High hoods are my favorites. The just appear to be a tougher no nonsense locomotive. My favorites are SD7/9s and the SD40-2s. But, any high hood looks good to me.
The narrator sounds like Railfan Danny Harmon from Distant Signal. He's a good narrator and has good video and drone shots.of what he see's I always like the way the GP's sound when idling. Those Norfolk Southerns always sound like the engines a misfiring when pulling a load
Brought back great memories for me! During the late 70s and early eighties I saw nothing but Geeps on the old CN&L...SCL GP7s and GP9s and Southern Geeps . Took them for granted back then...wish they were still around!
@@charlesdowdie121 CN&L was A short line from Columbia SC to Laurens SC. Was 75 miles long and before being merged into the ACL had 5 GP7s and 2 cabs. Columbia, Newberry & Laurens. At the time I was A teenager and was A HUGE railfan...Took thousands of pics of the old SCL geeps..The CN&L division usually were assigned the old GP7s to run the 2 locals and 2 through freights daily.
Thats cool to see you guys catching a unit (1759) that used to belong to one of my favorite railroads, The New Hampshire Northcoast. 1759 had began its life as a GP9 for the Pennsylvania Railroad, then being owned by Conrail/Penn Central, then being sold from the NHN to the Adrian and Blissfield.
I spent about 20 years running SW1200's, and I never get tires of seeing EMD switchers working! I have always wanted to run an old 'high hood' GP, though. I think those are some great looking engines, and must be a hoot to operate. Thanks for a nice video reminder of railroad days.
I remember corn plants coming up between the rails at the mill where I grew up at a half a block away from the KCS main in Westville Oklahoma. didnt get but about 8 in before they got sprayed. they were very cool to rail fans. we, (alot of times, several kids and maybe an adult or 2. they were always somebody dad making sure that their kid didnt get to close to the trains,) would always wave, and they would wave back. I think they kida took it as exposure to the KCS. lol
Some states give railway police statewide jurisdiction even off of the railway. But I’d just assume the officer doesn’t get a lot of action so he just follows people anywhere near the line.
As a Michigander I’m not shocked at all that the first scene is a bunch of Killdeer freaking out. Gotta make a trip down there at some point, love seeing these old EMDs still putting in work! You gotta come up to mid Michigan and visit at some point, got great up close spots for LSRR and GLCRR
In my early teens (late 60's) my friend and I got to know the crew of a short line who'd let us ride in the GP9 engines while switching at a nearby factory.
As usual,,,Enjoyable "SHOWS" HAPPINESS IS WATCHING "YOUR VIDEOS WHILE SITTING AT THE BELLINGHAM FORD DEALERSHIP AS THEY READY MY VAN FOR THE NEXT "RAILFAN EVENT".......😊😅😮😢🎉😂❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

The ADBF 1759 is a former locomotive for the New Hampshire Northcoast railroad. When the A&B purchased it, they simply painted over the old operating name and put new numbers on it.
I know it wasn't recent but I would have turned in that engineer, you have the evidence and all the unit info (job # and such) that it wouldn't be hard to have found who he was. You guys should come to KS sometime. Some interesting UP and BNSF track you could check out.
In all honesty I've gotten to railroads being hostile to railfans especially me when I'm recording. They act like I'm going to intentionally but something one the track and derail a train when clearly I'm just mind my own business making other people happy with my videos.
@27:52 don't feel pooped on the E&LS MOW crew flip off a friend when ever they see him filming , because he keeps them on their toes filming all the bad spots in their track and the regular crew checks it out then notifies the dispatcher who has the gang investigate, I'm surmising the actions of the railroad crews but why else would the mow gang hate him so he's quite nice of person?
Schweet,That's a good sign when you have security/Bouncer's not allowing peeps to photo shoot trains that there is some scrupulous activity going on and he didn't want any evidence thru photography weather it was slack equipment repair or track maintenance,If authorities could not produce evidence then he could blame any accident's on vandalism or mother nature and deterioraterating circumstances.🤡🤡👆🚂🚃🚉🚊🚆🚇
I really hate when big companies come in to small communities, buy up the largest employer, then close the place a year later. These big conglomerates don't think about the devastation they cause to local economies when they lay off hundreds of employees and eliminate a major tax contributor.
No knock on the new guy, but without drayden narrating I feel like I'm watching public television...seemed more real and relatable before...still good video quality though!
That's remarkably unprofessional behavior from the rude gesturing NS conductor... But that aside, gotta love those old Geep 9's and that non-turbo, all supercharger noise!
Seeing the 1953 SW8/900 pull that long string of tanks was very impressive! Delay in Block is the gold standard for rail fanning videos!
Yes that switcher sure was working hard.
Pena que não consegui contar quantos vagões tinha pra pequena locomotiva tracionar
I am lucky enough to run a short hood GP9 for switching at a rock yard in Texas. Thank you for this video! These old engines still work for a living.
Awesome video! I love high hoods, switchers and short line railroads!
I really enjoy seeing High Hoods and End Cabs still in use.
High hoods are my favorites. The just appear to be a tougher no nonsense locomotive. My favorites are SD7/9s and the SD40-2s. But, any high hood looks good to me.
Then my episode of new locomotives is for you and the recent short episode of a derailment.
GP9s were always my favorite - because they look cool!
And same to you Norfolk Southern!

It’s not Danny Harmon, it’s someone else.
@@airspcfanI think he was just saying his cadence and way of speaking is similar to Danny.
Yeah kind of.
That wasn't DH, however Danny does a lot of voiceovers for different products and recently retired from Fox 13 in Tampa.
Beautiful old geeps. I remember seeing them when I was a kid. They sound so nice when running down the line.

A few years ago NHN 1751 was cut up it’s engine was used to fix one of Conway scenics F7

Great effort and this was excellent to watch!
Haven't been to Michigan yet,on the map was it the green Line?
Great video! Love all the commentary. 😉👍🏻

Great video. EMD high noses look great.
Love that horn. If people weren't on railroad property or right of way, what authority did that rail officer operate under?
Some states give railway police statewide jurisdiction even off of the railway. But I’d just assume the officer doesn’t get a lot of action so he just follows people anywhere near the line.

Nice Train Video. I have a question why is the 1759 painted differently than the other locomotives?
