Charlie Berens downloads the new iOpeS update for iPhone, giving him a Midwest version of the virtual assistant Siri, named Sheryl. Sheryl is able to understand the Midwest dialect better and helps Charlie pick out church clothes, nurse a hangover, and Facetime his Grandma Sue to help him cook his Sitka Salmon.
My mom's name is Cheryl and she sounds exactly like this. You didn't even need to hire a voice actor. You could have just recorded a day of my life.

Haha I actually buy kale. I add it to salad,and sandwiches,there’s a soup it’s in too but I don’t remember. My son & his dad won’t really eat any veggies or fruit so I didn’t ever make them when I cook for us as a family but it was ruining my mental & physical health so I just use them for myself for other meals & snacks.

Once listened to a guy from some island way up north of Scotland and a guy with a DEEP Minnesotan accent from somewhere up by the Canadian border have a conversation. Both spoke English, I speak English. I Didn't understand 4 words. They kinda bonded without knowing what the other one was really saying and "communicated" telepathically. Very interesting how far you can contort the English language.

That reminds me of an experience by my mom's best friend. She was in Japan and someone from the South had learned Japanese but their deep Southern accent stayed... 😅 She said it way very interesting to listen to.

My family is from northern Arkansas and nobody executes (choose your own definition of 'execute'...lol) the English language like a hillbilly! I've always said that if the queen (King now, I suppose) ever visited my family in Arkansas, they'd understand her but she would be baffled by "we'ens gon hed on down o'yonder t' d' wa-mar.' lol

In case you see this, OP... I'm just wondering if you're still living in the same area? I'm originally from the Chicago 'burbs, but I've lived: 1) near the MO border (for roughly 5 years); 2) in MI (for 3.5 years); back in IL (for 21 years--in a Western, then a Northwestern, Chicago 'burb); 4) and, now, I'm in WI, near the MN border. Life's funny like that. 🤪

Answer: Hozabouts I just tell you which way is north since it's cloudy and let you gain a sense of accomplishment from finding it fer yourself with a map.
No offense to no one but I've been working as in driving truck in Indiana for 12 yrs and not yet ever heard a waitress there sound like that. Up north and Canada they do but not in Indiana.
I was raised in NYC. I left the concrete jungle and moved to Wisconsin in 2017. The Midwestern culture has really won me over, accent and all ❤️

I left Wisconsin 23 years ago and you can still hear my accent when I say certain words or if I'm yelling.
I'm also still ridiculously friendly and helpful to strangers searching for something in the grocery store or anyone needing a jump start (my only talent in regards to car trouble.)
Except this guy is from a distinct subsection of the Midwest.

My moms name is Cheryl and she was born and raised in Minnesota. We both got a chuckle out of this .
I think many were introduced to the Midwestern dialect ( dialect is a regional speaker, accent is a foreign born human speaking the native language) via the movie Fargo.
The movie "Fargo" introduced many of people--including us other Midwesterners--to (at least one) North Dakotan dialect, but it's foreign to me (born/ raised in IL, lived in MI, now in WI); nowhere I've lived has anyone sounded like they do in the movie. Even most of the Canadians I know have a dialect that sounds much like mine, though a few of them have a dialect that's more similar to the one portrayed in the film.
I'm a Russian living up over in Montana for a bit. Thank you for helping me annoy the bajesus out a ma husband. I've been imitating your accent for a coupla weeks now and look its -20 outside, i gotta entertain myself somehow, guy. luv ya channel.

I grew up in Wisconsin and lived all over the US after the age of 16 teen. I've taken so much grief from folks for being overly friendly. I've not been back to the Midwest for years and only get a taste of it when I meet other people from the Midwest here in So Cal. It's funny because we find one another, we're the only ones willing to start a conversation with a stranger. I often wonder in this world of young folk who have such anxiety with social interaction if the Midwest kids escaped that?
I don't understand people who get triggered by friendly strangers. It doesn't cost anything to say hi and ask someone how they're doing.

I'm the only person my family including cousins and aunts and uncles that was born in Pennsylvania so I completely understand. All my relatives live in Illinois
Hell, doesn't leave in generations. Seattle here but a lot of Seattle (including myself) have the accent because the Scandinavians who didn't settle in the upper Midwest went to Seattle
Born and raised in Chicago and moved to Arkansas eight years ago. This made me homesick and happy all at once. The Friday in lent reference was especially welcome!

Oddly, I say "Ope" and I've never been there. People often ask me why I chose to lose my accent. I had no clue what they were talking about. I'm from Utah and Arizona.
Went on a cruise and we were talking to a couple from Canada and they said we were from either Michigan or Wisconsin. They were right, Michigan. 😂

When I first got an Iphone with Siri about seven years ago, I had the same problem. Coming from, and living in, Rapid River, MI (Escanaba Michigan’s finest suburb), I found that Siri and I had problems communicating. I had to switch Siri into German (my second language) to communicate effectively. Oh Gad!

I moved to NY over a decade ago. I miss Kwik Trip.
I moved to Georgia and frequently think of Kwik trip everytime i get gas. They have no real chains down here and they are bare bones when it comes to selection.
Love in Central Wisconsin. The Kwik Trip comment was the only one that actually applied to me. But oh man, I do love kwik trip.
Best monopoly in the area
I live a few miles outside a medium -sized metro area, and the KwikTrip is the only thing nearby that resembles a grocery store.
I live in Ashwaubenon and it is amazing how many times you need to repeat it to someone on the phone, or having to pronounce it for someone who sees it spelled out but not said. Even worse is Oconomowoc.
Menomonie wasn't so bad, but has it's issues as well. Like, telling folks not from here to be careful to spell it right or they'll get the MI one, or Menomonie Falls or somethin. Funny thing is that my mom is from Milwaukee & by the time she was an adult ( and moved here as a teacher ) her parents had moved out to the family lake home on Lake 5 ( Colgate, WI ) - nearest real town is ( or was ) Menomonie Falls.
Lots of native names near me in Ohio, too, that flubber people up. :D Pataskala, Geauga, Cuyahoga, Tuscarawas, etc.

I grew up near Oconomowoc so that one isn't even a problem. Can even spell it without looking it up.
People have trouble with Ocono? It's just like it sounds, with all O's - I could see people getting confused about the vowels following the n or m, because we say them as a schwa, but not much else.

I love it that it calls family and friends for answers. That's exactly what we used to have to do all the time! It kept us connected with a strong network. I think this is a great app feature which should be developed.
