  • Skip to 1:30 to watch it run. This is a schwinn stingray bicycle fabricated to hold a 6.5hp 196cc harbor freight engine. The engine is great and you cant beat it with $100. It normally reaches 50mph but I have topped out at 55mph by leaning forward.
    -schwinn stingray
    -hf 6.5hp greyhound engine
-engine mount plate w/ support bars welded to frame
    -motorized bicycle gas tank (ebay)
-72t #35 sprocket 1-3/8" hole fit perfectly on hub (welded)
    -12t max torque clutch
    -walmart wireless bike speedometer
    -B and s muffler
    -custom header from gas pipe
    -chain tensioner (fabricated)

Nice build. If you still have the bike remove the friction clutch and install a comet torque converter kit. You will have all the take off torque you'll ever need and rapid acceleration. Besides the price tag (180.00 bucks) nothing but gains with the conversion. They also had a disc brake kit for this bike, but don't know how well it worked.

I think you did a nice job building it bro , the front fork need some springning though . I've heard finding a sprung fork for those bikes is problematic so you may need to make one. The easiest that still uses the original fron end vvould be to vveld a leaf spring from an old trailer , the vvay Indian Motorcycles used to build them so you can find pics just by googleing it. Still a nice job & probably alot of fun , especially vv/the seat being so lovv compared to any other bike . Keep up the good vvork .

I have had good results using the twist-type shifters off of mountain bikes for throttles by taking the 'clicker' detent spring out of them and putting them on the right handlebar. They are only about 1 and 1/2"long, but you can pull the rubber short grip off ,they will accept a 1" grip forced up on them, making them the length of a motorcycle 's throttle.

i was out and about on my old kit a few monthes ago and got tired of constantly having to fix the darn stock throttle handle thingy. ended up just routing it to a brake lever and found it a lot better.

exhaust matters as much as intake on anything, and being so restrictive; yes, it does absolutely matter. not to mention poor flow can result in overheating and the issues that come along with that.

In California it has to still be able to be pedaled by foot to still be considered a bicycle. If you can turn the pedals you can take it in the bike lanes and don't have to register it.

@MrCherubhair1 Well, if it hasn't happened by now it probably won't. I was mainly concerned about the rib brakes not being designed for that kind of speed, but if it works, it works. I was also thinking of what might happen to the frame's structural integrity. I'm happy to hear I was wrong.

Also, get a sweeping bend for the exhaust. Tight 90 restricts flow.

You should have put a pluming elbow steel fitting on the exit part on your engine so the exhaust can shoot out much easier. you lose power the way you have it now. or go to home depot and get some electrical tubing and just use the pipe bender they have there and just bend the pipe so you don't have the trouble of spending almost 80 bucks on one when you can just do one simple bend there. or just spend 15 to 20 dollars on a big size pipe bender at a swap meet. That will work

i built one of these with a 3.5 hp briggs motor for like a 150$ bucks cause my frend gave me the bike and motor. it tops out at obout 40mph but the one thing that suck about it is that is so slowwww on take off i thought it was cause i used a dirt bike tire in the rear but i saw u have the same problem so its got to be the clutch of the gear ratio it may be the clutch i got mine frome some place in sanford fl. where did u get urs ?????

  • @scrapcrapMandM

i used to have one and i would have one hand on the brake and one on the govenor on the engine so i would rip the engine and the tires would scream but that was on a 12hp mini bike
    lot of fun :)

put a straight pipe like mine on it.you will be happy. use dolly handles for the bend down and right hand bend straight out the back. it will create much needed back pressure and the coolest sound. no muffler needed and quite.
