I'm a dude in my mid 50s, and just became familar with Tori Kelly when she was on American Idol last week...I was super impressed with her on that show, and now have been listening to her new album and other older ones, and I must say - I haven't heard a voice like this in a LONG time. It's like if Whitney Houston and Pat Benetar had a baby. Tori is clearly a master technican with her instrument, but what puts her into the next stratosphere is her edgy grit and heart-on-your-sleeve SOUL. One of the best vocalists I've ever heard in my life.
I've been following her since she was 11 years old on a singing competition .... she blew me away, and I'm a singer, and not many people make me feel like she does when she sings.
IDK if they mentioned this on American Idol, but it's even more ironic she was a mentor because American Idol rejected her when she auditioned years ago!
