This is the best Shapeshifter cover currently on UA-cam, and the song has one of the sickest riffs I've heard in years. I'm glad Hum is back. I wasn't aware of them 22+ years ago so I felt like I missed out.
HUM's greatest-ever song closed out what will likely be its final album. doesnt get any better than that. Inlet still feels like such a gift. what a record. great work on this cover. looking forward to giving it a try.
Your tone rules. I'm new to these guys and this is my favorite track on the album. Some of this almost has a heavy, early 2000's era Kings X feel to me. Great job on the cover!
Hey buddy, went to Alabama and sold my mom's house and car. Waiting for headstone for her gravesite. This song, your version, has a centering effect for me. 2 of our 4 dogs seem to like it too
Ha! Checking in. Hope you're doing well. Here for my monthly dose. My dog Kramer passed away 2 months ago. Getting over it, as we go. Thank you, again, for this version.
Damn josh! Very well done! Haven't listened to that specific song thoroughly so i dont really know if the timing are spot on or not, but i knoe you'll make it perfect as is👌🏼. This makes me wanna cover the summoning!
I retired from my job 3 days ago. Been into a guitar shop by accident. Looking at a Fender Jaguar with 2 humbuckers. White with a white strike plate. But, I am a drummer.
I played in drop C, which seemed fingering-wise and historically for HUM the most logical. I keyed in on the low C in the 3rd phrase of the riff, as well as the open chords at the end of the song.
Man that was awesome! Can you tell me what kind of amp you're using or some things about your rig because your tone is great. And what tuning if possible. Thanks very much! Great job!
Sorry I missed this comment. I'm using a Yamaha THR10X and just a Warmoth Strat I built with a Pegasus humbucker. That's it really. The tuning is drop C. Thanks!
Thank you so much. I used no pedals; I am playing straight into a Yamaha THR10X amp although there is slight chorus, reverb, and maybe delay (I can't remember now) over some high gain amp model.
Thank you, I only have a Yamaha THR10X and use all the built-in effects (here, some chorus, delay, and reverb on the “Brown II” amp I think). Truthfully, it’s a preset I kinda just whipped together really fast one day to jam old HUM songs with but it seems to work! My guitar is very simple as well, just a Warmoth Strat I built with some humbuckers. The one heard here is a Pegasus, chosen mainly because I liked the name. I recorded direct with the amp’s USB interface because I don’t have any other means. I also don’t own monitors, so I pulled out a lot of mids, bumped a narrow part of the highs and mostly hoped for the best.
The outro is one of the most beautiful moments in rock history period.
The outro reminds me so much of Pinback’s Grey Machine, except about rebirth rather than utter resignation.

Thank you so much for the kind words. You found them now at least!
Feel the same way....where have you been all my life?

great work on this cover. looking forward to giving it a try.
Shapeshifter and Folding are my favorites from the new album. Really hope Hum tours when this Covid stuff is over.
Those are my 2 favorites, too. Although, I like the whole album! Inlet deserves a nice tour after this.

100% a bright spot in a terrible year. I really got to know this album while hiking one day, it was amazing. Sounds great man.

Hello, sounds like you've been dealing with a lot lately. I'm glad my video could help. I appreciate the comment, as well as your dogs' approval. 🦮
And again. Saying goodbye to 2020. Let's have a much better year. Cheers my friend.
Hah.....I always wins up here. Happy New Year!!!!!!
Definitely my favorite album of 2020. So happy for the return of HUM!
Sorry to hear you've had it pretty rough. Unfortunately, I can relate. But this song makes me feel a lot better. You killed it. Great job!
Absolutely incredible tone, spot on everything! hope you do more stuff, love hearing people playing along with this fantastic record.
I would love to do more someday!
No reason. Just to say hello. Your version is perfect. Ending my night. Thank you again for this.

Watched this at work. Couldn't comment til now. Very cool, you got it good. Keep doing what your doing
Thanks so much, Marc!
Visiting again. Still perfect.
Thank you, friend! Hope you are well
Great job! I love this entire album. But this song .... Big Beautiful Giant Chorus.
SUBLIME!....you have the right gear....sound..spot on.
this is amazing! this song has been stuck in my head all day and I was dying to learn how to play it. thank you!
I love this, thanks for sharing!
Ha! Checking in. Hope you're doing well. Here for my monthly dose. My dog Kramer passed away 2 months ago. Getting over it, as we go. Thank you, again, for this version.
Haha, hi again, Marc. Sorry about your dog. RIP Kramer. Take care!
Well done...thanks for showing the fingerwork.
Great cover man. Hum is also my favorite band
Been obsessed with this song lately and this cover is really inspiring me to play guitar again. Cheers!
I love this. HUM inspired ME to play guitar again!
This is awesome. I’ve just now started listening to their new album and so far I love it. Really enjoyed this! :)
Thank you, enjoy the new album, it is so good
Great Job. Riff of the century right here. I believe Tim actually used a 7-string on this to get that 4th chord (Low C or B. depending) to drone out.
Dude you crushed the tone here. 10/10. Best song of 2020 by a long shot. Tab it out for a brother??
Thanks! A great song and a great album. I'll consider tabbing it if I get a chance! At least the parts I know.
Absolutely killed it. We'll done dude. Love it.
Thank you so much
Beautiful man! Way to honor the great HUM!!
Thanks, man❤️
Thanks a ton for posting this, it helped to learn how to play it....with out it, it wasn't happening :) !!
Awesome! Glad to hear it
Dude HUM is my favorite band too. Was so surprised and happy when they dropped it. You killed the cover. I beg you to share the tabs pls.
Johny I don’t have tabs, sorry!
@@josephmaniwang stop gatekeeping and make them

damn that's quick! sounds great!
Great job! I’d love to start a band with this vibe of music. Music out there these days sucks.
💯
My "stress reliever" song during the pandemic. :)
Mine too
If you had the time, I think making a video explaining your signal chain and settings and the "how to" play the song would get a lot of views.
beautiful
that tone.
Happy new year!!!
HNY dude
subbed.....amazing work man!
The queen died today. Stopped by for a visit.
Nice

Congrats on your retirement! By accident, huh? 😉 Did you purchase something by accident, too?
No, I didn't purchase anything. It's on my mind from time to time. My wife thinks she wants bongos. I will tell you she has no rhythm at all.
@@marclashley2062 😂
Damn this band is pretty good
Sounds great! Is this drop D?
Drop C I believe. D standard and then dropping the low D to C
I played in drop C, which seemed fingering-wise and historically for HUM the most logical. I keyed in on the low C in the 3rd phrase of the riff, as well as the open chords at the end of the song.
Great cover ! I'm literraly obsessed with the main riff 😅
@@jacobxsinger5067 same here, so beautiful. Possibly their best riff yet!

Just a visit. Happy daylight saving time.
"Happy" DST, haha. 😵💫😴
Great cover and tone! What tuning did you figure it out in??
@@DreusCovernicus Thank you! I tuned to drop C.
Do you have tabs for this? Ive been wanting to learn shapeshifter for a while now.
This rips 🤘🤘
What did you use to get this tone??
Thanks, just a Yamaha THR10X
Ah...your version is better than the original. I want to request "stars ". I know you would nail it. Cheers!
Hey man can you make a video on how to play this song? I’ve been trying to learn it for a while but can’t find a video that teaches you how to play it
Maybe someday, or I could just explain it to you directly
Hey dude. Love this song. Is this in drop d tuning?
Hi, Bill. I love it too. It is in drop C tuning, verified by the man himself, Tim Lash.
Wind up here is what I meant
Amazing cover. Curious, what pedals did use to get that tone? Thanks
Thank you so much. I used no pedals; I am playing straight into a Yamaha THR10X amp although there is slight chorus, reverb, and maybe delay (I can't remember now) over some high gain amp model.

Drop C
...and again

Which gear do you use?
Yamaha THR10X, Warmoth Strat I built myself with a Pegasus humbucker
