I watched a video that told me to cut the new growth in the first year clearly they had no idea what they were talking about

Any experts I have consulted, recommend leaving new growth to send strength to the roots. That's the advice that I followed and it worked well for me.

Good video. Do they spread out with time or just give 1 asparagus per plant? 😅 when is best to plant? Early spring or fall?

I would plant in the early spring. Over time, the asparagus will definitely spread, giving multiple spears per plant.

I wish I had watched this before I planted my store bought asparagus roots. I left the crown sticking out of the soil. I don't think any of them survived. Good thing there was a pre-existing patch already growing when we moved on to our place. Thanks for the video, I learned a few things about growing asparagus.

I’m glad you enjoyed the video. Sorry about the bad luck you had with your asparagus. Strawberry crowns like to be on the surface but not asparagus. You’ll have to give it another try. 😀
