Teddy Boys were a youth culture "tribe" in the Britain of the 1950s who had a distinctive hairstyle known as a "DA" (short for "Duck's Arse"). They were a bit like American Greasers, but with better dress-sense.
And you couldn't expect to "get" it in a month of Sundays. Even a majority of younger people in the UK wouldn't get it, so let yourself off the hook!
@@revbenf6870 No, your right only us older ones who would know that.
Teddy Boys, from the Edwardian style jackets they wore. With shoe lace ties, drain pipe trousers and suede shoes with thick crepe soles. "The 'classic' Teddy boy style was denoted above all by the long, drape jacket redolent of the American zoot-suit. It was usually worn in dark shades, sometimes with pocket flaps and velvet trim, while trousers were narrow and worn fairly high on the waist". Hair was heavily "greased" so it stuck out at the back in a DA.

Also none as a Tony Curtis haircut. After the American actor.
The final joke was that he was conned by the coal man too because he was taking his greyhound out to train him to hunt ducks and came out with a Yorkshire terrier (full grown not a puppy) instead.
Teddy boys had a haircut called DA, for duck’s arse.
DA has already been explained - and "water off a ducks back" (i.e. has no real impact/effect on someone) was the play on words when he substituted "duck" for "Argentinain racing pigeon " . Argentinian racing pigeons are of course known for their red bills rather than yellow.
Ronnie Braker used to submit sketches for the show under an assumed name and they would get used and it was very late they found out it was him. He liked the racier sense of humour. Compulsive watching.
This sketch was written by John Sullivan (only fools and horses)
@@darthdmc It's weird but I could just imagine Del and Rodney in this sketch.
Teddy boys (and girls) were the teenagers of the 1950s that followed Rock n Roll music, they had a certain hair style, D A which was a Quiff at the front and a D A (ducks arse) at the back. Think Elvis Presley, James Dean etc, for American comparisons. Teddy boys generally wore suits with Drapes (a type of jacket) usually brightly coloured, Blue or Yellow or Red or various other colours. And they wore suede shoes, hence the song blue suede shoes.
My husband knew Ronny Corbet really well and every time he was staying in Edinburgh at his house in Gullane he would meet Ronny for ice cream with the grandchildren in North Berwick. One of the nicest people you would ever meet.
Teddy Boys were a group of men/women that followed the "50's Rock and Roll" lifestyle and dressed a certain way for example a young Elvis Presley and Buddy Holly
An old late friend of mine was a Ted in the 50s, until he was involved in a fight that had drawn knives. There and then, he ditched the whole culture - except for the music - thinking "I ain't gettin' involved in all that!"

Watch the 2 Ronnie's Mastermind sketch.its only a short one but one of the best .
Love the old style kitchen with the boiler over the sink , as usual a clever routine on an old theme , it did look like the duck actually quacked on cue . The two Ronnies rarely disappoint .
My grandparents had an electric wall mounted water otter over the sink called a Creda Corvette
An Ascot over the bath and a Sadia electric over the kitchen sink . Brings back a few memories .
@@stephenhowell5611 there were many brands but collectively i think they were called hot water geysers
@@theotherside8258 Yes, It was just like a kettle but wall mounted and took 5 litres I think, sounded like it was harmonising with itself when boiling ;)
It's duck (female) Mallard that quack, the one in the cage was a drake (male) and they don't quack.
The Teddy boys haircut was a d .a . Or ducks arse.
At 2:02 he calls Ronnie Corbett a 'berk' which sounds pretty mild insult, but is actually very insulting as it derives from Cockney rhyming slang, 'Berkeley Hunt', slang for 'c**t'. Susie Dent , the word expert on Countdown said so.
"You're illogical to feathers" ha ha ha
The Fonz and Danny Devito had teddyBoy haircuts
When combed back behind the ears it looks like a ducks arse feathers. Thats why they call a teddyboys haircut a D. A
I have seen all of these before but I still laugh at them, wonderful humour. Love it. 🤣❤
Teddy Boys wore drape jackets with velvet collars and tight fitting drainpipe trousers. Their shoes were suede with very thick crepe shoes. We have all heard of Elvis`s Blue Swede Shoes. They were called Teddy Boys because their clothing was based on Edwardian style clothing. Teddy being a nickname for Edward. Unfortunately some of the gangs were antisocial and carried cutthroat razors. Slashing cinema seats was a favourite past time as well as one another. Elvis had a Teddy Boy hair cut which had a protruding peak at the front called an Elephants Trunk. One more observation, thy wore very narrow ties.
Legends 😊
You will just have to watch over again, and catch up with the jokes. Many of them are particular to the UK, for example the "teddy boys haircut" - this style was from the 1950's, so you are too young to know this! Don't worry about not getting all the jokes first time round, they throw them out so fast.....
Always a thumb from me 👍
John Lennon was a Teddy Boy in the late 1950s. Their hairstyle was similar to that of the followers of Rockabilly in the USA.
Teddyboy's haircut. Back in the late 1950's Teddyboys wore their hair in a style which at the back was cut and combed to a shape commonly known as the DA ----- duck's ass!
Bert and Charlie (The Two Ronnies) sketch on “Maily Dotion”
Connor...........its british humour, mostly only funny to us, stop beating yourself up, youre doing OK
Two Ronnies: Sports Commentary is another Ronnie B masterclass
There is a phrase. Water off a ducks back
Like 'water off a ducks back' Conner.
There have always been conmen and fraudsters out there; you just need to be savvy.
The haircut reference is to what used to be known as a "Duck's Arse".
Mc Jib,. you run some Jack Benny or Bob Newhart stuff & we here in the UK in parts would be just as misunderstanding.
Think of Travolta in grease and you've got it cheers
Teddy boy, similar to post war Italian dress and style in the US.
Yes just like the Fonz, (well nearly.)
Teddy boy is a fashion from the 50s, like punk and heavy metal and disco and mods
Teddy boy UK band SHOWWADDYWADDY singing I WONDER WHY. this is what Teddy boys where😊
More the 1950s youth culture.
Teddy boys were from the 50s and they had there hair cut at the back it was called the ducks arse
@@dlk1dlk1my mistake. I only knew anything about them when showaddywaddy appeared on uk top of the pops and mum called them Teddy boys
Yes, Showaddywaddy is correct but different time.@@robinford4037
boring i know...but the MALLARD duck...is the fastest bird, in level flight in the world....
I looked that up and read the swift and grey headed albatross were faster?
yeah...i wasnt far off though eh...lol...certainly faster than a racing pigeon anyway..lol@@MantisEnergy
D.A I believe stands for ducks arse (Ass) and a Teddy Boy was a style in the rock and roll 50's, the hairstyle they wore looked like a D.A...
you do not need to apologize that particular sketch was full of British sarcasm and you will always come across stuff like that we are the same with american humor some of it just goes way over our heads
Memories of Saturday night TV ...still make me laugh after all these years
👍💜👍💜💜
A Teddy boy's hair cut is a DA stands for a ducks arse
