20:43 Nintendo R&D1 (one). It was one of nintendo's first dev teams, responsible for original donkey kong, metroid and the mario land series, among other things. Also headed by the late Gunpei Yokoi, the designer of the gameboy and inventor of the d-pad.
I’ll chime in to add, for those who didn’t know, that Yokoi died relatively young at 56. He and an associate were inspecting the damage done to the associate’s vehicle after accidentally rear-ending a truck, when he was struck by a passing car. I was familiar with Yokoi having noticed his name in the closing credits of Super Metroid, my favorite game at the time. He was either forced out of or resigned from Nintendo, I don’t recall which, in the wake of the failure of the Virtual Boy; that bummed me out because it was one bad project after so much success and innovation, but I chalk it up to Japanese culture and their view on failure and shame, and I won’t judge. He did go on to do his own thing, and was behind the Wonderswan which, while not the huge success that the Game Boy was, is still thought of fondly by those who really got into video games, as it did punch above its weight for what it was, like his other, more well known gadget. I think Yokoi deserves every bit of admiration that Shigeru Miyamoto gets, having had just as much a hand in what made Nintendo what it became (its absolutely cutthroat activities as a business notwithstanding, mind).
@@rootbeer_666 @rootbeer_666 "its absolutely cutthroat activities as a business" Ah yes. The "cutthroat activities" of paying it's employees good wages, it's ceo taking pay cuts to ensure it can pay it's employees and... [checks notes] defending itself from pirates. Oooo~ so bad, so evil. How dare they People need to stop buying into console war memes.
Tags: thanks for make, the naming gimmick, came when I realised, after editing the first video, that the game had zero text beyond the title screen and menu, I had a more normal title, but it didn't feel right, one of the upgrades, had an arrow or something, so I went with that instead, and kept going, for the rest of the series, I knew I'd have enough arrows, I have so many more left
There were some serious Wuxia vibes coming from this, a game that looks, at first glance and only in still, rather simplistic, but the presentation is something much greater. That last battle kinda made me think of Hero, the 2004 film starring Jet Li, Tony Leung, and Maggie Cheung.
I finished this game this morning, and didnt get the chance to watch this vid until just now (930pm). As a new Dad myself, the ending freaking HURTS...even just imagining putting myself into the shoes of the MC is just painful to think about. Thanks for introducing me to this game, and thanks to Brandon for making it.
The tone of the ending is fairly in keeping with samurai tales. Endings where things are settled by the sword are usually bittersweet. And... yeah. Yeah. Thanks for make, dude.
Oh wow... Even without the sad news, this final episode hit me so hard. The absolutely stunning visuals, the sorrowful events, the way Shin's sprite had his head lowered during the final battle, the stare-down mechanic, the music... That all hit hard. I was already crying. Then finding out that Brandon isn't with us anymore... Jeez, it's so unfair... 😢 Absolutely beautiful game, from beginning to end, where each major foe conveyed personality through their combat, & it said so much without a single word. Well-made... & well played, raocow. I enjoyed your enjoyment throughout this series. And I'm very glad that, at least, Brandon got to finish & release his work of art to the world. ❤🩹
I didn’t quite get to that point, but as I’ve been all up in my feelings over my wife over the last few months, it really is resonating with me and I did choke up.
(0:38) Looks like it's dual boss time here. (0:50) I just noticed that your attacks are destroying the surrounding lamps. (0:59) Their attacks can destroy them too. (1:24) Victory! (1:40) Ooh, the last "badge". (2:39) So, you can dodge farther, I guess. (3:13) Oh, it's the protagonist's wife and kid, along with the kidnapper. (3:31) Alright, it's boss time! (4:12) Ow, that homing "sun" dealt 7 damage. (4:48) Oof, first death today. (5:28) Yep, we're playing tennis with Ganondorf here. :P (5:50) Victory! Only took one hit this time. (6:20) Yep, it's those images we saw flicker on the screen as you got the Master Sword. (6:40) And suddenly, you fall into outer space. :P (7:12) Oh, no! What is that thing doing to the wife?! AAAHHH!!! (7:33) Alright, it's final boss time! (8:03) Frozen and slain. Ouch. (8:26) That means red circle of pain. (8:33) They're just standing there... menacingly! :P (10:57) Whoa, that metal-on-metal noise. (12:20) Start of the winning run. (14:27) Victory! And that's game! (14:34) Stab. It's like this is NieR: Automata all over again. (14:44) Ohhh, nooo... That's just... too cruel, what that evil thing caused the hero to do... (17:08) Oh... (21:41) Welp, time for a mood whiplash as the game shows you a bunch of unlocks! :P
By the way, hitting this boss with the super finishes an entire phase. Best time to hit with it in the final phase is when she starts a dash slash. Instead of trying to get close for the counterattack, let her get far away so the move comes out as she's dashing at you. You go high enough to avoid the slash and nail her with the super. Also it's impossible not to cry at the end of this game.
i played this game when you announced it for LP awhile back. i love the presentation and the replayability (although i havent felt inclined to do any replays as of yet). i didnt know about the creator passing away, but im glad i own the game
Screw it, I'm gonna say it: 🖐 *ABSOLUTE CINEMA* 🖐 This game is extremely good, like the gameplay and the aesthetics, are incredibly good! The story's ending made me cry too, that's ... rare. Well done. *Watcher's rating:* ✨ *5/5* ✨ Thank you "🔀random pick🔀" from wheel S2E6, this was such an excellent pick (unlike plok from the votes lol). Btw, there's a wiki of this game but, ... it's completely vandalized with random internet articles from the world???? Like wtf! The next game, ... oh no (for unusual reasons).
Look at all those shadowy corpse on the boss screen, neat. But yeah, Samurai drama where you have to kill your beloved (because some evil entity possessed her or forced you to fight and kill each other). Then, mood whiplash at the end.
Well that is doubly a sad ending :[ Really good seeming game though kind of wish I played it myself first but it is technically a similar experience in one manner or another... Been wondering what happened to the dev but can't find any specific info...it at least seems like he knew it was coming as he left a will, which is both sadder but not as awful if it was unexpected I suppose... Still, really sucks, hope he's glad he got to make something so wonderful at least beforehand...

man. i didn't expect the tags to be emotional too

Oh gosh, I don't think I'd heard you cry before. The ending was already moving, but hearing you choke-up hit me even harder.
An unbelievably tragic tale. And the added knowledge of the dev makes it sting more.

Wow. I'm actually crying. This is a masterpiece.
Man, yeah, I cried as well. What a magnificent game. What a piece of art to be such a minimalistic game, yet carrying so much emotion.

Okay, so that final boss sequence absolutely reminded me of the final episodes of _Samurai Jack._
'Twas a neat LP. ✌️
That was fantastic, thank you for playing the game

It's too bad raocow never tried to land the super move on any bosses. This one or otherwise.
Thanks for playing and sharing this game with us and for the developer
This is usually the kind of ending I'd fast-forward through at 2X speed; but I just didn't have the heart to this time out of respect.
this game super impressed me. loved this way more than i expected to
great game

thank you for play.
I really enjoyed what I saw~
This game didn't do all that much for me overall but that was a pretty sick final boss, ngl. The setting was super cool; very OoT Dark Link haha
the girl dies in the end?? is that the prologue for cat planet where you play that girl?
I'm gonna say it: I think Ato is actually a fox, not a cat. It's much more thematically cohesive with the kitsune as the villain.
Get that kitten!
Wow.
