defense horribly and cripple the cap. Markennan while good is not an All Star level player and not worth the capital we'd have to give up. Same for Ingram but more so.
I thought a big move this quick wasn’t very spurs like but the combination of pop’s age and how good Wemby is already made me think it would be in the cards.
@MunchCrunchTime Maybe after this season. But looking at the roster objectively, our bench isn't good. Tre Jones is solid, and could be a part in the future. Branham worst defender in the league, and not a consistent scorer. Keldon would be a good 6th man if he didn't have tunnel vision and resort to hero ball. Collins is a turnstile at C. Not a good shooter, avg to poor rebounder. Maybe he'll be better as a PF. Looking at our starters, SF is the weakest spot. Barnes could help. But we need a near overhaul of the bench. We also don't have a good number 2. I see Vassel as a number 3. Trading for one guy won't fix that. Hopefully next offseason we draft our number 2 and sign some quality vets for the bench. Then you can make your big trade or signing.
This is still the time for the spurs to be maximizing their assets... they will not even be looking to win more than 40 games... they want two real chances (with atlants's pick too) at Flagg or one of the other 3 top guys in this draft
Buckets win games. The Spurs will be getting a lot of open looks for Barnes (39% from 3P) CP3 (37%.) and lots of alley oops. What will shock the league is that the opposition will get a lot fewer buckets because Sochan and Vassel want to be shut down defenders. IOW, the Spurs will be winning it all THIS year!
Vassell is not a shut down defender and hasn't even really been good since dejounte left. He gets lost on screens constantly gets lost off ball and gambles a ton. He can be a very good defender but he's been at best lackluster so far into his career
Spurs are going to sweep the 2030s. They have a at chance a real dominance like there hasn't been in 30 years. Every year is going to be a foregone conclusion and we'll have fun watching to see who they have to beat from the east next.
PATFO needs to trim the # of players they have. I say these 5 players - Keldon-Collins-Branham-Jones-Bassey (quick, b4 he gets hurt again) - will be gone by the February trade deadline. Traded for an all-star SF (Brandon Ingram?). One rumor I heard was Cade Cunningham. But Blake Wesley's athleticism is "through the roof" (see “Blake Wesley Highlights”) and in Year 3 he will prove haters wrong. Spurs will p/u his option to be the b/u point guard/Sixth Man of the future.
If wemby gets in the playoffs he'll be trouuuuuuuble. 4 games out of 7 against him as he is now is not possible. He himself will win you at least 2. He just needs a semi good playoff team.
