My dad died less than two weeks ago. On my way home from his funeral, I was driving down a winding country highway lined with pine trees when this song came on my playlist. I had never thought about this song in relationship to my dad before, but suddenly that was exactly what it meant to me. "And I carry it with me like my daddy did, but I'm livin' the dream that he kept hid" made me think about some of the dreams he shared with us growing up that he never got to fulfill. I also grew taking long road trips in the back of a station wagon, we drove all over the country. - "rolling me down the highway" - often camping out along the way. My dad loved to drive and was always off on adventure, not settling down until he was 87 years old - "moving ahead so life won't pass me by." I might never fulfill the dreams Dad didn't get a chance to achieve, but from now on I will always think of him when I hear this song.
I had something similar happen to me with a song on the radio after my dad passed. I feel it is serendipitous, a meaningful coincidence, and it's a message from your dad. My condolences. ❤️🩹
I love how music takes you back to that special moment filled with nostalgia and sentimental memories. My parents have been gone since 2001. I love and miss them every day. Music has played such an important part of the the coping and healing. Much love to you and your family. I’m sure dad was a great man. My thoughts are with you! ❤👊
I believe we are blessed by his early departure from our plane…what he left us with was magnificent. Maybe it was him being taken so we could truly appreciate him…even decades (and centuries) later, as his art will live on forever. I’m thankful for what we did get. It’s better to have loved and lost than never to have loved. Jim Crocce is the musical embodiment of that philosophy.
Like the pine trees lining the winding road I've got a name, I've got a name Like the singing bird and the croaking toad I've got a name, I've got a name And I carry it with me like my daddy did But I'm livin' the dream That he kept hid Movin' me down the highway Rollin' me down the highway Movin' ahead so life won't pass me by Like the north wind whistlin' down the sky I've got a song, I've got a song Like the whip-poor-will and the baby's cry I've got a song, I've got a song And I carry it with me and I sing it loud If it gets me nowhere I'll go there proud Movin' me down the highway Rollin' me down the highway Movin' ahead so life won't pass me by And I'm gonna go there free Like the fool, I am, and I'll always be I've got a dream, I've got a dream They can change their minds, but they can't change me I've got a dream, I've got a dream Oh, I know I could share it if you want me to If you're goin' my way I'll go with you Movin' me down the highway Rollin' me down the highway Movin' ahead so life won't pass me by Movin' me down the highway Rollin' me down the highway Movin' ahead so life won't pass me by
Allô. Merci d'avoir écrit les paroles, je n'ai jamais su ce que ça disait et ça dit tout, c'est ce que je ressens quand je sors sur la route avec ma moto. Mille merci.
I have been a fan since 1972. Loved watching him on The Midnight Special, I think this was his last appearance on there. Always missed and never forgotten.
My son sang this song at a PTA meeting at school two weeks after his father died, before singing he said he is dedicating this song to me and everyone in the room looked at me. He sang while strumming the guitar and he pretty much sounded like Jim Croche. This song made me cry, what a fitting song for someone who’s father just died. He really love Jim Croce.
Being a teenager in the '70's, I never realized how much Croce's songs shaped my experiences. So many great songs in such a short time. A life taken way too early.
The video footage, though not the audio, comes from jim croce's second (and, as it turned out, final) appearance on nbc's midnight special, broadcast on september 14th, 1973 (likely taped sometime in august), less than a week prior to the tragic fatal plane crash in louisiana.
I remember when his death was announced on Sonny and Cher, so sad. Jim had such a beautiful spirit and his songs are so special, this is my favorite, RIP Jim you are sadly missed.
I was born in 75' and as early as I can remember (as a very young child ) I LOVED Jim Croce 's music. I remember having almost every record of his...I have children now and a grandson who LOVE Jim Croce's music also!
I am 23 years old. Growing up, my dad introduced my brother an I to his music. We loved bad bad Leroy brown and operator, but this song, this song is what’s been so painfully beautiful to me. My dad was diagnosed with stage 4 liver cancer a month ago. He is only 56. This song is one of his favorites, he talks about listening to it when he was a little boy. I often think about where he was when he first heard this song, what memories he has associated with it. I know this isn’t his most favorite song in the world, but it’s one of them, and it’s the one that most makes me think about my dad. We listened to it together a few weeks ago and it meant the absolute world to me and I will forever thank God for that moment, no one will ever understand how much it meant to me. I hope I get a few more months with my dad. I hope for much longer but I know that’s not logical, still I hope. Jim Croce will forever be a big part of my life. And I hope I will get to listen to this with my dad many more times.
My dad passed on the night of September 1st. My brother and I both had our alone time with him about two hours before he passed. I listened to this song with him one last time. Rip daddy 6/1/68-9/1/24
Talented lifes always seem to be for a good time and not a long time. Kind of games God likes to play. Sad for us all. Jim definitely will win in HEAVEN GOT TALENTS show.
He died at only 30 years old but he looks and seems so much older. His music seems to come from an "older soul" and he looks at least 40 (and I'm not saying that in a bad way!)
Yep I done legally changed my name back to Daddy’s last name twice because I’m not settling for abuse and mess or anything less than what I saw growing up which was a faithful relationship my parents were married over 60 years and loved each other and us and were faithful . If you ain’t got love for me you can hit the bricks.
i just realized that jim was tuned a whole step up, where Maury was capoed at the second so they could play in key together. That is kinda hard on guitars.....
I remeber this song in the 1970s. I was a student at California State Univerity at Sacrmento. Lots of fond memories, such as Stephanie, Hannah and Yasuko. Very good people.
This Song Always Brings A Tear To My Eyes. Thank You So Much, Sammy For Always Treating Us Old Timers With The Very Best Of Classic Music There Is To Offer. "We All Love Your Selections!"❤🙏👍👍✌*(R.I.P,Jim)*
That's good enough for me. Censorship of comments so can't share with each other. I found this great video and insisted that I knew there was something with comments, I never knew we'd get this. To you Jim, we all got a name, Alex.
You Have a Name I just wanted to remind you that you have a name and you can carry it or not, but it is yours. Find your real dream and live it. Don't let life pass you by. Someone knows you well and you can know who you are in that knowledge. Whether you know yourself well or not, move forward in the knowledge that you are fully known and will some day know even as you are known. "For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known." - 1 Corinthians 13:12 (That comes from the Love Chapter! Agape is the basis of your real name!)
2024 год. А я помню эту песню и очень люблю. Жаль, что Джим погиб таким молодым и так много не успел сотворить. 2024 I remember this song and love it very much. It’s a pity that Jim died so young and didn’t have time to do so much.
Thank you for making this version. I can tell you mixed the recorded version with the live version. I always thought the live version wasn’t as good because the strings weren’t included. This version gives me goosebumps everytime I watch it
I definitely love old musics , 70s ,80s,90s even today's music that's are unique but honestly Jim Croce totally lives at the highest height on my heart

😢Beautifully sad❤
Hang in there, it's a hard one but it does get better in time.
I had something similar happen to me with a song on the radio after my dad passed. I feel it is serendipitous, a meaningful coincidence, and it's a message from your dad. My condolences. ❤️🩹
My heart hurts for you. May his journey on starlight be peaceful...
I love how music takes you back to that special moment filled with nostalgia and sentimental memories. My parents have been gone since 2001. I love and miss them every day. Music has played such an important part of the the coping and healing.
Much love to you and your family. I’m sure dad was a great man. My thoughts are with you! ❤👊
How great would this guy have been, tragically lost early in life.
I proposed this to be our high school class of '75 theme song, and everyone agreed!
My favorite Jim Croce song. Taken away from us way too soon but never forgotten. RIP Jim
Mine too
Same - this is "my song". I love it.
And it was one of the only songs of his he didn't write.
What this man would have produced if he had lived, is unfathomable
Great Grammar😉
Actually, he was leaving the music industry, so he wouldn't have produced any more music.
Who would have Jim Collaborated with over the years?
I GUARANTEE, I Promise you , If Jim lived, .. He would have been on the MUPPET SHOW!!!
This song is perfection
So beautiful. This was life before the internet. It was real.
Like the pine trees lining the winding road
I've got a name, I've got a name
Like the singing bird and the croaking toad
I've got a name, I've got a name
And I carry it with me like my daddy did
But I'm livin' the dream
That he kept hid
Movin' me down the highway
Rollin' me down the highway
Movin' ahead so life won't pass me by
Like the north wind whistlin' down the sky
I've got a song, I've got a song
Like the whip-poor-will and the baby's cry
I've got a song, I've got a song
And I carry it with me and I sing it loud
If it gets me nowhere
I'll go there proud
Movin' me down the highway
Rollin' me down the highway
Movin' ahead so life won't pass me by
And I'm gonna go there free
Like the fool, I am, and I'll always be
I've got a dream, I've got a dream
They can change their minds, but they can't change me
I've got a dream, I've got a dream
Oh, I know I could share it if you want me to
If you're goin' my way
I'll go with you
Movin' me down the highway
Rollin' me down the highway
Movin' ahead so life won't pass me by
Movin' me down the highway
Rollin' me down the highway
Movin' ahead so life won't pass me by
Allô.

Mille merci.
This is the realest song ever written
One of the greatest songs written and performed of all time. God is so Good.
With Jim Croce you’ve got to appreciate the genius he gave us, but you can’t help but wonder what could’ve been.
I have been a fan since 1972. Loved watching him on The Midnight Special, I think this was his last appearance on there. Always missed and never forgotten.
My dad worked art consultant, i would occasionally be in the studio audience ❤
My Daddy died in 1973 when I was a baby! I'm living the life that he couldn't Live!!!💔✝️🙏 He's in the Graveyard Tonight!
My son sang this song at a PTA meeting at school two weeks after his father died, before singing he said he is dedicating this song to me and everyone in the room looked at me. WONDERFUL!!!!😇🍀🙏🏼🌈
My son sang this song at school two weeks after his father dies? 😮

I woke up from a dream today and wanted to hear this song. RIP JC
Genius song writing and genius guitar work. Still an all time great song to me!
Damn...This man had such spectacular songs, Wish he had a longer life
Being a teenager in the '70's, I never realized how much Croce's songs shaped my experiences. So many great songs in such a short time. A life taken way too early.
RIP Jim and Maury forever 30 and 24 ❤❤😢😢

I was going to say, this looks synced
I remember when his death was announced on Sonny and Cher, so sad. Jim had such a beautiful spirit and his songs are so special, this is my favorite, RIP Jim you are sadly missed.
Great memories of a simpler time, I was 13 and coming of age when songs like this came out. How lucky was I to have this kind of music at that time.
This song brings a few tears to my eyes every time
This song is a gem
I was born in 75' and as early as I can remember (as a very young child ) I LOVED Jim Croce 's music. I remember having almost every record of his...I have children now and a grandson who LOVE Jim Croce's music also!
A very rare talent ❤

I always love to see the comments about great songs like this one, it’s soul refreshing to read people’s stories
Jim Croce, a talent lost way too soon. I can only imagine if Jim was alive today and what musical contributions he would have given us along the way.
Simplesmente linda! Alguém em 2024?

Oh the seventies...the greatest decade in music!!!
not really.. the 70's gave us disco.. a real blemish on music
An all time great song! Great musicianship! It's still perfect!
Wow, so good on all fronts....fabulous chord progression too.
Sorely missed..RIP all of them
Talented lifes always seem to be for a good time and not a long time. Kind of games God likes to play. Sad for us all. Jim definitely will win in HEAVEN GOT TALENTS show.
Such an amazing voice with a tragic story of his life ending so young. His music is still giving life.
He died at only 30 years old but he looks and seems so much older. His music seems to come from an "older soul" and he looks at least 40 (and I'm not saying that in a bad way!)
@lisalu910 my guess was young 40's... I know what you mean.
I LOVE this song by Jim Croce !!! ❤🧡💛💚💙💜

Sweet music sweet songs sweet memories
Cool to see Jim and Maury playing Ovation accoustics.
i just realized that jim was tuned a whole step up, where Maury was capoed at the second so they could play in key together. That is kinda hard on guitars.....
Invincible with Mark Walberg comes to mind. He did this song my birthyear. GREAT singer!
