I had to do a double take on that picture of the CB&Q engine, it's located in a park in La Crosse WI that has a train show I've been going to with my dad for 30+ years. They set up air to the whistle and let kids go to town on it for a buck. Took both my kids with last year and they had a blast pulling the rope and climbing around the tender.
I'm speechless... This was so awesome! I'm flabbergasted... The railroads really produces characters like Hyce in every shape and sizes! That was over 15 minutes that just disappeared and I'm sitting here like: "It's over? But I wanted more!"
Hearing Brett's voice while holding a machete being told he sounds like a homicidal Bob Ross had me dying laughing, I now see where the emoji in the discord of Brett holding a machete with a maniacal smile and fire in the background comes from.
I've never heard WD Austerity 2-10-0s called 'Wooferdunks' before, the 2-8-0 versions were called 'Dub-dees' though. Well you learn something new every day.
I kind of get the feeling gthere's a bit of Leighton's answer in there too: I could defintely see some of the clapped out ones that ran in...I think Greece?...getting that name. Basically beaten to death.
The fact there is no mystery citrus in the video is astounding. I love every one of these episodes. What a fantastic idea to put this together. Great work guys!
"Were all the same amount of broken" has the same ring as "Were all professional idiots here" by a driver on the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway in the UK.
Holy Crap Hyce i never would have guessed Id see something from my hometown in one of your videos. When I was little I would blow the whistle on her every year during railfest. I never knew her nickname just its engine number 4000. This made my day. Cheers!
There were old anime, called Outlaw Star, and that Leighton's version of Alice the Goon really look like steampunk version of really wacky spaceships from it. Like, melee fighting spaceships level of wackiness. Really good anime, BTW.
Every time I hear "Jimmy From the Cog," my mind immediately replays it as "I'm still, I'm still Jimmy from the Cog," to the tune of "Jenny from the block." I Know some of y'all would get cursed by that, and I can't suffer alone. so you're welcome.
Hilarious onomatopoeia, not enough limes. 7/10. But seriously, that one was definitely hilarious. If I hadn't known Aeolus existed I probably would've guessed Leighton myself. Side note, you might recall the Zephyr trains were named for the Greek god of the west wind, Zephyrus, partly because it started with the last word of the alphabet and would thus stand out more. Aeolus, as I recall, was the chief Greek god of all the winds, so naming a steam locomotive that (and on the opposite side of the alphabet) makes thematic sense.
I thought “Wooferdunk” is the sound of British plank wagons make when fly shunted to a coal tipper in which their buffers (or bumpers for US audiences) make that noise before having their coal tipped backwards.
I'm a recent Hyce fan because of the Kan and Hyce podcast masquerading as a video game, so I've not watched one of these before. It makes so much sense that Hyce is the Tom Scott of trains! Time to binge the entire last season of 3/4 of an idiot lol
That was an impressive level of BS by the liars, especially improvising on those topics. Loved it, can't wait for the next installment! Thank you! :) PS. Brett and the grease machete are nightmare fuel even more than those weird Fairlies (spelling?) from the last livestream.
@Hyce Have you guys ever thought about live-streaming one of these? Audience participation is both fun & profitable. tl;dr = Shut up and take our money! 🤣🤣🤣
I remember hearing about the 'Wooferdunk' nickname ages ago. Besides the noise of the locomotive, it also came from the Austerity 2-10-0s and 2-8-0s' WD classification (WD being short for War Department). Funny thing is, in New Zealand we had a type of 2-6-4T from Baldwin that was also designated as 'WD' class. And is it just me or does Jimmy From-the-Cog look like Gary Brannan from the Technical Difficulties?
Wooferdunks. When my 2 Bass cabinets roll out of the trailer and onto the road. Woofer. Dunk. I did once slam a black widow and the magnet shared off. We use to be rough. Thank you 4 🐑🔊🔊🔊🔊

Hey Hyce you wouldn't Have Happened to Be operating a Train Near Palestine Ohio Recently Have You?! For real though I live in Ohio and That Derailment is crazy! 50 Cars with a Massive Inferno... You should make a video
The wooferdunks look a lot like BR-52’s. I’ve heard somebody say that the 9f looks like a BR-52 but I think I have found the true British kreigslokomotive.
40 years ago, my teacher laughed at me when I told him that reading those Popeye comics he complained about would eventually help me answer a train trivia question. Well, who's laughing now, Mr. Pritt.
on the crane talk the whole anchor off of trees thing isnt unheard of, infact operators of the old spit boom holmes wreckers did it quite often in areas where they dont have space for the outriggers like on narrow bridges or in slip prone conditions or where they just needed counterweight in general. basically theyd have one boom rotated one way anchored to something solid and the other boom would be swung off the other side of the truck recovering whatever wrecked thing needed recovering. that ability is why some operators still consider them to be superior to modern rotators in a way despite having lower weight ratings.
little dumb fact, but most of the Great Western of Britain's tender engines legit go "wooferdunk wooferdunk" even when they're fresh out the shop, please send those engines help
i always find it funny that when english speakers try to make something sound German they automatically make it sound Dutch. Leighton being the case here.
Wooferdunk, a party foul when a rowdy patron kicks your sound system into the pool. . . . . Or the bass boosting speakers used by Hyce for when he plays RO and DUNKs his trains. Alice the Goon, some say on the darkest of nights when you're all alone on the rails. When you go and check your load, you'll find an extra car not on the manifest. All who have gone in to investigate return with their spirits broken and their minds shattered. They say that Alice the Goon haunts the rails as an freight car undelivered and long forgotten. . . . . Except for the fact that there's so many instances of that through out history that it's impossible to tell which one it actually is, but forget about that. Spooopy out-of-season ghost story..... Or, the infamous brakeman who was also a kind of "enforcer" who rode aboard the Big Boys. Somebody got out of line, Alice the Goon chucked them off the train and threw their baggage out after them. Seeing how this is post video, I can't be lying at all.. . . . . . Hyce, could there be a 1/4 of an idiot episode where you have kAN, kosmo, and Dapper on? Do something simpler like Citation needed while building an RO empire. Could be fun AND a potential 1/4 idiot could be in there.
For the next 3/4 of an idiot show can use use the story about the uss barb? During WW2 in Japan, the uss barb put a scuttling charge (a dense explosive) on the rails with a pressure plate. The train went in the air about 100 feet and landed on its side and rolled in the ocean.

Neither had I, so I googled it. Guess what, the only references to "Wooferdunk" all relate to this video
the Wooferdunk nickname is very specific to the ex-LNER coal lines, where the WDs replaced the O2 class on coal hauls.
Whats surprising with this episode is not a SINGLE lime was launched... But yet it still had me rollin' 😝
There were *many* limes thrown in the intermission... lol

The citrus happened in the interim, lol. Surprising there wasn't on in the ep itself.
Well, I can’t say I’ve ever heard of a wreck train that uses support from trees to not fall off a cliff😂
3:15 He’s talking about Aeolus (it actually survives today, and is one of the few to be officially named).
Damn it! I wanted the crane story to be true!
Just love everytime someone swears, (minus the video about the ES&D railroad) it's just a random whistle lol.
