Good job guys! A lot of work catching those fish, but its always worth it to come home with some. We made the trip there from Willow 3 times this year!
A lot of fun for sure and a great way to fill the freezer with some high quality organic protien! Got some good fishing starting in Willow now. Gonna float through there this weekend!
I went silver fishing two years ago on the Kenai River and the Kustatan. Initially went for sockeye but the run was weak so they cut it short. On my first cast, I caught a 55lb King, but I had to release it (Unfortunately!) and then on my second cast I caught a pretty sizeable sockeye (Again, bummer), BUT on the third cast I caught a 14lb silver. Great experience, all in all caught like 80 pounds of salmon.
I was there this year camped at the Russian. Great run this year had to quit fishing 3 days early. Could not check in any more fish boxes on the airplane. July had a fantastic run as well. I like fishing the July run in the lower river because they are a 5 year fish compared to the Russian river reds that are a 4 year old fish. An extra year out in the ocean makes them really fat. However that last 3 years the July run sucked that's why I planned a June fishing trip this year. I could not trust the July run .
You definitely came at the right time this year! Absolutely loaded with fish. Best in probably 20 years or more. Glad you had a good time and loaded up on fish to take home :)
9 in cooler and 9 on the stinger. 18 total per person in possession. So once you get 18 total you have to take some home or vacuum seal and freeze some before you can fish again.
The "fly fishing only" refers to the restrictions if the lure. "(1) with not more than one unweighted, single-hook fly with gap between point and shank of 3/8 inch or less; (2) Weights may only be used 18 inches or more ahead of the fly; (3) Beads not attached to the fly are not allowed." I like to use a 9wt fly rod with sinking line tied to 9 foot 20lbs fluorocarbon leader and split shot weights 2-4 feet above the fly. But a lot of people use spinning gear or bait casters.
@@andyfam5613 thanks for checking out the vid. Hope you enjoyed it. Have a how to fishing the Russian coming out soon that will go over my setup more in depth.
I Would love to fish with you sometime I’m a 16 year old who lives in Eagle River and I have been fishing all my life. During the summer my family and I camp in the Kenai area for three months straight and I fish every day. My favorite river to fish in down in the Kenai area is Quartz creek, a salmon sanctuary that feeds into Kenai lake. I have caught a 35” rainbow outta Quartz creek. So if your down in the Kenai hit me up and I would love to fish some!
We spend a lot of time there too during the summer time and are fishing every chance we get. Dang that's a giant trout you caught! You can show us how it is done!
You use fly rods that’s awesome. My wife and I will be there in July, can’t wait

Killer video! I've been here 3 times and fished those exact spots. So much fun! Subbed!
2019 was an amazing year. I was there.
Incredible!

Nice work! I love catching kings even if it is only catch a release.
Definitely miss combat fishing on the kenai/russian river. Great video
Thank you. It's a blast for sure! Especially when there is a lot of fish.
Baking fish in ankle deep water is the best idea
Wow i enjoy watching your fishing you catch a lot of fish
Nice fishing! Can’t wait til summer again
This is simply awesome
I am going this summer hope it’s just like this and better than last year
I hope it’s like that this year!!! The first 2 min of the vid that spot....!!! 👌🏽👌🏽🎣🎣🎣
Last year the fishing what off the hook ;) May not have as much competition this year so even a slow run can easily fill the freezer🤞🏻
Damn I'm gonna miss times like these, moving this summer for the army after a lifetime of living up here.
What weight fly rod? Awesome video

Nice technique I was wondering where you learned it? If these people knew what how to do it then they would have had success like you did.
How long to catch 18 fish?
We’re you using circle hook?
No circle hooks are illegal. Has to be a single-hook, artificial fly, with hook gap no larger than 3/8 inch.
18 in possession? Does that include in a cooler in your vehicle?
9 in cooler and 9 on the stinger. 18 total per person in possession. So once you get 18 total you have to take some home or vacuum seal and freeze some before you can fish again.
@@preyonadventure Thanks you!
At the frist spot in the video, you cought the fish on sight or you are just waiting, until a sockeye swims in your line ?
I was sight sight fishing that first one. Seen a group of them in that hole and caught that one.
I went the day before the 9 limit and I caught a stick...
Is it fly fishing only? What's your setup

I think your fishing with a Emery rod

Prostaffed netter in my book😎
I notice someone move into your spot when you went stringer your fish. Rude they are
Pretty common at the Russian river. If someone sees you catching fish they will come right to where you are.
You need a stronger rod so you can muscle those fish in. Too much playing in that big of a crowd. Not good etiquette.
Great job not doing the kenai switch. Landed them all perfectly in the mouth How to video for everyone
I don’t see this as fishing at all, just snagging and flossing.
Yes the technique is flossing. Most Red salmon dont bite lures so flossing is the preferred strategy to catch this specific type of salmon.
This isn't fishing, what a mess.
You're right this is catching.. you'd really freak out if ya knew there's spots you can actually snag
