or not, I mean it's really up to you.
Man they're making ttrpgs for every flavor of freak these days. Glad someone picked mine.
Hi, i just found your chanel threw FATAL. I did not know transformation would be something, that interests me, but after hearing your description i really want to play that game.
I love the idea of "setting agnostic, but with a very specific theme in mind" kind of games, although this screams "its the dms fetish" lol
Correct.
Eh, it seems WAY too high effort to be ONLY for that
@@featherlessbiped1204they are right. The game was over 75% built on horny
@@ulyssesduckler7345 Okay, but you could totally use this for non-horny stuff. Heck, most of the provided scenarios aren't innately on that wavelength.
If that's what you're into, you certainly can.
Just the Change Cross alone could be an interesting way to handle something like a curse in a standard TRPG.
I remember wanting to make a game based on the transformation webcomic "Misfile" that used standard playing cards, and the idea of trading character sheets to make changes. Never really got far with that, though the card mechanic got used for my 24 hour game "Of G-Men and Supermen" This does look like a better way to handle the situation that I considered.
As a GM, with such an unintuitive singular mechanic this would take a very specific group and considerable effort to make enjoyable.
As a Player, if the point of the system is to change, then why attach the change to failure? Think it'd be better if they reversed the helix so that you started at the center and grew outward, and thus succeeded through change rather than in spite of it.
From the looks of it, the theme makes it hard to find the right group of players, though I read on the game page there are rules for solo and for GM-less play.
As for the system, notice that change sometimes means success (as was with the wings helping against the wizard). Change just means more change comes easier.
And it makes sense narratively - characters usually struggle against forced change, it makes for a better story than blind acceptance of an unknown fate...
I think it being structured as a fall towards irreversibility might be a side effect of this being designed towards Horny - from what I’ve seen that looks like a core trope in this sort of media. I think reversing the structure like you suggest so that it signifies a rise towards acceptance instead of a fall towards irreversible change would make it a lot more applicable for character growth in more typical games.
@@pialamodenarritively "irreversable" makes sense as a step on the path to "acceptance", so maybe there's a way to combine the two. idk
Okay, I don't know If the "Mighty Morphin' Power Ranger" shirt is another change pun, but if it is, well played!
Like a lot of rules-lite games, there seems to be a somewhat interesting mechanic but not really a whole lot to actually hang the game off of; it seems like for the experience provided you could use either free-form or a rules-lite with a slightly less fiddly mechanic to achieve a comparable time. The mechanic provides a modicum of strategic choice, but as this isn't a game you "play to win", but to experience, strategic choice is a bit meaningless. Conceptually it's quite interesting, but I'm not sure it lands.
I feel like a good chunk of the target audience would appreciate the strange particularity of the game and rigidity of rules over free-form.
Good review! I’ve always wanted people to look at the more ah, *niche* games like this or other less than sfw works in a serious way because I wanna know about how they play vs how the vibes are or as a freak show, hope to see more!
Transformation isn’t inherently nsfw.
I mean that is completely fair, in hindsight could’ve worded my comment better.
*takes drag on cig*
Yall just gotta give it a chance. Trust.
I was sitting here thinking it seems like you solo play some transformation journey with plenty of replay value. Could see that as some kind of main character with companions thing, somehow, I guess.
Seems like a scenario building tool set, though, for designing those transforms
There is a very thorough solo play ruleset and over 80 scenarios for solo play contributed by fans which come with the PDF. It's quite replayable.
Hey, I just found your channel I like the way you explain the rules of the game through demonstration. I can't wait to watch more of your videos
As a big TF fan, this has been on my list for a while. Thabks for showing it if in how it works.
Edit: A friend bought it for me as an early bday present, wooo!
I'm wandering if it can be just about going through stuff and becoming a different person (for better or for worse) out of it, besides transitioning (and I would assume besides developing a complex disability and learning how to deal with it). Like, starting ones life from scratch, or facing a war, or something of a sort
One of the first things that popped into my mind is using this as a mini side system for typical D&D Paladin. The goal isn't the Fall, but feels like it would add more flavor and nuance.
Like+comment for a ttrpg using tarot cards. I am developing a game using tarot cards to decide turn order. When it's ready for public release I'll let you know. (If you'd like.)
if you insist
When I first started watching your channel I didn't expect this content, but consider me pleasantly surprised. Great stuff!
I don't understand. Are all the players using the same deck of 22 major-arcana Tarot cards? Cards may be expended very quickly and removed from the deck too fast.
Seems like a solo or duo play game. If run as a coop where everyone is playing a character with a different journey and alternating GMs duties, then you can do a party I guess
There are cards which reshuffle the deck. Even in groups of 5+ and lots of action, it never stays thin for long. Players can play with seperate decks in longer games though.
i love the Empress card too! my most loved OC is a green dragon girl after all JAJAJA
So this game is kinda like Ten Candles in a way? You are meant to resist the fail-state for a reasonable amount of time, but the fail-state is inevitable? Cuz journey not destination etc?
Seems like it would be better off being homebrewed on to another game like Werewolf since there doesn't seem to be enough here for a full game
Interesting.
This is such an interesting game.
Wow, some interesting ideas but I just… well mechanically this game is not for everyone, thematics aside.
sounds fun, makes me wish I had money.
Gonna be real, i have no idea what a "TF" game was and the game is called "to change" so i just hear "trans female" every time
Tf means “transformation”
Gonna use it in a horrificly disgusting body horror mutation setting :D
Unfortunately this game is a combination of things I hate the most in the TTRPG space. Extremely thin rules and a type of rules resolution that makes it so you have to jump through more hoops that make running the game only online (which is the situation I have to be in. I can barely find an online group that's consistent, let alone a in person group.) much harder. I have never seen a single game that uses cards use them in a way that is convenient or needed to function. You can do plenty of unique things with dice. It's just frustrating.
There is a online card drawing program specifically designed for the system. Online play is not hampered by the use of cards.
I can probably wrote you a python script, that allows you to draw cards digitally. It would just be a draw pile, a hand and a discard pile array with boolians for if a card happens to be in that pile or not. And then functions to draw, discard and shuffle.
The mechanic used here can’t be done with dice. The card you choose can’t be drawn again until the deck is reshuffled, which only happens when a specific card is drawn, can’t do that with dice.
