Been reading the comics since 94. I used to buy the new issue of Wolverine and remember The Age of Apocalypse. The MCU is trash compared to the comics.
For Marvel I can see each set being tagged to specific major marvel teams/universes which could sustain their own sets by fandom alone. You will likely see sets spread into X-Men, Avengers, Spiderman, and possibly a Fantastic Four. Then you will get a metric ton of secret lairs staring individual characters over the next 2-3 years which gives collectors the ability to target their favorite characters in unique treatments. I mean when any company gets access to the Marvel IP you abuse that shit.
I doubt wotc could afford to do that and I'm terrified of how bad they WILL screw a Marvel set up. However, if they did a standalone Xmen set... I'm going broke 😅
Love that Marvel is coming out in Secret Lair first, I don’t want to have to try and buy some cards in collectors boxes, when I can get my experience guaranteed in the secret lair… great choice by Magic thank you
The manipulation is more based on people trying to figure out the new meta/cards and prioritize certain cards they deem more used/valued? While holding off on the ones they deem will be in less decks later on? And sure, you have the spectators doing this same thing with the intent to resell later on. I don't see it being any more complicated than that and that isn't new to any TCG. For example. When the ring hit $20 I bought 2 copies to own for myself, when king Arthur hit $5 I snagged a few at that time, i'm also still waiting on other uniques to fall a bit more before commitment, and so on. Willing to bet most players/collectors are doing this very thing from casuals to whales to store owners. Now if you said the demand was strong, which is self-evident of the sales, then I would agree entirely. But we really have no idea how many people are buying for whatever reason(s).

54 min in - I think mid year between releases Sorcery should do a very small supplement. I thought Ed Beard was doing something? That might work perfectly. But other than that, the once a year release and collectability is great. I hope it sticks. In reference to overprinting, well, ARC UNL is still below MSRP. That’s horrible for a game. LSS is making mistakes and not allowing the customer (store owners) to be right. It’s a pretty basic rule of business. That and the snotty players disuade new people at the LGS.
Starting with a secret layer makes sense. FOMO will make people jump to get the mechanically you need heroes I guarantee they will be reprinted again but with different art if they did a bass first, then a secret layer not everyone would buy the secret layer doing it this way everyone will buy the secret layer then they can do a main launch, but they’re gonna wait a minute. They will start with Spider-Man and they will wait to do the avengers until maybe the summer.
Bull market for newer sets with high power creep cards. Old sets are weak. I love the old sets, but there's typically only a few cards per set that are viable in current commander.
We're currently in a bull market in the stock market and probably isn't going anywhere for the next year, which just so happens to coincide with all of the Universe Beyond set releases. It's quarter four right now, meaning spending is only going to go up, which just so happens to coincide with the release of the Marvel Secret Lair and Foundations (the set that's meant to introduce new buyers, I mean players, into the game). So, are we in a bull market in tcg? I would think so.

Josh, 2019 for my city was thriving with MTG. EVERY format but pauper and vintage was firing off at multiple LGS. Constant 3 pods for Throne drafts. Eldraine made things insane. Your area must be bad for MTG.
In 6 years, it's 2030. Sorcery would have released 5 or 6 more sets, Magic will have released 60 more sets plus 10 new products and 1,000 secret lairs or whatever. I just don't see any KS game getting much bigger than it is right now. Enjoy the game, the cards aren't really worth anything (yet)

Those singles are being bought by couple dozen people. If you have valuable Sorcery cards, now is the time to get your money back. Unless EC brings their deck size back to normal, this game won't move anywhere beyond KS speculators.

Would be interesting to have each character have their own set and then have a remastered set be an Avengers set down the road.
