- The Durango Silverton Steam Train is known by many as the most scenic stream train in America. I've never been on a historic steam train ride and thanks to my good friend @DownieLive I was able to cross this off my bucket list. The Durango Silverton train is 141 years old and it is a 3 ft narrow-gauge heritage railroad that operates on 45.2 mi of track between Durango and Silverton, in the U.S. state of Colorado.

Downie, I watch a lot of your videos and it's very nice to watch another point of view on the trains. I love trains + there's a train muesem near me that I go to and film trains. The muesem also has a model train railroad that I like very much.

I've watched you for a while on Downie's channel and liked you so much, I decided to come watch YOUR channel. I should've known you were from Texas...such a genuine, nice smile and so down to earth.

I love the Durango Silverton route I have rode it the first time when I was fifteen a second when I was in my 30s and again in my late 50s. I plan to ride it again. Always in an outdoor car. In my 30s I recorded the entire ride on VHS which was converted to digital. I still watch it occasionally.

I'm from Durango. The train goes all the way to Silverton, and I think it's worth going all the way. But it is a very long day. I recommend doing the train one way and the bus back. It shortens the day a bit and also gives completely different views, each way. When in Silverton, go to The Coffee Bear, have a peanut butter bar, and think of me. When in Durango, come say hi to me at Carver Brewing Co (I serve lunch Friday and Sunday) or College Drive Cafe (I serve breakfast Thursday and Saturday). And hey, feel free to bring me a peanut butter bar from Silverton!

I been watching several of your videos. I admire all your adventures and your personality, laugh and smile adds to the excitement. Also you are a great Videographer.
All the enclosed cars were built in 1881-1882. They have been modernized and updated periodically since then, but the base units are about what they were in the 1880s. The railroad has "8" steam engines, 1 was built in 1905 as a standard gauge engine and later converted to narrow gauge. 3 more were built in 1923 and 4 more were built in 1925. All the engines have been in continuous service since their build dates. There are 3 trains daily, the initial two go all the way to Silverton and back, and the 3rd one is shorter, designed for families with young children with a shorter attention span or for families that want a shorter train experience. The shorter-trip train, which Will Edmond and his friend are riding, does pass through some of the most scenic portions of the trip, the "High Line" and the Animas River Canyon, so everybody gets a good exposure to the SW Colorado mountains.

Then in October they do the Great Pumpkin Patch Express train ride where they take you to a pumpkin patch and everyone gets to select a pumpkin!!! then in December they do the Polar Express and all the kiddos wear pajamas and Santa is on the train!!! Hey Will! Love watching yours and Mike's channels on those wonderful steam locomotive trains. I have rode a couple myself. You two should come to NC and ride the Great Smokey Mountain Railroad in Bryson City to see the Smokies. A drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway is breathtaking! Then visit the Cherokee Reservation, Great Smokey Mountains National Park and Gatlinburg. They're all close to each other. You'd have a blast! 🤗
I’d recommend the Strasburg Railroad in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. It is the longest continually running railroad in the United States I believe.

The best part was also seeing another part of Colorado that I haven’t seen before the terrain here is definitely different from the Denver area.

Have you done the Cumbres and Toltec? The train is 64 miles total distance and takes close to 7 hours to do by the way.
