Yes, Carmen. You are right with your opening statements. I also get the distinct idea that this performance was not as seriously rehearsed, that he was improvising, and especially because there are words/lyrics to direct him other than the musicians with him on stage. He sings so perfectly that a lot think he lipsyncs, first to know he was pitch perfect as a toddler and he could tell you a piano was out of tune or not and which keys. He is amazing so much so that yeah he is doubted just because of that.

This is very very very rehearsed. It is very difficult to structure a vocalise because it involves a lot of vowel changes. Of course he has the freedom to play should he wish to, or need to. But it's not just 'sing as you go'
