Imagine releasing a game of this quality for free. GGG knows how to market and relies on the love from the player base to support them. This is the model other companies should try and learn from
GGG were using assets from second game to add monsters/bosses/enviroments to PoE 1 leagues, for 2 years i could tell "this mob is from poe 2!" Really cool approach
For many years my love for videogaming was met with four studios. - "Grinding Gear Games" with "Path of Exile 1" (and now PoE2) - "Larian Studio" with "Baldur's Gate 3" (and Divinity) - "Klei Entertainment" with "Don't Starve Together" (and Don't Starve) - "Owlcat Games" with "Warhammer 40k - Rogue Trader" (and Pathfinder) All mentioned developers are indie, but they make incredible good games.
Might be a chance that Larian might be AAA eventually, but that's probably for the best. We need a high-budget studio to actually use their money right for once, and I think BG3 shows that Larian can do just that.
@@BigBoiUltra3741 I mean, they were independent and a lot of funding came from Swen himself. They are probably the indie studio closest to any AAA one.
Sorry, but I can't agree with Baldur's Gate 3. The game's quality drops off a cliff from act 2 to 3. The devs straight up admit that act 3 isn't finished and never will be finished. Larian intentionally put all the worst parts of their game in the finale they knew most people wouldn't play (but would still sing the game's praises). I can't forgive them for that and I am extremely wary of the next Divinity game, especially since one of their top executives is a big fan of Dragon Age The Failguard.
I really doubt it, and im not even going to be mad if it happens (ok i will just a little, but because i wanna play it so bad), but if GGG for some reason can deliver without any major problems it´s gonna be a miracle, the thing is, i trust them so much that i believe it is something they might pull off, but it´s gonna be insane so if it has problems i will understand.
Agree. GGG has been really good at server stability for PoE the last 2 years of launches (lag in Europe aside), but I'd be surprised if we can play consistently the first day. I fully expect the launch to bring 800k+ players day 1 and it will likely be rough.
@@jordi6153seems like the Poe veterans are here hi guys. The scary part is once you get in past the queue time… the fear of getting dced and putting back in the queue eventually they get the servers right each league but Jesus I just wana play so bad!!
I was able to play it at Gamescom 2024 in couch coop! It was very similar (if not the same version) to the start they showed in the reveal. It felt so different, prepare to be surprised! We died a shit ton and it strangely reminded me to a Soulslike game as well. And the game is significantly easier to understand than the first one!
When you mentioned imagining future games while playing Champions of Norrath I was right there with you. Between that and Diablo 2 my love for arpg’s was solidified. PoE 2 is an absolute love letter to those of us who imagined this day would come. I’m so excited!
Love your enthusiasm. :) December 6th pleeeeeeease come! EDIT: Champions of Norrath mentioned. Speaking of ARPG genre improvements....man, what I would give to have a free camera like Champions of Norrath in a modern ARPG. It would feel so good with WASD (V Rising was close). Champions of Norrath was so special, ahead of its time IMO.
Bro, you are the refreshing air that videogames news needed for a long time now. I'm really glad that i found you, when you started playing Warframe, and i try to watch every video where you talk about these topics. As always, great job.
I used to play Baldurs Gate and Champions of Norrath ARPGs with couch coop on the Playstation/Xbox with my brother when we were kids. Can't wait to play POE2 with my bro years later!
When I saw a person get "cross-sectioned" by a laser in one of the videos I knew GGG is still full of people having fun making a game. That's so metal. I also loved that Jonathan referenced Half Life when talking about not taking control of the camera for cutscenes. Great games like System Shock and BioShock were known for that and they both have stories that stick in my mind.
I cannot wait, this game looks absolutely incredible. This is going to be the longest week of my life. I absolutely love this genre of video games. GGG has not disappointed me yet and I dont see that happening anytime soon.
Nothing wrong with Dark Alliance and Champions of Norrath being your first isometric ARPGs. Those games are still great to this day. If only Sony cared enough to put out a modernized remaster/remake of Champions of Norrath. Or a new one.
The problem with CoN is that the IP isn't solely owned by Sony so they can't do whatever they want with it. Snowblind went defunct so it's kinda lost. I was just talking with my brother about how we wish there was a remaster or remake or CoN 3...
Not sure how the EA launch will land but, given the track record of the devs on PoE1, it’s going to be fantastic by full launch and for many years to come
2:34 - 2:55 I feel this. I've even called it then O.U.I.(Ocular Unfocus Index). From initial impressions to the time i find my eyes glazing over, that's my measure of how well a game holds my interest.
The most important reason I’ll buy this game is the trust I have in the developers. They’ve earned a reputation for delivering on their promises. I didn’t buy Diablo, but I will buy Path of Exile 2 because, based on their track record, I believe in them. Trust in developers should be the number one thing every gamer considers this decade for AAA dev. Too many companies lie and fail to deliver, to the point that even Steam is updating its guidelines. I never preorder games-not even Path of Exile 2. I’ll wait for Steam reviews first. This is the way.
You should listen to the exilecon 2023 talks that ggg posted. There’s one on music and sound design and it really shows how dedicated they are to the sound design you praised in the video. They are awesome!!
First Cyberpunk 2077 (granted, it took quite some time with this one, but Phantom Liberty was when it all came together), then BG 3, now PoE 2 - my most fav genres were really blessed as of lately. I am living in good times.
I'm just trying to level myself in preparation. The amount of hype for this game is similar to the amount of hype there was for D4 before its launch, and we know how that launch went. I've lost count of how many times I've gotten hyped up for a live service game just to be disappointed in some way after its launch, whether it be login delays, performance issues, half-delivered content, etc. I hope PoE2 will be the outlier.
The problem with D4 launch is it's basically untested and the game gradually changed from how it was promised, to feel like D2. This game was already tested by numerous streamers and actual PoE1 players and the feedback was good.
The difference is that Diablo 4 was made by a tired studio that is a shell of its former self wearing the skin of the legends that came before them. PoE2 is being made by a studio that has stuck to one game for over a decade now and has at no point in those 12 years stopped raising the bar. Trusting GGG is like trusting FromSoftware. They're one of the few on the TINY list of developers that "never miss".
Guarantee poe2 will deliver end game promise the boss fights of Poe was incredible for me I played for a long time. Some of the deaths were hard but I learned oss mechanics and tried to get better u til I beat the boss.. poe2 took it to the next level. So I’m hyped but only because I know GGG delivers. This isn’t a Diablo game this will be the poe2 I imagined. But blown out from what I ever thought. The crazy part they made it so much easier to learn for non pro build players while also keeping high skill ceiling for late game.
I felt so robbed by Diablo 4, paying the "deluxe" edition, I didn't end up using the free battle pass included. Uninstalled the game & the batllenet launcher. No more Blizzard for me. Hyped for PoE 2 !
Ur gonna lose your mind once you make it past the tutorial and reach maps. Then decide which end game content you wanna focus on… your hooked it’s over you will keep coming back
14:48 PoE2 is bringing me back to when I was 12 playing D2 and thinking of all the cool ways things could interact. Took over 20 years but I am so F'ing ready.
Don't underestimate sound design. Great sound design is one of the things that made Battlefield "Battlefield" and so immersive. Animes like "Frieren" and "Violet Evergarden" would be lesser if it wasn't for the masterpieces that Evan Call created for them. Even what some might think a throw-away show "As a Reincarnated Aristocrat, I'll Use My Appraisal Skill to Rise in the World" is elevated by good use of seemingly perfect BGM.
I cannot stress it more, the 30$ price tag is not just a ticket for early access, you get full 300 worth of point to spend in MTX shop. It just simply you buy 300 point and get early access ticket as bonus. I am confident PoE 2 will keep a fair monetization practices, as they already shown in past 10 years in PoE 1 and I am a 10 year old PoE player.
I am actually one of the few people who always look for deep universe, lore and great story even in ARPGs. You can imagine that I was not satisfied often in this regard when it comes to this genre. But holy hell am I glad PoE2 will deliver.
Appreciate you talking about sound design. These games are often so repetitive that I just mute them unless bossing where I need to hear an audio notification.
God I hate to be that guy buy I keep on hearing it and I can't hold it in. They get hanged. It's an exception in English when you hang someone, they are hanged, not hung. :D
This! All of this! Everything you said resonates with me because I think the same thing. Watching a full run you can see the quality in everything, even on the floor! It's incredible everything they've done
Im so hyped to actually be immersed into the campaign again, and just taking my time going through it for the most part. Especially the first time through
In all honesty for me the deal breaker were the WASD controls. I'm pretty used to the isometric camera and mouse movement control, moreover I'm pretty good at it, however PoE 1 controls always felt really awkward and clunky for me, hence why I did not really enjoy playing the game mechanically. And since I don't enjoy that I can't really force myself to get into the other systems. So I'm really glad they went for the WASD thing and that I get to play the game in a much more convenient manner. I'm likely going to purchase the supporter pack from the get go.
Just FYI deal breaker means like deal off meaning made you not want to play for example. I think what you was trying to say is "what sealed the deal" that means what was the thing that locked you into the "deal" and wanting to play.
absolutely. In the last decade a lot of companies lost their sharpnes. They are afraid of getting a shitstorm so they produce a product that is bland and soulless without edges and character. It is mostly like a HR aprooved product that no one can be offendet of. but on the other hand no one realy gets exitet of aswell. its a sad world we live in. but maybe we reach the peak of this behaviour.
by biggest critique about poe 2 is that all content creators allready played it and feed us bits and pieces over 2 weeks while we all have to wait. i dont wanna see spoilers but... brain says click the damn video
The biggest stuff gonna be the endgame, and the content creators didnt delve in that territory, im 100% sure the new endgame atlas being infinite and explorable gonna hide some really cool stuff there that we dont know anything about.
It's worth it because they give you also coins worth for 30 on top. I would save them for stash sale and buy all necessary stashes to tackle endgame after endgame each league
@@m.h.4907 No, it is worth because the game is worth it, even if it was 100 it would be worth it for anyone who appreciates the genre, no other game in my whole 39 years on this planet gave me more hours of enjoyment than PoE, and i have no reason to believe PoE 2 is gonna be any different, the bonus coins it´s just whatever to be honest.
Hey dude. Been watching your livestreams and you usually nail it on the critical topics on games and identify some great finds! Looking forward to PoE2
So they finally made Diablo. Diablo 1 was actually a demo game that impressed so much at an expo that they wanted to publish it. Then Diablo 2 was the watered down, its gotta be more kid friendly, finished product. Dont get me wrong, Diablo 2 was epic in its own right but it was very much the pg version of Diablo. The original Diablo was so visceral. It was terrifying the first time I played it. Gore every where, the enemies were demonic, the lack of vision actually caused fear. The story behind this hell portal was tragic and compelling. You were excited about drops, not because drops are cool, but because that drop meant your character might actually live through whatever hell spawn is behind the next door. It was so epic and compelling it was worth dragging your entire GIANT pc system from your house to your friends on your bike so you could lan it up. It's taken 30 years but it sounds like they finally made the finished product that the original Diablo promised. Even if it falls short of my expectations I want to thank GGG. Just the excitement about the release has been more fun than I've had in the gaming world for years.
When I heard of that Diablo project that was a Souls-like that Blizzard canceled, I was really sad. I thought it was a reboot of Diablo 1. Thank goodness GGG updated the controls to feel like an isometric Souls(the warrior with a shield at least). And yes, I miss the original Diablo 1 atmosphere as well. I hope PoE2 can bring that in spades.
@brandonrickner1321 yes. It got a great deal of flak at its release for being to kiddie and cartoonie compared to diablo. And it is. Like I said diablo2 is a great game. I've got at least a masters degree worth of time in it. But compared to diablo it is very soft.
The thing that made me fall in love with PoE was that there are sooo many different power fantasys to create/play. It is just fun to tinker with skills and find new combienations you have not seen before. Also this is what I am looking forward to in PoE 2
No. You dont preorder. Never. Even if the game looks insanely good. You just dont. If you want to play day 1 buy it the minute it releases. Dont make them think they got your money already they dont need to finish their product. Im gonna play it on the 6th too but dont preorder.
@@Rooachie I generally agree with that point but it's not a AAA company that has lost all trust with their fans already, I think in this case I'm going to show my support. I wanna try it and $30 is not much to lose if I don't like it... which I will. 🤣
@@Rooachie 99% of the time, yes, nowadays you should not preorder. However, this is GGG, my friend. They don't deserve to be put in the same box as other companies IMHO, unless they do what you are saying, which they never did in 14 years of Path of Exile (and I don't believe they will, since that would crush the whole trust of the community they have built for over more than a decade). And to play on the 6th, you must pay $30 (or have spent $480 previously on PoE1). That's why I believe the guy said "preordered."
This has a similar long forgotten feeling: when I played Diablo for the very first time, there was nothing like it back then when it released. That feeling is coming back. I am glad I played POE1 as much as I did, fun exploring my own type of builds and exploring the environments which were vast and the various gem and passives were huge. I liked "Grim Dawn", I think some of the "feel" of POE2 has been nudged a bit down the "right" path from it and what was explored in POE1. Legendary Drops, I agree with many things you say and particularly enjoy seeing the glee in what you have experienced in POE2. GGG has me oddly in their debt to see them spark this joy in you, I am very afraid that I will agree with you and experience the same joy. I guess I best get my affairs in order and get the Christmas shopping done before Dec 6th.

Meh, you'll find some morons in every community so don't overrate your encounter. The only correct build is the one you enjoy. Your encounter reminds me of the time I played Warhammer online as a hybrid dps/healer. I had tons of people yell at me for playing wrong, since they couldn't wrap their heads around the concept of hybrids. Always was fun to top the contribution charts just to still get raged on by people who considered running straight at the enemy line with their glasscannon chars as strategy. Naturally they got deleted and yapped even harder, their yapping still amuses me to this day.

GGG were using assets from second game to add monsters/bosses/enviroments to PoE 1 leagues, for 2 years i could tell "this mob is from poe 2!" Really cool approach
For many years my love for videogaming was met with four studios.
- "Grinding Gear Games" with "Path of Exile 1" (and now PoE2)
- "Larian Studio" with "Baldur's Gate 3" (and Divinity)
- "Klei Entertainment" with "Don't Starve Together" (and Don't Starve)
- "Owlcat Games" with "Warhammer 40k - Rogue Trader" (and Pathfinder)
All mentioned developers are indie, but they make incredible good games.
Don’t starve together is so good
Sorry, but I can't agree with Baldur's Gate 3.
@@beasthaven1571 I would argue one of the top games, period, but not many ppl know about it.

I have avoided allowing myself to get hyped for games for many years. I’m just gonna let it happen here, feels good. Early Christmas.
For only 30.00 I wouldn't miss this early access for anything. Just hope the servers can handle what's coming.
It will be a miracle if anyone gets to play December 6th, no matter how prepared GGG is, it's gonna be an avalanche. Don't hold your breath.

I'm glad I have Monk and Witch to keep me busy while I wait for Templar, Huntress, and Shadow.

Victor Vran is fun. It has WASD, a camera you can rotate, and even a jump button.
CoN greatest game of the PS2 era for sure
Now we just need a Warcraft 3 successor

I used to play Baldurs Gate and Champions of Norrath ARPGs with couch coop on the Playstation/Xbox with my brother when we were kids. Can't wait to play POE2 with my bro years later!
One of the greatest games of my childhood
When I saw a person get "cross-sectioned" by a laser in one of the videos I knew GGG is still full of people having fun making a game. That's so metal.
I also loved that Jonathan referenced Half Life when talking about not taking control of the camera for cutscenes. Great games like System Shock and BioShock were known for that and they both have stories that stick in my mind.
I think they word you're looking for is bisected.
Gaming news headlines when PoE 2 releases: *_"Path of Exile 2 shouldn't be used to set a new standard for ARPGs. Here's 5 reason why:"_*
1. We're too lazy
2. Takes too much effort
3. We like money more
4. We just can't
5. Fuck you, that's why
I cannot wait, this game looks absolutely incredible. This is going to be the longest week of my life. I absolutely love this genre of video games. GGG has not disappointed me yet and I dont see that happening anytime soon.
that interview you did with Jonathan Rogers made me buy early access, what a legend, we need more people like him
Nothing wrong with Dark Alliance and Champions of Norrath being your first isometric ARPGs. Those games are still great to this day. If only Sony cared enough to put out a modernized remaster/remake of Champions of Norrath. Or a new one.
Still have my original copies of Champions of Norrath and Champions: Return to Arms on PS2. What a great series.
The problem with CoN is that the IP isn't solely owned by Sony so they can't do whatever they want with it. Snowblind went defunct so it's kinda lost. I was just talking with my brother about how we wish there was a remaster or remake or CoN 3...
Ohh I'm so yelly....
And I totally get the sound design point
I still get chills thinking about parachuting in during the bad company 2 demo
As a massive sound design enjoyer I am excited! Thank you for the pre-review!
I really am hopeful about this. Been let down by too many games recently.

Not sure how the EA launch will land but, given the track record of the devs on PoE1, it’s going to be fantastic by full launch and for many years to come

@@GlockProductionz both FAR better than fuckin Diablow-like
@ don’t agree… but I am pretty sure we agree both are far better than Diablow-Like
The most important reason I’ll buy this game is the trust I have in the developers.
Champions of Norrath mentionned, today is a good day
That and Baldurs Gate Dark Alliance were so fucking fun to play with the boys. Loot goblin vibes
My favorite PS2 game. We had to ban crit multishot ranger because it was too oppressive to play with 😅
First Cyberpunk 2077 (granted, it took quite some time with this one, but Phantom Liberty was when it all came together), then BG 3, now PoE 2 - my most fav genres were really blessed as of lately.
The crazy part they made it so much easier to learn for non pro build players while also keeping high skill ceiling for late game.
man you are giving me goosebumps! only 7 more days my dudes, only 7 days...
The F2P life is going great with Warframe and now this
World of Wraeclast hype
I felt so robbed by Diablo 4, paying the "deluxe" edition, I didn't end up using the free battle pass included. Uninstalled the game & the batllenet launcher. No more Blizzard for me. Hyped for PoE 2 !
Ur gonna lose your mind once you make it past the tutorial and reach maps. Then decide which end game content you wanna focus on… your hooked it’s over you will keep coming back
You know there will be queue times and waiting 1-2 hours to enter.

Dark and gritty is what I like. Just like the music I listen to. I'm proud to live just up the road from the studio.

Agree 100% with you. Just be careful "deal breaker" means you don't like it.
Just FYI deal breaker means like deal off meaning made you not want to play for example. I think what you was trying to say is "what sealed the deal" that means what was the thing that locked you into the "deal" and wanting to play.
You got me on the first half 😂
I man... the sound design.
Last time I played it at Gamescom, the sits they gave you were also a subwoofer.
THEM THUNDERS!
Bro! Just wanna say ; Keep up your great work! Love your video's
by biggest critique about poe 2 is that all content creators allready played it and feed us bits and pieces over 2 weeks while we all have to wait. i dont wanna see spoilers but... brain says click the damn video
The biggest stuff gonna be the endgame, and the content creators didnt delve in that territory, im 100% sure the new endgame atlas being infinite and explorable gonna hide some really cool stuff there that we dont know anything about.
Yeah dude! Champions of norrath was amazing back in the day. We played a lot of gauntlet legends before that too.

Diablo 2. Watered down? Kid friendly? Look, I'm a D4bad Andy - but this is a shit take.
@brandonrickner1321 yes. It got a great deal of flak at its release for being to kiddie and cartoonie compared to diablo. And it is. Like I said diablo2 is a great game. I've got at least a masters degree worth of time in it. But compared to diablo it is very soft.
This seriously makes me so happy dude for real. Grinding gear games deserves this they f****** deserve this win
The thing that made me fall in love with PoE was that there are sooo many different power fantasys to create/play. It is just fun to tinker with skills and find new combienations you have not seen before. Also this is what I am looking forward to in PoE 2

Pre-ordering a free-to-play game is certainly a decision lol
Still. Pre-ordering...hell I may pre-order for someone else...this isn't a purchase, it's a statement O_O
