Loving these vids, and exploring your property, it’s beautiful! We have about 8.5 acres as a base camp in south Mississippi and my “therapy” after work is to clear and improve our land.
Thanks for the support Richard! That sounds magical! There is nothing that makes me feel more alive then working hard on this property then jumping into that cold mountain water :)
The waterfalls are great! Would love to see them when the "rains" come.. Below that second waterfall, think about creating a "pool". That would be really great to have a place to swim / splash around in with the waterfall as a back-drop.. Regards from South Africa
Btw I grew up in Chattanooga in Lake Shore Estates which was off highway 58. Love your channel. Hope you sort out your issues with the state. Have a niece who is an architect in Nashville. If you want I can share your channel with her. She is extremely knowledgeable
Alternate title. “Why we don’t listen to TLC!” (For you Matt). There is a love you show that can not be put into words. You guys put the same hard work into your relationship that you do on the ranch. It may not always be easy but the rewards are worth it. As always stay safe and love ya! Oh and Matt I hope those trees are Poplars otherwise it would just be a Beech. Lol
😂😂😂 We try and put equal amounts of time into us as we do this land and the work we create but we have amazing people like you that support us and make us better people! TBH I think we may have been wrong on the trees... WHAT A BEECH 😏
I know it would be hard work but I would try excavating the bottom of the big water fall by the cave and make a pool to get in and collect water 💦 i use a bull bar to move heavy boulders from the RR
I’m tired of hearing bad news and I’m glad to find a good channel full of great inspiration about living a simpler lifestyle and I are enjoying your channel a lot I’ll probably be working my way through all of your videos in the next year. Thanks so much for sharing and you were down on my favorite new channel to watch Hudson kisses from grandma, Sandy, and Debbie.
i wanted to comment on this video because you guys appear to react and comment to the comments on this one, given that the newer video got so much attention you haven't been able to see or respond to all comments there. you asked: what can we do to make our home legal? i'm no lawyer or inspector, but what i would do is, i would remove the skids, and get a contractor to make a foundation using concrete piles and/or mounting straps, something that is commonly used for mobile homes. Also, installing utilities, whether off-grid OR extensions from county utilities, such as power and water, should get the home to be considered permanent. call out an inspector and don't mention anything about it being ordered from anywhere. once you have a clean inspection, it won't matter who sees the videos, your home will have already been deemed appropriate. Either that, or live in the home guilt-free for as long as you can until someone calls you in and an inspector comes out, assuming they know where you even live, and assuming they even cared enough to do so amongst their busy schedules. It could be literally YEARS before they ever come out there to enforce laws in a place they don't normally enforce them, even though you have already contacted them about it. By the time they come out there, you could easily build your own home, and then turn that structure into a workshed or whatever it was you wanted to use it for. Good luck!
Some of those trees you can take the bark in sheets and make baskets and all sort of groovy yhings. Just type in on UA-cam, Making things out of bark. You can put them together with vines and roots. Check out on Google what kinds of plants you can forage in your part of Tennessee. Mushrooms, edible plants, plants foe medicinal use and all the kinda odd berries, like blackberries, raspberries and blue Berries. You can do alot of canning of things. You can save money that way and just the fact, you found these things and you are using them. Very Groovy. I love you 2. You are awesome. So glad I found your channel. STAY GROOVY. I know you will. You 2 are the most awesome people I have seen in a VERY LONG TIME. I AM SERIOUS. Watching your videos give me peace and all around good feelings. Those are the only words I can use to describe you. The feelings I get when I watch your videos are beyond words. You 2 ROCK!!!
Y’all are literally living my dream. I’m fixin to move to Tennessee from Mississippi. I want to stay close to the Nashville area. My oldest son lives in Middleton and I wanna be close to him. I’m in love with the outdoors and Tennessee is so peaceful and beautiful. Im a electrician by trade and want to find a block of land with a small creek or waterfall like that or smaller to make micro hydro power for my homestead with also using solar panels. Im coming in less than a year I’m fixin to purchase a camper in the next few months and come do some research on land. Y’all are awesome keep at it!
We love the vision! Micro hydro power is such a cool route. We are looking into it a little as well. We appreciate the support it means so much. We are having such a fun time creating and exploring here on this land. See ya on the next one!
Y'all should pan for gold on your property! With all that bedrock I will bet that you will find gold. Just pan the gravel on both sides of the creek, see if you find any!
Hey Art! Just seeing this comment :) Thanks for becoming a Ranch hand here at the The Runway Ranch lol. Our dreamy waterfalls bring us so much joy now they are in winter mode and I might love them even more!
If you want to get the spring water to your living area and a gravity system won't work you have options. If the top of the bottom of the falls is level of a bit lower than your house you can use a hydraulic ram pump. You will have to shut it off when you enjoy the area. If it is lower and you have to pump higher than a ram can then you can use a water turbine to charge batteries and run an on demand water source. That would be quieter and you might not have to shut it off. Lots of ideas at @MartyT.
Great piece of property. Good for you. I wish you the best in all your adventures. I think that’s so awesome. Btw I love your sense of humor. Lol. Dry but funny. 😊
We actually didn't just go through 1 realtor we did all our investing and finding ourselves through different apps like zillow land. Com ect. Thanks for the love! Hope you find your dream property!

7:25 - Those are Beech trees. They make great “initial carving” trees. Yellow Poplars have a very unique “shovel” shaped leaf. They have very long fibers. Yellow Poplar was very “popular” in construction in the late 19th century but became suddenly more expensive when the mining found out the beams would give miners about a 30 minute warning before collapsing.
Me and my wife just moved to Virginia from over 40 years living in Oklahoma traveling accost the U.S for the last 4 years, we love to travel to new places as much as we can usually every other weekend would you consider renting a tent campground by your beautiful waterfall
