Thanks for this video. Was looking into backing up VM's without having to purchase another PC. In my case, purchasing another PC would have been over-kill for my application.
Hi... even though an old video I m going to give it a try. You mentioned that you use/used as a backup a freenas server. I imagine the connection between prox and freenas is a 10gbe road? I am trying to figure out the configuration for something like this to work and what I mean is . When the management of proxmox is on a 1gbe port how to dictate proxmox to use the 10gbe port instead, assuming there is a straight connection between prox and freenas with a 10gbe DAC cable. Probably the first step is t osetup in prox a remote connection. That means the remote side has the shared storage via the 10gbe road. What avbout the proxmox though? What is that informs prox to use the 10gbe instead of the 1gbe which is currently the management port.
Sir, i will follow your instruction step by step, if this work use hdd eksternal to back up proxmox. My question.. May i plug in and plug out hdd eksternal? because i wan to use hdd eksternal with another dekstop to backup. So i must plug out the hdd eksternal.
So yeah, emergency mode on reboot because I added the UUID as shown in this video. Have you tested this on reboot? Spent 2 hours troubleshooting to fix it.
Thanks for the video. I was wondering what would be the procedure to unmount the disk and use it somewhere else again ? Or otherwise said, how can I revert the process ? Secondly, if I would install a windows or linux machine can I run the VM on the SSD but use part of the external storage as well ? If so, how would this go ?
You can mount a samba share and backup to it. Something I have done is install NFS Service on a Windows server then add that NFS share to the Proxmox for backup.
@@GetMeTheGeek hi, thanks to reply, but I wish to make it in reverse. I have a nuc and on it there is promox. Plugged in this nuc, there is a usb drive, /dev/sdb/ and on it I backup promox machine. I Wish to share this usb , over the network, with samba maybe. I have installed samba but I can see only home assistant folders I followed this tutorial github.com/Kanga-Who/home-assistant/blob/53ac6a3e77e3654a4f5835bde7cef91493cc08a0/Install%20Samba%2C%20Portainer%20and%20MQTT.md I have tried to add /dev/sdb but doesn't appear in samba. You know why?
followed the tut to the end, got my usb backup drive in left column under storage, but when i click backup its not in the dropdown list, only showing local. Maybe things changed in this version 7
Thank you for the video! I followed it to the T ... and ran into some issues. /root /empty-ram-backup .sh wasn't executable and had some bad syntax. I fixed the permissions and syntax and THEN the backups started working! Never touched the file before then, so no idea why it was in such a bad state ... I would link the details, but UA-cam keeps deleting my comments if I include a URL.

Thank you! I was able to do this on first try (after I learned to type /etc instead of /ect) Great job.
yay, thanks for the info ! Setup 8TB USB HDD and off I went backing up all my VMs before messing with my cluster again :-) cheers
Thanks for the video. Helped me a lot and implemented it myself. :)
You crushed it...thanks! Now how do we backup our Proxmox config?
thank you
This was perfect, thank you!
thanks mate, you made my day much easier.

How do i know remove it? I deleted if from storage devices but proxmox keeps looking for it on reboot and fails to boot!

PhasedLogix IT Services Amazing tutorial, but is possible to share this usb drive, in samba over the local network? If yes, how? thanks

Found out cause...need to go to Data center, backup, click on usb, click edit and add to the list of accepted. it was only on iso.
Proxmox Hero :)
Tnx man
Is it possible to add a USB Docking station with 2 drives?
Proxmox is based of Debian Linux. Any hardware that works in Debian should work on Proxmox. I would say yes.
You could have lowered the resolution even more
