I was playing a fangame where Iv's and Ev's help a lot because it's meant to be more difficult, so this helped a lot! it's (pokemon insurgence btw, and the post-game final boss has a perfect team with all maxed Ev's and Iv's) update: I looked at your channel and it seems like it's been inactive for a while, does this mean you aren't doing yt anymore?

I subscribed because of thus but yes 1 question. I'm very old school currently on a complete pokedex run in FR LG Ruby Sapphire and Emerald. Do they have 0 to 31 iv and how can I tell in old school games. Love your vids
Thank you! I believe in gen 3 there is no mechanism to tell in-game but you can use online calculators, and yes in gen 3 they do have 0-31 :)

Wait I have a question. Why does a perfect iv, perfect ev, and perfect nature pokemon have to be leveled up to lvl 100 if all pokemon are set to level 50? Won't everyone just have stat values based off of their ivs, evs, and nature anyway? Like why does level 100 matter when all battles are set to lvl 50?
Hi Steve! :D Perhaps you missed it in the video but I addressed that specifically :) I explained that the full benefit of good EV's and IV's rose in proportion with the Pokemon's level, that's why at level 100 a Pokemon would reap its full benefit from its EV's and IV's, but this also means that at level 50 a Pokemon would get 50% of the potential benefit. (It's a little more complex than that but the gist is the same) so even if a Pokemon isn't at level 100 it still gets the benefit of its EV's and IV's proportionate to its current level.
So a level 50 Pokemon with 0 IV's and EV's will have a *huge* difference in stat totals compared to a fully EV and IV trained Pokemon at level 50, it's just that the IV and EV 'boost' would be at its peak when the Pokemon is at level 100.
Seeing as competitive battles set all Pokemon to level 50 it means every Pokemon in that battle is getting the exact same effective benefit from its EV's and IV's , so although they're not at level 100, it makes no difference because given that all the Pokemon are at the same level, they all have the exact same stat bonus from their EV's and IV's as their opponents.

so you can use berries in order to boost or decrease the EVs chosen? correct ? gosh finding first a pokemon with 90+ ev to make it mega, so imagine a pokemon with perfect score and mega, is nuts. and if it happen to be a shiny with perfect nature then the chances are you got a grade 10 lol
In the newer games you can use EV boosting items (protein, iron, carbos etc) more as their limit per stat was raised.
You can use specific berries to lower a Pokémon's existing EV's if you want to reset them.
As of gen 7 you can artificially boost a pokémon's IV's using bottle caps, plus as of gen 8 you can buy mints that change a pokémon's nature, so if you find a shiny you like and you have it in gen 8 or later you can reset its EV's, train them and then boost all its IV's with bottle caps and round it out by giving it a preferred nature via the aforementioned mints so unless you're looking at a pokémon in an older gen you really don't need to worry about natures, IV's, and EV's if you're willing to put in some time to grind them out :)
After rereading your question I'd like to make it clear that when you catch a pokémon it has *zero* EV's, so when you talk of catching a pokémon with 90+ EV's I think you may have misunderstood

Late reply but correct, but be careful when IV training as it's very easy to give the wrong IV's to your pokémon, and in early generations it is either difficult or outright impossible to reset them so you need to watch out

@@KantoKairyu not really. I'm still wrapping my mind around the complexities. I just feel like a lot of people use the same couple different teams and I wonder by adding so many mechanics in the game it makes it so that so few pokemon would be considered "competition level". Or is the game so balanced that any Pokemon can be on a winning competitive team?
@@djgiermann8826 It's a good question, well *all* pokemon have natures, EV's, IV's and so on, so sadly while yes you can beef up some weaker mons the stronger pokes can also have their stats optimised with proper training, that being said my honest advice is just to battle with the pokes you like man, might not win every game but if you have a team you love I'd say you should stick with them
Just to clarify for Ev's. Let's just say i use a pidgey and switch to a more powerful pokemon and that pokemon defeats the pokemon it's battling, will this also affect both

In your example with the mew despite the fact that it was already lvl 100 it still got the benefit of the EV’s it got, is this the same in game? I thought EV’s were applied when leveling up.

That's not how it works I'm afraid, each Pokemon has an EV value, you need to defeat Pokemon that hold these values to gain them for your own Pokemon, if you like I could explain? Feel free to ask any questions ^_^

No need to apologise dude! It's a fair question :) basically because unless a Pokemon is specifically trained to have exactly the EV's you want, it's gonna have a really poor spread that isn't much use in battle, the average Pokemon you use in a playthrough will more or less have a roughly average distribution of their EV's, and this is not good at all for competitive. The best route to go in competitive is usually to maximise 2 particular stats, and seeing as you can only have a limited number of EV's, you want to make sure you're using them as best you can! :) Thanks for the comment by the way, if you found the video helpful please subscribe! @@KantoKairyu Oh it's actually a rom of Fire Red that changes the game to be a lot more like competitive pokemon rather than the regular pve experience. It has the national dex for all 8 gens but runs on the fire red engine. Its an amazing game but every gym leader has a competitive style team so I was looking for more information on how to make my team stronger lol. It's an amazing game and a real step above most games if you're up for a challenge. I HIGHLY recommend giving it a try

I haven't played pokemon since LeafGreen (damn I'm old now 🥲) and a few days ago I got into researching the pokemon games; mostly comparing them so I can decide which game I maybe wanna pick up at some point to get my nostalgia fix. I've ended up down the rabbit hole of ROM hacks, PokeMMO's & EV/IV maxing 😆 lmao.
