Who am I:
I’m Tom, a Open University student studying Computing & IT. I make videos about my time with Open University covering my modules and other tips I have for other students. If you have any questions about the Open University or studying in general then feel free to ask!
Great video. Useful for those who start with distance learning. I usually view the module page before the start of the module in the OU, look at the TMA dates (if available) and just browse in random whatvever is on the page. And if upon registration it comes with a textbook, I start browsing this as well.
EdTV yeah I forgot to mention books as I haven’t got any this year sadly, looking through the book as soon as you get them is always a good way to get a head start
Hey Tom just seen the date - great you still around. I've just started MSc Maths with the OU. Been finding your vids very helpful. You are so cool n relaxed.
Thankyou for watching, I'm glad the videos are helpful!
@@TomWagstaff Very. Thanks for being there. Ziggy.
Just out of curiosity, what's your career plan after you complete your MSc Maths? 🤔
Hey Tom, I am doing a DipHE in Software Development with the OU, it's my first ever HE course at 35 years old, last time I was in education was in 2003 at York college and we really didn't have such a huge amount of free learning tools in courses and UA-cam videos online. I think it's great people can just bang on a video like this while they dust their desk lol
Great video as always bro! I’m well into year one now and very much enjoying it. The o Reilly books are indeed fantastic I own many of them!
Thanks man! Glad to hear you’re enjoying it, I’ve started collecting the o’Reilly books myself by buying the pdf versions from bundle sites (humble bundle mainly) as I don’t want to get too used to having them all available through the OU haha
A year late to the vid, but super handy, thank you! Also doing the computing module this year and totally lost! Than you sm
You're welcome, I'm glad it was helpful! You'll get used to everything soon, good luck with your studies!
I really love your videos they are very helpful. My course will start in few days and these videos gives me what i needs
Thank you for watching, glad to hear the videos are helpful! Good luck with your studies
Hey Tom love your videos mate really informative doing same course except I took the networking route ..just wandered is that software you mentioned similar to OneNote?
Taonga Tee thanks for watching, I’m glad they’re helpful! Yes in a way, Notion can do a lot more then OneNote (which is what I used last year). OneNote is a lot more straightforward though, which is definitely not a bad thing, I had to spend a couple of hours on Notion before I got the hang of everything and it still has some issues that OneNote does very well such as copying and pasting (very hit or miss) and having a offline mode etc.
Notion is worth a look if you want something more comprehensive then OneNote though
@@TomWagstaff thanks for taking your time in replying and clarifying much appreciation bud. Will have a look and compare the two see which will be more suited for my own use.
Thank you so much
You're welcome, thank you for watching!
Tom do You recommend OU?
Thank you
im doing same course as you... for the tm111 tma i dont know what to expect how important is it what shall i look to revise because they sent me a few books for tm111
im 18 btw
If you follow the study guide on your student page for the module it will tell you what to study each week. The TMA typically also says which part of the book each question is based off so you know which parts to re-read if you don’t know the answer.
