    Sure do wish there was a place to go to try on all these brands like this to see what works for my feet. Way too expensive to get it wrong.
    Now that I had time to watch the whole video it’s pretty clear that trying on the boot is critical, he decided against a number of these boots based on feel. Can’t get myself to spend this much money online as a gamble.

      For East Coasters, it is almost impossible to find a place to try on a lot of these back country boots. You can order them, try them on, send them back.....repeat, but that can be a real pain. Ordered a pair of Hanwag Tatra II in a wide. It took so long to get them that I ended up keeping them, and they are like walking in ski boots. Had them for a year plus and they are still so stiff!!!! I use them for work boots around the farm, but had to get different boots for hiking/hunting.

      @@poppamad979 I’m in Michigan and in the same boat. I went to an REI today actually. They only had a couple option. Nothing close enough of selection to weigh the options like this video. And most are geared for the local terrain and I need something for the Rockies out west. It’s a tough situation.

    I've had the 966s for awhile. Great boot. Can take a resole.
    I have the 215 Salathe on my feet as I type this. Love them as well. I wear them daily.
    When I cook them I can resole them as well.
    Zamberlan makes fantastic footwear for the outdoors if they fit your foot.

      Hi Rick, yeah I can do that...I have pair and have been wearing them on and off this spring for a couple months. I'll see if we can get a review together, either written or video here in the coming weeks. So far I like almost everything about them except the in-sole. I'm going to need to add an in-sole. After a long day and several miles they feel hard on the soles of my feet and I feel that fatigue. I'll report back here in the next few weeks.

    Boots or a very personal thing, if you can send them back after trying them on I would like to try all of them on as well, I had Zan Berlin in the past and they were a blister factory, I have run Lowa for 35 years! The only boot that was ready to go straight out of the box, “for me”

    I want to try some zamber mountain treks.. I do have the same issues. I have long, narrow feet, high arches. and nearly zero pronation from years of running on zero drop shoes. If I was wealthy enough I would also try some zameberlan Salathes gtx rr's for early hot season. My feet don't ever get 'hot' so I like a STIFF mountain boot year round.. I've tried the low cuts and just rather my high cut (8-10'') year round. I just prefer a high ankle support year round in the rocks.

    What are your thoughts on “approach boots”? They’re like a more lightweight, not as heavy lugged hiking boot that climbers use to hike into their climbing spots. I LOVE my Asolo Nucleon Mid GTX boots. Perfect for any early season hunt in my opinion. I still have my Crispi Lapponias for everything else, which are still super lightweight. Great video.

    • @trailkreitzer9163
      @trailkreitzer9163 2 роки тому +2

      Hi Michael, I've owned several pairs of approach shoes over the years. Although I do a lot of light hiking with them, I have more recently decided there isn't quite enough support for a backpack elk hunt in steep rocky country with a heavy pack. I recall a CO elk hunt I did a few years ago and the first five days I used a more traditional hunting boot and after we killed a bull and packed it out, I switched over to a light approach shoe for the last 4 days. I remember clearly as I was climbing up out of a steep canyon with a 45lb pack how torched my calves were. The approach shoe just didn't seem to have the support and stiffness to support my foot as I was climbing and over time I could definitely feel it. I think they are great for going fast and light. I think they make a great option for antelope or more moderate mule deer or elk terrain. Everyone is a little different, I think I'm just at a spot where I am finding I prefer the added support, ankle stability, and protection that a leather more traditional hunting boot offers. Thanks for watching and the feedback!

      Good info, I'd be interested in hearing what failed specifically. I have had Salewa Rapace that had chunks of the sole chip out but the uppers wore really well. I've also heard on occasion that the synthetic side portions of their boots that utilize that material has worn through quite quickly in rocky scree type terrain. Let us know, I would like to hear about what the issues were. I will say that the Crow was pretty comfortable right out of the box.

    I bought the Hanwag Alverstone II GTX a couple months ago during the 2x points back sale. After watching your video on the Hanwag lineup and messaging Brady.
    When I first received them and opened the box 📦 I said that there’s no way this is a 14 “Wide” they look so skinny. I put them on and initially they felt tight especially in the area on either side of the balls of my feet 👣 but it didn’t take long for them to feel comfortable walking around. I have hiked with them and have used them on a few turkey 🦃 hunts where I am not worried about crossing a deep creek. They do rub on my pinky toes at times though. I do wear Cabela’s and Bass Pro/Redhead hunting socks 🧦 with them too. I haven’t tried Darn Tough or others yet. I also don’t lace them all the way up, maybe one eyelet from the top.
    I hope that I can draw the Wyoming mule deer 🦌 and pronghorn tags 🏷 I have wanted to go on for a few years now. I will definitely put them to the test even more then.
    I wish that the Gear shop had a shoe 👞 size filter. I wear a 14 wide and don’t want to check every boot 🥾 to see if there’s a 14 wide available. Hopefully that can be added soon.
    Thanks for sharing your boot 🥾 buying process with us. Most of us can’t try on all the boots 🥾 that we might be interested in but this is still helpful.

    Need a ultralight, 1 or 2 flex rating, 4E wide size, near-zero drop boot recommendation. Normally wear Altra high tops as my GoTo hunting boot but they don't last long (1 season max). The weakest Crispi flex was still too much causing major foot pain. Currently have a couple pairs of Salomon Speed Forces as my back up boots but looking for something a bit more durable. Would prefer to buy 2 pairs - one "regular" and one goretex-type. Thanks.

    • @trailkreitzer9163
      @trailkreitzer9163 2 роки тому +6

      I've owned several pairs of Crispi boots over the years and I agree they make a nice boot. I know a lot of people that like them. For me, there are a couple issues with their boots, one is that they are a little sloppy through the forefoot. There's a smidge more volume than what works for me. The other issue is that I don't feel like I get the wear and tear out of a Crispi for what you pay for them, specifically in regards to the sole. They have a softer rubber, which is great for grip on a wet slick surface but they wear quick for me. The Nevada for example is $409 and I just don't feel I get that value out of that sole. In comparison, a Hanwag Alaska GTX which is boot I have worn a lot is $380 and I'll get a couple years at least out of the sole. Purchasing a boot is certainly subjective, but those are my experiences and the reason I am not buying a Crispi.

      I disagree with you on crispi.. sorry I’m a scarpa guy for life … I’ve worn about every make of boot (including crispi’s) as a wildlife fire fighter and scarpas are the only boot I can’t destroy in a 6-8 month season.. but I don’t seasonally hunt in my boots … I live in them

      @@RicardoSanchez-xy5kp dunno what their reasons are but I own Zambs, Scarpas and Crispis and live and hunt in a steep part of CO. I will take the Scarpas and Zambs for my elk and deer hunting. The Crispis are kinda more of a bird boot here as they have a sloppy fit. They are insanely comfy to walk around with but actually too wide/loose and I have a wide forefoot. For technical terrain you will find yourself requiring a technical fitting boot in order not to get injured. Not getting hurt in technical terrain is a huge consideration under heavy load - especially when you hunt alone like I do. Crispi for not so crazy terrain bird hunting and hiking with the dog, Scarpa Zodiac and Zamb Wasatch for anything serious. Hope that helps you out.
