I'm not a coach and never have been but i feel like I would never tell a player they will have a limited role in the team because it risks what happened here, leads to affecting the players behavior and motivation in a negative way. Was Berhalter hoping it would do the opposite and motivate the player to do prove him wrong? Was the intention to be transparent? Either way i don't see a benefit to doing it. If i was a coach id make it clear spots on the team are up for grabs and whoever proves they deserve them in training and friendlies will earn them, level playing field for all and would motivate players in a positive way.

This is almost 100% Greg’s fault. But not for the reasons being discussed on this video.
He NEVER should have told Gio that he wasn’t going to play in the WC. I realize that Gio didn’t not respond as a professional should have. But Greg knew he was dealing with a young player. He should have known that Gio might react badly, which he did. Greg should have told Gio this: “Christian, Tyler, Weston, and Tim are ahead of you in the depth chart. I will try to get you into the game as much as I can, but there are no guarantees. So I need you to be ready to go at any moment. You are important to this team, so I’ll do my best to get into the WC.”
He should have kept his confidence high and his attitude positive. But Greg did just the opposite. And it looks really bad. Greg has to go. Gio will do more for this team in the future than Greg ever will.

We need more people like Gomez. Honesty is key to longevity and actually speaking your mind and being critical of the USSF is absolutely critical for making the federation fix their wrongdoings and actually trying to make the sport more accessible to more impoverished kids around the country. And let the marketing of soccer go crazy. I want people to know not just the MLS but European & other continental football worldwide. And let the kids choose a path of either football academy or scholarship/recruitment college like what other sports do for other star recruitments. I'm someone who's been a fan of the USMNT since I was around 7-9 (I'm 19 now) and I've seen the highs and lows of the team and how much of a mess it's been and seeing that people now more than ever have been worried about concussions/CTE in the NFL and other more "physical" sports, soccer/football is the way to go and it starts with making the game more obtainable to poorer kids and telling how wonderful the game is internationally. And people actually being critical about it makes me happy that there are others who are as passionate about this team as I am. And with 2026 taking place in US/Canada/Mexico, it's the perfect time to fix these said problems. The US MSM needs to think critically.

I never understand why they have this pay to play system in United States where it costs money to play(soccer) football. There is so much land in United States surely the kids can play in the field and the schools can put up temporary 🥅 in the playground so the kids can play in an organised environment especially for kids from poorer backgrounds. You got the Latin comnunity the poor white kids from the deep south Louisiana etc and the black kids are you telling me you can't nuture talent in the USA over a ten to fifteen year cycle. The average soccer player career last longer than the average American football player career due to the nature of both sports one being based on mainly physicality and soccer being physical but not as brutal as the NFL. It's time for administrators to do their job set up a national programme and delegate it state by state to find young talented sports star and develop their soccer skills from an early age ideally from five years old as a starting base. Now is the time. Parents are scared of their kids playing American football and Hockey due to CTE and concussions

Berhalter knew this would get out in his stupid mind he was correct about all this and wanted an excuse for his downfalls he is a liar and if the federation bring him back we deserve to never win another Gio is not even close to only player to have an issue with him

Berhalter is a poor coach on the field and this proves he isn’t fit for purpose off the field either. Fire him.

And... this calls into question other players he's, if not flat out lied, hasn't told the truth about. His leaving Jordan Pefok home. His favoritism towards players who don't belong on the team.
You put it best and simplest - he's not a good leader. Beyond that, he's untrustworthy. Buhbye Gregggggg

Sebastian is such a Gregg fan boy. It's quite disgusting to see him constantly deflect any sort of warranted criticism toward Berhalter and disguise it as unbiased reporting. What a hack. And as always, Herculez is spot on with his canny analysis.

The problem is that Gregg doesn't have enough coaching experience at a high level to even have material to discuss. He resorted to the most recent example. He seems to lack man management skills for difficult players and big egos...but more importantly....game management skills. His second half adjustments were absolutely horrendous. He will be perfect in the MLS coaching the Earthquakes or whoever.
