How have these done with that tight spacing? Everything I've read about them suggest huge spacing between the plants. 10ft or more. The area I have is much tighter so I'm planning to grow them much closer. I'm curious how you've done with a similar setup to what I'm planning.
They have gotten much bigger. I am growing them over to the side of the row. My primary goal was to test the variety. Last year I let them go to see where they will set their fruits. On what branches and shoots. Also keep in mind that they start producing only after 4 years or so.
You need to have your kiwis at least 12 to 20 feet apart
Yes! I totally agree with you. I did this to test the varieties, if they would grow well In my climate and if I would like the flavor of the fruit. It takes at least four years for them to start producing fruit, so to save on time, that's what I decided to do.
Thank you for sharing this❣️ I am just beginning to grow Kiwi in zone 4 and we’ll see how this goes. We have been trying to figure out the best place/way to stake them up as the variety I have can grow up to 20 ft high and they need full sun. Your trellis design made sense, so thanks again for sharing. Now I will go see if you have any updated information on how your kiwi are doing.
Great vid, you put out plenty of info on your method of growing cold hardy kiwi. Like the 2 stick training method of the bines, more vids on how you prune them please.
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you for your video ,. I just heard of this and want to grow as well im in the Montreal area and heard of someone growing them and doing well ,...
Oh, you are so welcome, they are doing well in this area. Mine are now beginning to flower for the first time, about half of them, just not the male one yet. Hopefully it does next year. I planted them in 2019. I used to have one kiwi vine like 10 years ago, and it flowerd all the time but had no fruit, if I remember correctly by the flowers, I think I had a male vine.
I posted a update video on the kiwis about two weeks ago now on the flowering of the fuzzy kiwi, since then I have a few other one's that are beginning to flower as well.
Спасибо за информацию.
Пожалуйста!
You might live in a different place. Good one
I just put 5 hardy kiwis in the ground. I live in Tacoma, so hopefully we have success. I will watch for your updates
yes, They should do well here, i think the key is pollination and proper pruning. This is their third season in my garden, i haven't seen them flower yet, so im hoping to see that this year they will flower. i will post progress videos as soon as i see the first signs. What are you using for your trellis?
@@growtolearn4545 I built a cattle panel fence with round poles spaced 8’ apart. I have 50’ of fence with 4 females and 1 male of Ken’s Red.
oh yeah!👍 that should be enough space for them, Good job.
I live in seattle I want to grow a golden kiwi plant do you guys know where can I get one thanks.
Your trellising looks sturdy, it should work well. Hoping you have a great harvest this year! Interested also to see what your fruit will look like, whether the skin will be fuzzy or since you have female kiwis of both varieties. I'm guessing it will depend on what variety of male kiwi you have?
I have a Hardy Kiwi to plant, we live in zone 4A or 4 B, and have about 6 more weeks to go till the last frost date. I've been told it is okay to plant it now since they are cold hardy, as long as the ground can be worked, though the info on the box says 4-6 weeks after the last frost date, ugh so long to wait :) trying to be patient. Not sure if the one I bought is self pollinating, so I will probably be buying another one. This is my first kiwi plant, so I'm experimenting too. Thank you for your example of trellising!
Hi Verginia. Where are you keeping your kiwis now? Also are they still dormant?, if so, you could plant them in ground and put a bucket over them to keep them from freezing. Better yet, if you have a greenhouse, you can start them there and then plant them out when the temperatures are stable.
subbed I see blueberries there too can't wait to see that vid.
Hi garden grower. I do have a couple blueberry videos.
!!!! Лайк.

WOW!! I didn't know we could grow kiwi's here
Hello, Yes the hardy kiwi should do very well here, just need to make sure you have a self fertile variety or have a male and a female plant. You can have up to 8 female vines per one male vine.
