I love your style...the combination of detail around the head and loose watercolor everywhere else really works. I like painting birds, especially owls. I try to keep the painting loose and suggestive but can't seem to get away from trying to put detail in the feathers.....which never seems to work for me. I am going to try and use your technique to see if I can learn from it.
As other comments have mentioned, I really like the use of detailed work to create a focal point and then a loose style for other areas which gives the chickadee in flight such visual motion. I also like your use of salt (a suggestion is to use more granulating watercolors and skip the salt).
Must have been an older UA-cam video. But thanks again for the video, I do like the juxtaposition of loose watercolor application with the detailed portions of your paintings.@@paintedwing

Wow love this as always. I have so many of your birds on my Pinterest board for inspiration. To watch you DO it is mesmerizing. So loose and yet detailed enough to please this detail loving nut. Watching makes me breathe deeply. Thank you! One question, how wet is your paint application when you toss in the salt? I have trouble timing this for an effect like yours. It’s often toss and pray. 😂😂thank you for sharing. Now I want to go play and try it!
Yeah it's definitely a timing thing, it can't be puddle wet but not too dry either. I would suggest creating some swatches on a separate sheet of paper and testing out different water amounts, it's sort of hard to explain the right moment, so trying to out might be easier.
Thank you so much for sharing this delightful video! You are so talented! Lol you make it look so easy. Maybe easy enough for a person like me to paint! Please keep your channel going!👍👍👍👍
@@paintedwing thanks! I was afraid it might leave white spots if a larger grain were to be swiped off but I guess I'll experiment a bit first beforehand just to be safe
@@paintedwing Thanks for the speedy reply.💙 Not on this gorgeous painting, but in general. Sometimes one of the wings which is farther gets out of focus hence a little blurry and I find it hard to paint blurry wings with watercolour. I would appreciate it if you could teach the technics!🙏
Ahhhhh - I love this. Have looked forward to your daily videos on IG, and really enjoyed hearing you talk us through the beautiful and unique process here. More please. HA. Question about the salt…as I needed that look for a flower recently. Once you sprinkle it, does it dissolve? Or do you wail until that section dries and blow or brush it off the canvas? Thanks.
@@paintedwing Turned out terrible, but i learned a couple of things!! I was mentally prepared from the start that this was about learning lol. I will retry in some weeks after more practice!! You have a very skilled hand! GReat video btw ;)
Just table salt, did you add it while your painting was still wet? Your paint should be wet but not a puddle when you apply the salt. It also might have something to do with the paints you are using but I am not sure.
What type of salt did you use here? I have had so many different reactions with salt and yours in this instance seemed to be so consistent over a small space. I don’t always get that!
Thank-you! Love the "detailed" instructions. My favorite part was when you showed the process for painting the bird's eye.
Thanks for watching!
I believe that words may not fully capture thz artwork's beauty
❤ so well done!
I love how you fearlessly create blooms and let them do some beautiful heavy lifting in your work.

Yeah I don't really use salt anymore, thanks.

You are welcome
Your work is beautiful
Thanks!
Awesome
New subscriber! I love your style of painting.
Thank you!
So you use reference photos? This is incredible!
Do you wipe the salt off afterwards or does it dissolve?
If it doesn't dissolve, you can wipe it off after things dry
@@paintedwing thanks! I was afraid it might leave white spots if a larger grain were to be swiped off but I guess I'll experiment a bit first beforehand just to be safe
Love this!! Thank you
my favourite so far!!
Thanks!
Gorgeous!
Thank you!
Thank you!
GREAT VIDEO💙💙😍😍.
I would appreciate it if you could please add a video on how to create blurred wings in the background/off-focus?🙏🙏
You mean like how the back wing is less in focus? I show that in this video and a few others. I am not sure I understand
@@paintedwing Thanks for the speedy reply.💙

Hi thank you! As for the salt, some will dissolve and some will not. Just wait for the paint to fully dry and then you can wipe it off
@@kileyfriese4076 ahhh - that’s what I thought. Thanks Kiley.
What an excellent tutorial! Do you you use photographs to assist you in your selections of composition? ❤ your work!
I use reference photos mixed with my imagination
Thanks a lot for this
I love your watercolor style, would you mind telling me why you sprinkle salt?
It creates texture by absorbing the water at a different rate
@@paintedwing thanks
Wow!
WOW, i´m gonna try this being almost sure it´s gonna be a giant mess.
How did it turn out?
@@paintedwing Turned out terrible, but i learned a couple of things!! I was mentally prepared from the start that this was about learning lol. I will retry in some weeks after more practice!! You have a very skilled hand! GReat video btw ;)
Muito bom, estou começando agora. Me inspirando em você.
Is there a special type of salt i am supposed to use? Because i threw salt over mine and it just sat there, like doing nothing.

I use regular table salt for my paintings
Thanks!
❤❤❤❤❤
❤️❤️❤️
Why do you put salt on it?
It creates texture
Thanks for sharing it. I just did one and will tag you on instagram once is dry . I also messaged you there . Thanks
Awesome!
