  • April 2000: He was Australia's most notorious cop.
A real-life Dirty Harry who finally crossed the line and finished in jail. Roger Rogerson was the teak-hard NSW detective who instilled fear in Sydney's underworld with his rough-house policing ways.
That, he tells Jeff McMullen, was absolutely deliberate. "You must create fear. Crims, be they tough crims, hard crims, they feared certain police officers and I was one of them".
In this chilling interview, Rogerson talks about the killing of drug dealer Warren Lanfranchi, the shooting of fellow detective Mick Drury and other episodes that made his name infamous throughout Australia.

An update, if anyone is interested, in May 2014 Rogerson, along with Glen McNamara (another bent cop) was charged with the murder of alleged drug dealer Jamie Gao. In January 2015, they pleaded not guilty. After the first trial was aborted because of legal technicalities a new trial kicked off in February 2016, and in June 2016 Rogerson and McNamara were found guilty of Gao's murder. Both were sentenced to life imprisonment and currently Rogerson, aged 80 and reportedly in fragile health, is serving his time in Sydney’s Long Bay jail.

When you lie often enough, you start believing your own bullshit. When asked questions, he always answers the same way, like it's from a script. He goes into so much detail and answers forever without taking a breath. When asked on an incident that doesn't suit him, he doesn't recall. He has all the answers otherwise and the traits of a very good liar

All cops are trained to be very manipulative with their good cop/bad cop routine. They learn to become psychopath criminals. They learn to physically intimidate people while smiling, by getting loud, entering ones personal space and chaging the subject by lying about how mamy kids they have...thats how one cop did me in my own car after i said cops are the biggest criminals on the streets.

Just finished watching Blue Murder. Highly recommended. I knew good old Roger Rogerson was a bit crooked but actually now I'm thinking he's a vicious cold-blooded psychopath. Not for one second do I believe his nice guy facade in this interview. I mean this was in 2000 and 14 years later at the age of 73 he sets up a young naive Asian drug-dealer & murders him not because the kid got in his way, but purely to rip him off. Now that's cold-hearted. So he was directly responsible for 3 murders that we know of, and indirectly responsible for 7 others. Not to mention the dozens of other inexplicable disappearances on his watch that police linked him to but couldn't gather enough evidence. He was basically a cop serial killer. Chilling. And I haven't even touched on his extortion, bribery, drug dealing, intimidation & standover shit.

    • @465marko

Not that it makes it any better, but there was a theory that because Gao was an informant with the Crime Commission, that may have had to do with why it happened. It may not have *just* been opportunistic greed (well...tbf, it's still opportunistic greed, really). But the Asians might have wanted him dead and somehow gotten Mcnamara and Rogerson to kill him.
There's no proof, except that afak, he most probably *was* an informant. And there were Chinese guys who flew back to Hong Kong a few days after, they were in one of the cars, I think.
      So, it seems plausible, maybe.
Dunno why they wouldn't just do it themselves though.
But yeah, completely agree - to say he was a dirty cop is so far short of the mark it's laughable. He was the worst kind of criminal and he happened to have a badge as well.

He was also linked to the cia and drug smuggling from thailand and burma, he was linked to many many more killings than the mention and could very well be considered a serial killer. The chinese student was killed in the way he hkilled many others, he also would make dodgy safes at that metal fabrication business.. Well after leaving the police he employed criminals to do burglaries. Hed case the targets for them with the safes he sold.
He was very much feared by criminals in sydney as a cold blooded killer and a sociopath

Of course the Dodger knows what happened to Flannery. He knows full well what happened to Huckstepp as well. Lets be clear though, Flannery was a maniacal menace and Lanfranchi was apparently not a whole lot more sedate than him. These weren't nice people that were put off. Rogerson did society a favour in respect to those two, even if only for his own benefit.

Point #1 Buy a dictionary and learn the difference between Dam and Damn.
Clear proof that even you make errors -- Errors and poor decisions of a different
type, but errors non the less.
And learn to write 'you; and not u
Clearly, you are mentally lazy and your brain is not working at its best performance level - Everything in this world has 'duality' -- We are all capable of evil -- which is merely LIVE written in reverse --
Nothing in this world is perfect --
There have been many executioners in this world, many are paid by Governments and Kings -- and they think nothing of it --
Explain what form of Killer is a hero?
Soldiers fro example are Paid Killers -- You would not know where the word
'Soldier' comes from or what it actually means - -- I know. I served in the military
for 30 years serving three countries.
And remember that between 1703 and 1967 The French fed a great number of heads
into the Guillotine- Once it was created that machine had a huge appetite.
The French Guillotine, and was known as 'The Maiden"
It saddens me a great deal that Roger went down the track that he did, as I have known him and his entire family since 1969 --- This narrative telling the adventures of a somewhat unlikely hero has affected many people - more than anyone can realize.
Could such an account happen again in the future --- It certainly could.
It is what it is -- We cannot turn back time - each and every one of us, have to accept fate, be it good or bad.

George Balos told me that Neddy Smith had a _mobile phone and a laptop computer_ in prison, something that no-one else in Long Bay jail had. Just because you have a badge doesnt give anyone the right to murder , He even took hit many times to kill another detective name Michael Drury who was a decent cop. He also killed a solicitor that was working for the crime commission . He killed Sally anne . Warren Lanfranchie . Remember frenchy was a young man . Then the asian guy he killed was 18. All his life rogerson set people up took slings . verballed innocent people . loaded evidence , falsified evidence, planted evidence on people . Killed many many more that no one knows about. Robbed drug dealers not just that robbed police stations that were minding drugs. Bashed prisoners many times . the bloke is a psychopath .. I got arrested once and i was innocent and he offered me a deal pay him 30 thousand and my problems will go away . I said NO , I ended up beating the charges, Another time when i was a little boy 12 years old i got arrested for being in school grounds for trespassing on a weekend , He hung me out the window of bankstown police station two stories high and threatened to drop me if i didnt admit i trespassed . I still wouldnt make a statement cause i done nothing wrong so he slapped me across the ear and busted my ear drum and my whole life ive been very deaf. the bloke is evil . On page 316 of Duncan McNabs' second book on Rogerson ("From decorated policeman to convicted criminal - the inside story of Roger Rogerson") he recounts what McNamara's barrister told the court (while the jury was not present). McNamara, through his barrister, claims that Rogerson told him about all of the shootings he was involved in, including having to shoot at Drury himself because Flannery fronted up on the night out of his head on coke and could not hold a gun straight or steady.

The woman who gave him a second chance was his last victim. I saw Rogerson walk through MRRC once first one straight through with his limp. He struck me as just some old guy. Not presence no respect. His true character open for everyone to see. Nobody won no one wins ever really and as for all those good cops the ones who wanted to change the world ? They always get the blowback from the bad ones. ...

THAT IS!!! AND TOOK ROGERS DRUGS !!! WHEN ROGER IS LIEING HE,S AS COOL AS A CUCUMBER , ILL GIVE HIM THAT😮😮😮
IF YOU HAD DRUGS TO SELL THEN THAT GIVES YOU MONEY AND POWER AND ROGER COULDNT LIVE WITHOUT EITHER ONE UNFORTUNATELY!!!

Yes your correct I didn’t think anyone would notice that. The first few seconds of piano were “life on mars” and the last couple of seconds were “I did it my way”.
Both have hidden meaning , I did it my way even more so.
