Jokes aside, this first meal is a clear example that people are STRUGGLING. Be thankful for what you have and help those you can.
Nah she just not imaginative. It’s not the money it’s what you do with it.
Struggle is ramen
@@stephaniedey4873 even my struggle ramen is seasoned with onion n pepper n some grilled chicken

If you can afford allat you is not on a budget. Lowkey you sound rich to me lmao @@javonjamayal
Can I just say a struggle meal and a meal on a budget are two different things. How I would spend $15 on a meal is different than how I would spend my LAST $15 on a meal. I think that’s where the confusion came in. That rice beans and plantains would gↄ a lot further if you struggling. 😂
Thank you for pointing this out. I was thinking the same thing.
Fr, if I'm on my last $15 then that first meal is gonna get me through the whole week. Not just a single meal
Yes!!!! Totally agree
Yes! My struggle meals usually have some sort of beans because they’re cheap and I can add it to anything
I was thinking that 15 dollars can be a lot of money for one meal, especially if you're cooking for one or two. Also, I would have more vegetables like some greens on that plate.
Y’all would’ve been mad at me when I showed up with a bowl of spaghetti 😂😂😂😂😂😂
STOPP LMAOO
Same
Some spaghetti and butter and garlic ain't never did me wrong
LMAO
Right? 😂 Or straight up elbow macaroni with tomato juice
Makeba's so authentic. I appreciate her honesty.
Definitely a budget meal. And absolutely nothing wrong with it.
I’m shocked no one bust out the ramen with eggs or pot of spaghetti as a struggle meal
I legit would've done a Korean ramen($2-2.50), fried egg, green onions, and maybe a bok choy or green on top. lol
@@kaybarrett I would did chicken spaghetti.
@@keairekemp9013I was thinking doing Haitian spaghetti
frrr
or even grilled cheese and tomato soup?!
The First Lady had a lot of critique for a person whose struggle meal literally says STRUGGLE.
Lmao fr talking bout “flavour profile” with her bland ass rice😭😭
Right! Talkin about flavor when she had NONE. Talkin bout plating when she had NONE. And talkin bout asparagus when she had NONE😭
@@amaraw9893she even called herself a veggie snob when she had no veggies on her plate, help it make sense
Her meal was the only one I had thought was a struggle meal. When I clicked the video I was thinking about the times I was tempted to eat cereal with water cause I had no milk. My struggle meals would have been like 50 cent noodle packets or hot dog or chicken noodle soup with shredded chicken in it, dirt cheap stuff. But it looks like $15 a plate is budget to them. That's balling
The point is to critique. Even if she just put butter on bread and called that her meal, that don't mean she can't critique something else.
The first girl won. Her meal an actual struggle meal. A mix of things you probably have on hand already too
Yeah sometimes you dont have meat and the beans have protein so its a good alternative to meat.
it was budget, not struggle they gave her a whole 15 dollars 😭
I like the girl that knew she wasn’t going to win but was also honest with everyone else dishes
If 15 dollars is a struggle meal then I’ve been struggling my whole life
😆😆
😂
Yeah you could a nice meal at a lot of places for $15.00
fr i get takeout for like $15 and that'll last me like 2 seperate meals 😭home cooked food is even cheaper for me
REAL i regularly spend $40/week on groceries including water bottles toilet paper etc. Lowest was $27. 5 home cooked meals
I lost it when they said $15. most of my meals are under $3 per serving
We need a $5 dollar meal. That’s struggle for real. $15 I can still grab chipotle or something and have some left over😂
Thank you. I can really feed 3-4 with $15
Frlll $5 or under! Make it happen 😭👏
I used to make a tuna pasta w garlic, spaghetti noodles, butter (lets be honest, margarine) and frozen/canned peas. It was actually so good, I spread it across three to four meals (or could feed four people if you get two cans instead of one).
baked potatooo
soooo real for this
I appreciate the honesty of the rice, beans, and plantain. That is a real meal I have had many times. Sometimes, you add an egg. You can add hot sauce, if you have it, and keep that bean broth. Others hating on that meal came off as privileged and we had to stop watching. Rice, beans, and plantains wins!
I know you don't wanna buy ketchup and other sauces in stores 🏪 as a budget person
But.......................... fast food restaurants giveaway FREE ketchup and other sauce packets 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Too be honest I felt bad when they were hating at it I had this meal but I did have egg and some meat with it but if you don't have meat it's fine with just an egg
The first lady is the only one who understood “struggle” meal. Respect because that’s a real struggle meal. I will say she could’ve put some sliced hot dogs in her beans to make it better for like $1 more.
It was supposed to be a budget meal not a struggle meal
No difference in budget & struggle @@likklemiss5286
I feel like Makeba was the only one who followed directions and made a "struggle meal" .
Nah, they asked for budget not struggle meal. I respect what Makeba brought but she was def not the only one who followed the instructions. A budget meal stays withing the amount given, struggle meal is use whatever you got left in the house😭
they said "budget" not struggle. How are you going to use quotation marks and not use them correctly??
@@paigew6707yes 😂😂 I came here to say the same thing. It says budget not struggle
You can’t follow directions either
they said “budget” not “struggle”.🧍🏾♀️
Queen and Kayline ain't ever struggled. Makeba has been through it. She's the only one that created a struggle meal and I appreciate how real it was. You're not trying to be fancy you're trying to survive. Therefore the goal is to be dirt cheap and to stretch. Makeba's did that. The sauce is the ketchup in your fridge, the beans are the cheapest form of protein, the plantain is cheap, filling and satisfying and the rice carries it. You still have money left over in case, and you can safely eat that meal all week till payday. The other two however were showing us $15 meals. She critiqued the way she did cause she knew that someone who struggled the way she did would have come a lot better if they had $15 to make one meal, for one person, for one day. Neither of them milked that money for what it's worth, talking bout chicken fillet, precut bell peppers and almond milk. Y'all better leave Makeba alone, she was spot on. $15 for one meal and you don't even have greens, wheel and come again.
the problem is she made a struggle meal not a budgets meal😭. she did a different assignment
@@jmar0320thank you people don’t know the difference between struggle and budget. Obviously the goal is to buy ingredients within the budget and make a dish with them. Never said it had to be struggle meal 🙄
@@ihearts3495 exactly they gave 15 dollars for a reason😂😭
Keyword "budget", so she ain't follow directions. Yea she struggled blah blah, like that's a prize or sum.. But they literally gave them a budget for a budget meal. Struggling is using half to save the other half. A budget is what you have to use and she should've used it.. Sooooo
The bell peppers and boneless skinless chicken breast had me like 🤨
My favorite budget meal that last for about 3 days with me and my daughter
A rotisserie chicken: $7
Alfredo sauce:$4
Alfredo noodles: $3
Frozen broccoli $3
Boom!! Under $20
my mom used to get us rotisserie chicken and some break and we would make like two days of sandwiches and eat some and store the rest between the days and it was very nice

yeah but then she just bi$£ed about a food she never tried before and barely ate it.
Took me clean out
I don't understand what it means/why she would say that 😭
I appreciate Makeba's honesty with her meal. It's definitely a budget meal. I've had simple meals like this before.
me too because I believe hers was truly struggle meal/budget. you can tell that it took a short time to cook and was cheap. I've had tons of meals where I didn't add any seasoning because I was just cooking for myself and I didn't have time to be marinating and coating and all that stuff because I was focused on getting myself fed no matter what taste it had 😂 I don't understand how that is percieved as "white" but to each their own 🤷🏽
@@YALLDONTNEEDTOKNOW Wasn't the shepherd's pie the "white" dish?
Only one of these is a budget meal, but it could have been done better. Onions, chilies and pork neck bones are super cheap.
@@happypenguin25 one of the ladies said that because the rice and beans and stuff had no seasoning that if this wasn't the cocoa butter channel she would of thought a white person made the dish
Yeah I respect her Struggle meal most. In college my struggle meal was Kraft mac and cheese with imitation crab meat. It use to cost all of $5 to make lol.
Whoever said there is a difference between a $15 meal and your LAST $15 did not lie. You can tell who had a lil stuggle and who did a lil cos play struggle but I support everyone lol.

Literally enough money for Chipotle and a drink !

YES!!!!
I literally left a similar comment on another one of their videos.
I was saying how so many people say the food doesn't taste right-- but is it actually being served hot as it's intended to be or is it being served cold or room temperature?
There are so many dishes that if you don't serve them hot it literally changes the flavor of of the food and the food doesn't taste as good.
Kayline’s weekly budget is $350?!!!!
Me: (submits resume to Buzzfeed/Coca Butter)
Nm wtf she really does spend 350 a week. That's crazy you could eat out every meal with that money in a decent resteraunt
It’s probably groceries and take out not that hard to spend that much on food 😭😭😭
Maybe she could eat out once or twice a day in a decent like chilis/Fridays/Applebees type restaurant. 350/7 is $50 a day. You go to chilis/Applebees that’s 20-25 bucks each time. But she could definitely go to the store and get high quality beef, chicken, and fish and some good sides and good deserts for way under $50/day.
its all about how you prioritize! 😂
I used to spend $350 a week during the pandemic shiiiiid. But then again it’s a household of 6 I’m feeding so 😂😂😂😂
As a Mexican- my struggle meals are picadillo or enfrijoladas 😋
I have to say that the first dish was actually much more a budget meal imo. They didn't use expensive seasonings(if any), probably the bare minimum amount of cooking oil and included a low cost protein (beans). I thought that they were on point with keeping it low and nutritious regardless if it was lacking flavor. I don't think $15 is a budget meal either. The first meal bought things that'll last a few days versus spending a whole $15 on a singular portion.
$350 in groceries for the week is crazy I wanna see that haul 😂😂😂
That’s my grocery budget for the month too lol
The person said it’s their weekly budget 🤔
Right? I can't even imagine what she's buying because my partner and I spend about 120-200 per week for the both of us and our 5 pets.
Yea, that’s quite the budget.
That’s more than I spend for my family of five!

$15 for a struggle meal?!?! There’s sooooo much stuff you can make with $15 lmao I’d dream of doing something like this

Facts! lol. With $15 I can make that meal stretch for 3-4 days lol
bruh i can buy a whole week's grocery for $15! if I hit dollar tree, I can get a full loaf of bread, 6 eggs, milk, pasta, beans, rice, pancake mix, oatmeal and sooo much more jeez. I can cook WELL with $15. a budget meals budge should've been 2-5$ maxx smh
Makeba repeatedly talking about flavor with the other dishes had me weak😭😭 then she said she would switch out the chicken w the yellow rice with BEANS LMAOO
I think she really likes beans😂
🤣 Right! Her meal had no flavor, talking about switching chicken for beans, and why didn't she get asparagus with her extra $6, since she was critiquing so hard 😂😂😂
She made a struggle meal, the other two made a budget meal. ie Makeba acted like she was down to her last $15, while the others acted like they budgeted $15 for a meal. Bingo 😂😂 spaghetti or some ramen noodles
I would've definitely gone for some pasta too because of it's versatility. Grab some cherry tomatoes, some spinach, garlic, onion - baby, you got a stew going!
For sure
as a single mom, I've lived on rice and beans before. BUT! I always added simple cheap things like onions, green peppers, cheap hot dogs, or just buillion cubes to make it taste as good as I could. And then, I'd switch up the beans-- make red beans n rice, hoppin john, bean curry, etc to keep things a little interesting.

My great grandmother immigrated from Ireland to the US and she made Shepherds pie, quite often and traditionally a Shepards pie is made with ground lamb, ground beef, vegetables including peas, covered in a brown gravy and topped with rich, buttery mashed potatoes however I would love to try this beautiful womans version of Shepard's pie because ground turkey woukd probably be very good and her presentation despite having to spend only 15 dollars, was excellent. But again… if you struggling, you’re eating more beans than meat.. j/s…
If you’re struggling you can eat more beans per price of meat. It’s common sense, the difference is the interpretation of budget meal. 15$ is not a budget meal, that’s just a meal, expensive too if you’re not using ingredients from home, like rice and beans.
Quick struggle/budget meals that you can stretch for a while and wont be too hard on the tongue= meat sauce (pasta sauce+ ground beef) and a carb (rice, pasta, bread if you have to lol). Ramen+egg and sausage if you have it. Hamburger helper casserole (basically make it, then bake it with shredded cheese and breadcrumbs on top). And you can finesse any of those box meals into something decent with some seasoning and cheese tbh lol.
This was hilarious! 😂😂😂😂 “I’m allergic to beans.” WHAT LMAO
My struggle meal is either a bowl of cereal or a Ramen. If I feel like it I'd just make a sandwich.
I also think that a good struggle meal or budget meal means buying things that you can use again that week like that bag of rice or potatoes. Mashed potatoes Monday for dinner, roasted potatoes Wednesday morning and again that night etc.
The $6.30 with the handclap had me
Okay so for me personally, assuming I have seasonings already I get a case of ramen and some ramen toppings so I can switch it up and try a different kind of ramen throughout the week. Because of how many ways you can eat ramen I feel like on a struggle week itd be a cool lil plan and a chance to try sum new flavors
Makeba was just there to eat and I aint mad at it.

$15 doesn't seem like a budget for a single person. I could make a ribeye and baked potato for $15. I also wouldn't count the cost of a whole bag of rice, or beans, just what you used. My budget meal is rice, eggs, breakfast sausage. About $3/person.
Prices vary upon location. A $15 meal where they are may equal a $5 where you are. Real variables to consider, cost of living etc.
I can't even buy a rib eye without paying less than 15 lol
@@DeityLover Ribeye is about $25/lb. Go to the butcher counter and ask them for a 4oz cut, it's around $6.50. Have to know how to get what you want and not buy the only thing the store offers. @@andreablossom3929 Because it's originally a british/french meal.
The convo on budgeting was so relatable!
I love the way she has those colorful beads like bangs ❤. Doesnt hurt she has a glowing personality to go with that unique style.
That shepherd's pie looked great.
For $15, I’m going to Trader Joe’s for a pound of 80/20 ground beef and Wegman for some Francesco Rinaldi pasta sauce, Barilla pasta, a yellow onion and a clove of garlic.
Boom! Got your cheap meal 😊
Used canned tomatoes and make your own sauce and you can get some cheese too 😆
@@LG_Hakubi I’ve never tried it with cheese but I do need to make it homage one day! 😌
@@laranini9660 yuuup Like sometimes I do this not even on a budget but because its quick. I'll do meatless too, and sometimes throw in a veggie
Mozzarella is a good cheese, esp if you have little ones, and melts well. Parm adds salt and flavor without it getting "cheesy" - but its so simple you can toss anything in it really.
@@LG_Hakubi I definitely have to try it, thanks for the recommendation. I love mozzarella cheese too, but can’t eat it too much sadly.
Whoever edits cocoa butter videos is that good
I'm shook at how cheap this all was. Their budget meals in canada would probably cost $50 right now 😭
My favorite budget meal is usually a soup, like a nice lentil soup or escarole and bean soup...I can easily make a huge pot for $5 or less and can last days...the brothier the better!
“I knew she was being cheap bc she barely put meat” 😂
“The vegitables are frozen…mind your business!”😂😂😂😂
I like that y’all added the recipe
I loved the first dish!! A struggle meal, truly is just that. A meal with whatever you have left in your cupboards/pantry. It's not meant to be fancy, it's meant to be edible.
Makeba is definitely trolling with that plate. She can't be serious 😂😂😂
ran off w $8 she dead df serious 😭
A good one is a packet or 2 of starkist tuna on a tortilla with a little cheese and toasted. Also good for hitting protein goals 💪🏽
As long as I can use my own seasoning I already have I’d kill this challenge
How is Rice and Beans girl bold enough to critique ANYTHING?? Lawd, our people🤣
She made a struggle meal, the other two made a budget meal. ie Makeba acted like she was down to her last $15, while the others acted like they budgeted $15 for a meal. The commentary ought to be different. Had the others made struggle meals too, I don't think she would've critiqued the way she did.
"We need to be fed correctly!" I died when Queen said that.
Omg I loved her saying that 😅😅😅
😂😂😂 My good weeks is what paid for the spices in my cabinet so that my bad weeks would have some kick.
That’s how I did it. I use to feed my plus my wife and 2 kids on $20 or less for a whole week. 😂😂😂 Cabbage was CHEAP.
I use to buy 10 pounds of chicken for $7. I did 99% of the cooking and my wife did 99% of the heating up leftovers back then.
😂😂😂 Every week there was a 90% chance we were eating 2-3 different kinds of chicken (fried, baked or grilled) and fried cabbage, rice and cornbread. A bag of potatoes goes a long way too (fried, soup, mashed and fried tater cakes from leftover mashed potatoes).
If I may share something , me and my husband split the groceries per month that comes to 223 usd dollars and we still have plenty food to make meals from even after . I found 15 usd per meal a lot . And even when we were financially tight , we were able to manage .
