There’s a great book about Huey pilots called chicken hawk, I read it while stationed in Germany with the USAF…harrowing, visceral, but exhilarating…

@@HistoryWarfareNow123 You people (Yanks), always do, yet, you had your asses handed to you on a silver platter. In fact, when have you ever won a war? Don't tell me WW2 the Soviets and the UK won that crap, not you.

@@HistoryWarfareNow123 The facts are, the United States has one of the very worst, and easily, the most cowardly military record of any country on earth. Yet, reading you clowns, we could be forgiven for thinking you're awesome at fighting wars! LOL. (only that would be 100% wrong).
The United States was founded in 1776 (even that's only a lie, a propaganda claim), and she's been at war for 228 of her 248 calendar years of her existence. (In other words, there are only 20 calendar years, in which the U.S. has not waged any wars).
The Wars waged were never against any militarily capable country, but only countries that we're once considered the Third World. Any resistance from those countries, nearly always saw the USA lose!
Pick any year since 1776, and there's a 91% chance the USA was involved in a war during that calendar year, and a 73% chance they lost it. No U.S. president qualifies as a peacetime president. All U.S. presidents are technically “war presidents.”
The U.S.A. has never gone for a decade without war. The only time the U.S. went five years without a war (1937-42) was during the isolationist period of the Great Depression.
Since the 2nd World War, the USA has started 206 armed conflicts, resulting with around 60-70 million (mostly civilian casualties). And only ever based on false premises/lies. (And failed in most).
This is more than 2 conflicts, started based on nothing more than lies and propaganda, per year. Just terrible! And they want to take on Russia? LOL...
Go on then! Stop talking about it, and do it, It's easy! Britain did it! LOL. You don't even need to believe me! As you could just ask the Mongols, and their Golden Hoard, how well they got on against Russia? You could just ask the Ottoman Empire, how well they got on? Or, you could even ask Napoleon, just how well he faired?? Failing that, you could also ask Hitler, how well he did? LOL.
The USA has never met a fully militarily capable country in war, the USA struggles against many non-military capable countries all the time. They've lost to non-military capable countries, and even just militia groups, all throughout their terrible history of fighting wars, they're absolutely useless at fighting wars! The worst at it! Russia is the biggest test of them all.

@@HistoryWarfareNow123 The hilarious propaganda we read from all of you about WW2, must be some of the biggest lies ever taught to any society on earth. You comically try to take credit for things you never did, and the rubbish we read you all trying to claim is laughable. The most common question asked by history students at Uni, is why don't the Americans know anything about their own history, or the history of the world.

I was a door gunner in the 68th assault helicopter company. I ha twin m60s on my sit with a free gunner next to me. On the other side was my crew chief with his m60. Next to him we had a 50caliber machine gun. That we traded a pt boat crew. A LARGE amount OF C Rations which they loved. we also had a large bladder of jp4 fuel which we injected into the hot exhaust which made a dense cloud of smoke which would hide the debarking soldiers. We went by the name Smokey1

How many people out there felt like me just watching this. Petrified and shaking. Their action waa beyond words mind bending stuff. One of the most extraordinary stories iv ever heard. And Larry' not being able to hover at 9 hrs with a solo pass at 10 hrs. Then surviving and becoming an ace. in extreme conditions. Within 12 months. Is there any story anywhere in the world that has ever shown such incompetence become such mastery?? If that's not an rxample of perseverance and determination i don't know what is. Absolutely amazing demonstration of human capacity. Extraordinary humans

Sounds like Medal of Honor stuff to me. Literally, it's Medal of Honor stuff. My roommate for a some time, he's passed away, now, but he served in the 1st Battalion, 9th US Marines from 1968 to 1970. Just surviving was enough. Spike Lee made it into a movie about an all black US Marine unit in Vietnam. My buddy was a white man. He was all excited when his first taste of HBO and Cinemax was a movie about his unit in Vietnam. Tried getting me back to his house to watch it with him, but I was busy at the neighborhood tavern. He called me back five, ten, fifteen minutes into the movie and said don't bother. The film makers had turned it into what they wanted it to be. Told him I never saw it, but that is what it looked to be. Then I asked him over the phone if, maybe, he were the white sheep of the family? If, maybe, white guys were a minority in his Marine unit? He said, no, it was about fifty fifty. Told him I didn't have the heart to tell him, plus I didn't know never seeing the film.
We were poor white Americans in the Midwest. I'm not ashamed to say that the first thing I did for him when he let me stay with him was shimmy up the utility pole in front of his house and remove the two traps on his cable television line so he could get what rich men had. Not ashamed at all. You gotta look out for one another, all of us. To hell with the law, to hell with the businessmen, to hell with the leadership, the bible thumpers, one and all.
That war you could say I missed, having been too young to serve. But that wouldn't be accurate. Because somebody brought the Vietnam War to Omaha and to me in 1972. You wouldn't believe me if I told you. Somebody should ask them why? Why did they brainwash Omaha's children to become Mongol warriors as they did in Vietnam and Asia since the time of Genghis Kahn. I had a roommate in rehab that was a door gunner on a Huey. I'm gonna mention his name and that of my late buddy as well. My roommate on Last Breath Farm as I call it, was shot down twice in a Huey in Vietnam. He ended up in Vietnam after standing before a judge in Nebraska and being given a choice. The judge said he will either sentence him to a few years in state prison, or he can join the US Army and will be sent to Vietnam to fight the war. He told me he didn't think prison would do much for him, so he chose Vietnam. A large man, he was in rehab for one of the best reasons I ever heard of . He was there to save his marriage because he loved his wife. It was an honor to know him.
We all live in Hell. Some of us are angels. I let him down. I had to go back. The war never ends for me. Veterans are all quitters. I finally got it right, though. The guy who dug through the garbage cans for aluminum cans his whole life was a hero in WWII. Battle of Okinowa, US Army Airborn Unit. Neighbors I grew up with who lived across the street, the dad was in another US Army Airbornn unit in WWII and was taken prisoner by the Nazis for one day at the Battle of the Bulge. As he held his hands up to surrender, he was shot in each hand. Spent the rest of his life fathering two boys and drinking his memories away.
Came out of the jungle at the Missouri River where we used to have fun with guns, motorcycles, drinking, smoking dope, etc. Was just getting dark. Three transients had a fire going under the I-80 bridge. As we passed and said hello, they offered us hot dogs if we would share our beer with them. And we agreed. Discovered one of them to be more than a little stressed out. Told him I could see it in his eyes. Eventually, we shared that we each had PTSD. And he told me what he did in Vietnam. Was a crewman aboard a Jolly Green Giant. I don't think he realized I knew what that was. Told him I did. They flew a giant helicopter into North Veitnam to rescue pilots who were just shot down. I only say all this to make one aware of something. You'll find a genuine war hero in places where you find losers. You will.
And I would like to give a shout out to Mr. Tom Etherton of small town Nebraska Can't even recall the town. And to the daughter of Mr. Gilbert "John" Styskal, 1.st Battalion, 9th US Marines, Vietnam. You know them as the Walking Dead. Not really the unit name I would want to be warring under, but WTF. Your dad was a great man. He may not seem to be with his flaws, but he was. To all who served in Vietnam. And even the little children of Omaha who were forced to become child soldiers without ever leaving the states. And had it all covered up and their story never told.

I guess I should also say that 1, 9, USMC had seven Medal of Honor recipients during the years my late buddy served. I believe they were all awarded posthumously but one. The Company Commander, a Captain Fox, awarded himself the highest military honor in the United States. And I would be remiss if I did not mention Omaha's favorite son, one of them, anyway, in Mr. Bob Kerrey. I served as a volunteer on his first attempt at holding public office following his return from Vietnam. He was a Lt. and commanded a US Navy SEAL team in Vietnam. He was awarded the Silver Star of other medal of valor before his service ended. Then he was given the Medal of Honor for a mission that took half his foot and ended his military career. A proud pot head back in the day, they never fail to make me proud. He became Nebraska's governor. Then a US Senator. Then ran for President. As did another guy, this one who came to my rescue as my Senator, Mr. Chuck Hagel. John McCain received the Republican Party's nomination for President instead of Chuck Hagel. My late father said it was a big deal. He said not ever has there been a US President who served in the enlisted ranks of any branch of the US military. No shortage of veteran officers, but never an enlisted veteran.
I'll shut up, now. Thank you.

my pilot wo Mr. Hill was an amazing pilot and my friend and hero. We did an extraction where we had no landing zone to land It was all bamboo. I said how are we going to get down there and he said, like this and we began going down thru the bamboo. chopping our way down. There was a firefight going on there. I had to fire straight down trying to avoid hitting friendlies. Bamboo flew everywhere I was getting peppered by shards of bamboo. By the time we got down I had bamboo stuck in all m
y clothes. Lucky, I had my armor plate under my flak jacket and helmet. Lucky I wasn't blinded or hurt in any way. That was the craziest extraction I was ever in. My pilot was killed the next week. I mourn his death to this day. Mr. Hill Wo and my friend. He was the old man being 25 we all were 18 or 19.

tku for posting one of the main reason's for vietnam - helicopters $$$ and the $$$ it cost to replace them! the way that worked was big big money company's like the one's responsible for huey's - get bids contracts etc... these money men became connected to the u.s. military - who runs hand and foot with a co- operative president. J.F.K was not going to... well hell you seen the movie! L.B.J was thrown in there and the money wheel was allowed to go round and round... just saying.
