A pen light fits perfectly in the elastic in the middle. I keep a Streamlight Stylus in my 5.11 6.6 Med Pouch. Fits like a glove (length and diameter). Doesn't really take up extra space and it comes in handy all too often
Great job as usual! Just bought a Condor tear away med pouch. The thought being that i could leave the mounting system attatched to my get home bag and be able to toss the pouch in my hiking backpack. We shall see if my theory proves out.
I have a condor med pouch...its been attached to my chest rig for some time, not used, but some of the stitching on the molle on the back is already unraveling. The pouch has been removed a couple times...but other than that there's no reason for the stitching to be failing already. So I would say stick to 5.11 or better (Original S.O.E. or Tactical Tailor).
Great video! I had been wondering about this pouch for some time. I look forward to seeing your video on the content of the kit. I hope that you explain the use of the items that you have. I would like to see a multi-part series on first aid.
Thanks SnareMan, you saved the day again. I was actually considering buying this or similar size pouch. I was going to MOLLE it onto a shotgun and rifle scabbard ( the kind with loops all-round) to hold a 55 round bandoleer that I would attach to the side MOLLE of my ruck to carry my Mossberg 500 .12 gauge in case of SHTF. Now I know that I would have to get A.LI.C.E. clips or something to use the center loops of the pouch instead of the sides, and that it's mesh pockets would preclude that particular 5.11 pouch for the bandoleer anyway. It's puzzling as to why 5.11 doesn't tell you this info, but you solved it for me anyway. Thank you. Oh, instead of throwing it into your bag and then wondering "hey, what's in this pouch" when you find it, you can do what I do to organize my ruck and maximize space. I make extensive use of various size compression sacks, MOLLE a pair of pouches together, and put 1 or more sets of pouches into each compression sack after labeling each pouch and sack with masking tape and Sharpie based on contents. I label extra rounds the same way after I make bags with mylar ( the kind on rolls for kitchen vacuum sealers ), making them the size I want for holding the amounts and kinds of rounds I want to put in the pouches, vacuum sealing them, and labeling them as to caliber, number and type of rounds each pouch, and putting them in a handy organizational pocket in the ruck compartments. I try and make enough mylar pockets with enough extra rounds to reload each mag/speed loader for each weapon I'm carrying. Just thought I'd give you that idea that works great for me since you help me. Have a good one :)
I do a good bit of horse back trail riding. I used to carry two first aid kits. One for humans and one for horses. My BFO was that only the one for the horses ever got used. The human kits never have anything in them suitable for anything worse than a hangnail. A much more effective kit can be put together that will cover you in case you have a problem on the trail and while it will be bigger than this little bandaid pouch it wont be too big to carry. I got the idea from seeing the very good compact kit carried by the corpsmen in Iraq.
D. Alex Oprea Here you go... ua-cam.com/video/I48wcTlvhl0/v-deo.html And my hiking IFAK: www.thewanderingsnare.com/hikingcamping-ifak-individual-first-aid-kit/
Most of the complaints are due to the guy not understanding WTF a "IFAK" is actually to be used for, this is meant to be used for armed forces, it's meant to have clips that doesn't come off easily and will make sure the kit is where you need it, when you need it, which is.. You've guessed it clipped/molle'd unto a war belt..
"The guy" does understand "WTF" the are used for and what an IFAK is, but different people have different uses for them. I also wonder what % of their sales are to military vs civilian.
It's an IFAK pouch which in general focuses alot on use for the military, as the "IFAK" is a mandatory and a thing any and every soldier walks around with. Simply stating that most complaints for this is due to it being focused to be used for armed forces.
As a purely unrelated side question that I have no idea the answer to, do you know of any military people that are or what % are issued actual 5.11 stuff as opposed to some more generalized government issued type brand?
Not really my own regiment, uses a way, one with quick deployment so it's simply to rip open and start doing first aid, as the IFAK use is usually to stop wounds that will become fatal if not treated immediatly, 5.11 I believe simply supply to people who are allowed to make use of the IFAK's they make and set them on their kit, it's about preference and how you wanna develop muscle memory for each and every thing you wear on your rig. Same goes for Quickdraw's, Holsters, Sheathes- It's all about personal preference.
I've seen them. But, I'm talking about serious backpacking. I want to see your input on different types of big backpacks, like Kelty, or military rug sacks
ryan ward I'm just not starting to get into hiking/trekkiing so I don't have a ton of knowledge there yet. I'm going to the grand canyon this weekend and have an Everest Base Camp trek booked for next spring. I don't have any 'big' bags yet though. I think the Kelty Dillion in my GHB video is the largest I have at 32 liters.
Well, it's a question of consistency :) If you put something upfront it's only natural to expected that you'll follow your initial pitch (with all this critical "which angle of the foto was on their site" etc.), but you've somewhat digressed that inevitably led some viewers to feel the irony and comment :) It's not bad, and it's not an attack on you or your video, it's just ironic.
I have this one too, the only reason that I bought it is that it was on sale for 16$. True quality is great, but if I had to buy it for regular price, for my needs (airsoft mostly), I prefer to buy three other pouches :) And I also like the cross, true, it could be red...
Awesome. Just wanted people to know it's there now. I use both maxpedition and 5.11 gear. Both are great quality. In the current e-commerce market, lack of media is a killer.
I apologize for this off topic post but do you do other videos under the name John Green? I watch Crash Course Vids and you voice is remarkably similar.
Actually it is a great designed but for people who need if for actual tactical purposes. A tac vest or belt not to stick in a bag. It is perfect for what it is made for. If a regular person wants a med pouch to stick in their backpack this is not for you.
Video starts out with him complaining about 5.11 not showing the inside of the pouch on their website. Then you have to wait another three and a half minutes, about half of the video, before he shows you the inside of the bag. Kinda ironic, dont you think?
You don't have to buy the red. I'd just like them to have it as an option for those putting the pouch inside their bag and who aren't going into combat with it.
SnareMan I agree on having the cross in red. I would place this inside my range bag. Plus if you med kit and bag are the same color. That would make it very easy to identify that it's a med kit.

Excellent review of the med pouch. 👍
Thanks Jeff!

I looked at that one as well.

Viking tactics not vickers right

This is more designed for front use via battle belts, or vests id imagine. Great for regular use!
I've seen all ur videos through half a year! So much time, I know!
Thanks for watching and commenting! :-)
I don't find that their snaps stay snapped very well either.
Putting your first aid kit on the bottom of your pack. Sure. That's a great idea. I imagine there a reason why those tac ties are on there.
The middle webbing on the inside is not meant for a pen it is supposed to be for morphine pen/syringe/chest decompression needle

Yea, its all a matter of how much you want to be able to handle vs how much you are willing to carry.
I was hoping to see a link with the contents of this pack.

Can you do a review on backpacks
I have several reviews on backpacks
I've seen them. But, I'm talking about serious backpacking. I want to see your input on different types of big backpacks, like Kelty, or military rug sacks
ryan ward I'm just not starting to get into hiking/trekkiing so I don't have a ton of knowledge there yet. Compains about 5.11 not giving inside view. Spends 3 and a half minutes before opening and showing inside.
Sorry to delay your day a few minutes. There are some features to go over on the outside before you get to the inside.
It added suspense for the end of the vid. Everyone loves a cliffhanger :-)
I have this one too, the only reason that I bought it is that it was on sale for 16$.
True quality is great, but if I had to buy it for regular price, for my needs (airsoft mostly), I prefer to buy three other pouches :)

Thats a great price for it!
Hmm, I just verified, there are pictures of the interior and videos. Maybe it changed since you did your review. Good bag,.
+Michael Runyan Its good that they fixed it. A year and a half ago they definitely weren't there though .
Awesome. Just wanted people to know it's there now. I use both maxpedition and 5.11 gear. Both are great quality. In the current e-commerce market, lack of media is a killer.
+Michael Runyan Yup. That's why I was complaining so much in the vid. A picture of just the outside of the pouch was pretty worthless.
+SnareMan I think I had the same problem with the 10x6 pouch
1:54 I wouldn't want the red cross on the bag because the opposing force would easily see the contrast in colours. I prefer uniformity.
My point was the red cross option for for civilians where there is no opposing force.
Nice GMT!
Thanks! :-)
I apologize for this off topic post but do you do other videos under the name John Green?
I watch Crash Course Vids and you voice is remarkably similar.
Nope, not me, but I'll have to go check him out.
im with u on the zippers complaint.. easier to use the standard 6x6
great vid!
Thanks!
I personally don't want any red, I don't like bulls eyes on my back
Not really a good design by 5.11. Thanks for the review.
You're welcome! Thanks for watching. And I agree.

I'm sorry you had to sacrifice 3.5 minutes of your life to get the info the company won't give you.
Me too.
Thanks, now I know what NOT to buy. =)
I do like the Maxpedition pouch better.
Disappointing for 5.11
5.11 is junk. Way to overpriced for the quality you get. They have sold out.
Don't like this desing at all for an IFAK.
desing?
