Christmas still had a sense of magic in the 70s/80s. That feeling has long gone 😢
i loved it on a snowy christmas day with a roaring coal fire and the excitment was in the air.
"321, do that the wrong way and you could get yourself into a lot of trouble" Classic!
24:06 if only the BBC's Maryam Moshiri had seen this warning!
This is brilliant! I was 10 and remember watching Goldfinger with my Dad on this day :) He took me to see Star Trek The Motion Picture a week later. Thanks Martin for all the happy memories.
How did you cope with Star Trek TMP at 10 years old? I remember being bored brainless. Preferred The Black Hole myself.
@@locutus155 Oh I loved it! Still my favourite of the lot. Mind, loved The Black Hole too.
@@locutus155 If you're in the UK. The Black Hole is on Talking Pictures, tomorrow @ 7.05
@@davidbowie2046 thank you, set up to record.
1979. The George and Mildred episode ‘Twenty six year itch’ was the Christmas special for that year and the last one they made.
Looks more early 80's - those 321 Graphics are a bit advanced plus no flares, no large shirt collars or 70's sidechops/haircuts. The ITN theme disappeared in 1982 after the ITV revamp and the Birth of TV AM. I was a child living in New Cross, South London, it was also the year of Boys from the Blackstuff.
All from 1979. The adverts are from the Bond film Goldfinger on Christmas day that year.I have the video tape here with the recording from all those years ago.
@martinpotter8139 Thanks for that precision , very close to the early 80's 😆 but yes, TV was alright back then. It's good that you, along with many others, have amassed archives over the years that have now been brought back to life. Cheers Martin 👍🏻
Def 78, 79.
spoilsport
Everyone was very well-spoken back then
Rip everyone in these adverts
I'm not bothered weather the adverts are from the 1970s or 80s as both of those decades were better than the 2020s,,
Zanussi: Patrick Murray (Mickey, OFAH) and Gorden Kaye.
Bloody hell! Texaco advert with Michael Crawford, Patricia Hayes and Barry Sheen!!! (Anna Ford 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍)
One spark and the lot would have gone up in the co op ad; polyester everywhere!
Co op was jimmy savills favourite advert
It's st winifreds school choir, your mind must be akin to his to think that.
@@zaftra we all know what jimmy was up to in those days and what was on his mind
@@ianb9842 We know the accusations, what's lacking is any concrete proof. Funny who pans people, legs and co have nothing much to say about him, and Cherry was 16 when she started.
Why you have chosen to bring Jimmy Savile into this is anyone's guess. You can't even spell his name.
The news bit is 1979, some of the earlier bits look like 80 or 81
10:38 Is that Sue Upton from Benny Hill?
4:50: Shweppes ad : Christopher Cazenove.
I remember him from hammer house children of the full moon
10:38 Is that Sue Upton from Benny Hill?
@@wonderrob3225 I would say 'Yes'.
with Annie Lambert.
@martin potter: should’ve just said Christmas day 1979 in the description, instead of 70’s Christmas ads 1970’s! As there are none here from any other year!!!!
This is a good place for a stick up. That's George Raft at the end
Christmas 1979.
Better days.Than now, nicer society not now.
The era of sexism and racism .That's the 70s.
@@LINDSAYWINN better society and people that's the 70s.
@@jamesnicholson2503no it's not.
Waaayyyy better now.
It's Mickey Pearce!
That co-op ad was the worst thing I've seen on TV since I watched those planes crashing in to the World Trade Centre. I remember most of the others though. Thanks for posting.
THE TEXCO AD WITH MICHAEL CRAWFORD WHY DIDN'T HE SHOUT OOOH BETTY? HIM ON THE PEDIGREE CHUM AD LOOKS LIKE HE.S GOT A HEDGEHOG ON HIS HEAD
Because she wasn’t in it!!!!
England made lovely adverts when it made decent things. Ironically, one cannot watch them and reminisce about what is long gone, as they are interrupted by warped imagery trying to sell the latest versions of Alinsky, Piven, Mao, Green and Cloward. Nobody buys it, but that's what they get.
Might be 78 79, and 80s ads
Christmas day 1979.
That Go cat food wasn't there in 1970 . More like the 80s .

Should I be worried I can remember some of those.

Afghanistan were invaded by the USSR on that day.
And eventually the Russians were sent packing ,defeated...👍
There’s always one isn’t there !

This was early 80's
Before the days of George Floyd
Before the days of many things, but there were bad apples in the police barrel even then. A more innocent age perhaps
there were plenty of George Floyds murdered by Uk Police.
the most famous from 1979 being Blair Peach.
00:43 When the coop didn't have to check the WOKE diversity box for their adverts!
They don't HAVE to now either. They do it because they're a progressive modern organisation I'm proud to be an active member of.
Or maybe they could no longer risk an advert with all white faces in it for fear of being branded a racist organisation
Co-op 2023, yes employing a Ghanaian security guard to protect the reduced sandwiches sounds very progressive to me @@rachel.mcgowan
This ITN theme music was rubbish.80s was the best.
1980's more like
Christmas Day 1979.
