- When it comes to Dragon Ball figures, no one does better than Bandai Japan. However, sometimes they release a dud as we saw with the recent Piccolo. Will this one make up for the misstep or are we in for another disappointing release?

the guy who sculpted jiren really loves the character and probably was pressured to do a better job because bandai knows jiren's a harder sell than piccolo, which they can make a mess of and still sell boatloads.
That was my thought too. Currently I have a knock off 1.0 Piccolo & a statue of Saiyan Saga Gohan that hide in the back of my display. So of course I want to get both of these new releases but they look disappointing.

UI Goku is alright, seeing a new form for Goku is always hype but expected. Seeing Vegeta go into Royal Blue against Toppo was super hype lmao.

By the amount of Piccolo comments here you'd think it was a revew for that figure.
Someone pissed him off I guess. I kinda got disappointed hearing piccolo 63 times. I'm here for Jiren lol.
I think it's worth noting that even though the original Jiren figure wears a skin tight muscle suit and they could have gotten away with a simple repaint for this, the entire upper body of this one is a new sculpt to account for the increase in bulk. Jiren has a simple design but I've always thought it was a good design, and I think his two figuarts really nail it.
Edit: Also, Ultra Instinct is way cooler and more unique than Blue-Evolved, though I like both.

@@dankerbell Yes. Every transformation from Super is lazy design wise. Just recolors. SS1, SS3 and SS4 are the only transformations that were unique. Like, it changes something else apart from the hair dye. The rest are recolors. This is coming from someone that actually likes Super.
Bandai always go cheap with figures they know are going to sell well. This Jiren is an example of how good they could be doing all the figures

Ultra Instinct Goku is iconic but Vegeta’s new blue transformation was badass especially against Toppo’s god transformation. Great review btw! Been waiting for this one

Since Piccolo is one of my fav characters, seeing how good this figure looks just makes me bitter about Piccolo.
If they at least got Piccolo’s head sculpt right I wouldn’t be as bitter, but this figure has such a great head sculpt and paint, and even all the alt heads have great paint/sculpt! Come on, Bandai!
Piccolo's face gave me more Dende vibes than Nail, but either way it didn't look like Piccolo.

The angry piccolo face that was looking to the side to me looked like how he was drawn in the original dragonball, probably not what they were supposed to go for though

FTR, dunno about anyone else, but I for one wasnt "justifying" anything with Piccolo, I was stating facts with how he looks. He matches pretty well with how he looks in the Saiyan/Namek saga. I know he has issues, but his sculpt isnt one of them.
Also, Nail and Piccolo look the same, they were drawn almost identically in the anime.

@@AnthonysCustoms Look, im not trying to start an argument, but its pretty obvious Toriyama used Piccolos design in the Namek saga as the base for Nail, and as we know, Toriyama was very lazy and tended to reuse designs alot in his work, all you need to do is look at comparison shots. Obviously they dont wear the same clothes, thats not what im getting at; I mean his face, height and build are literally identical. The wiki has some good shots of him aswell as a manga shot of Piccolo and Nail next to each other. Even the games reuse Piccolos face for Nail. Its honestly undeniable, sorry lol.
People defend piccolo as a coping mechanism to rationalize that its not so bad and avoid buyer's remorse. I am still getting mine and probably keeping the turban on until 3.0 comes out... but I just can't get over the pink lips...

Blue Evolved (tho personally I like the 'Royal Blue' fan name more) was way cooler than MUI and I really hope we get to see a Figuarts of him at some point in the future (because he does have a bulkier build + spikier hair similar to his Super Vegeta state from the Cell saga so it shouldn't just be a repaint of Blue).
Literally just ordered this figure yesterday, not even the biggest fan of Jiren but this figure is up there with the Broly and Super Buu
Not quite there yet Ultra stink Goku and MUI were better than Dark Blue Vegeta imo for the music, animation, the fights and probably my Goku bias

Blue evolved as vegeta's thing is one of the best things super has done but nothing tops the almighty and condescending aura that exudes from ultra instinct its the peak of super

I feel like this is the last figure they’ve pulled off flawlessly. Vegito, piccolo & the new kid gohan are all pretty disappointing. I hope the rest of the ginyu force are on the same level of captain ginyu in terms of quality.

@@chimichangatakeout3551 I’m not someone who reviews or looks at figures at the depth that Anthony does, but Vegetto’s biggest issue for me is his neck. It’s obvious that the head wasn’t made deep enough, and it results in a lanky neck. Also, I was quite disappointed by the lack of crossed arms and alternative forms. There’s no reason they couldn’t have included his normal hair with him, plus, it’s Vegetto, crossed arms are his thing. I might be nitpicking, but it could have been a much better release. I still like the figure, but it’s got problems.

I had Jiren and Piccolo on pre-order, Jiren actually arrived a couple weeks ago, and I cancelled my Piccolo order based on your review. Real happy with the way that played out, I adore this figure and I think I would have really been let down with the green man.
Honestly I never really got into the anime (though I plan on changing that soon), but I started in on the Figuarts line late last year because I really like a lot of Dragon Ball character designs and you’re videos have always made this seem like a really fun line (your Super Buu vid is what pushed me into my first DB purchase), so I pretty much buy based off of aesthetic preferences and quality of the figures themselves. You’re reviews have been extraordinarily helpful for navigating that second part, so thanks for the continued great content.
Man are you in for a ride I recommend you start with dbz kai as the original english dub of z has not aged all that well imo then if you like that give the original dragonball a shot it's different than z but it's really damn good. Then there's super and GT super Is pretty decent and GT despite some cool villan designs/concepts and super sayain 4 is a pretty rough show to get through imo anyways enjoy it's a fun ride.

I believe the official name given to that new Vegeta form is “Super Saiyan Blue Evolved.” But true fans know that it’s really called “Royal Blue” since its exclusive to The Prince. 😎
i mean even if it was, royal blue is actually a pretty light blue so it makes no sense. also evolution i think sounds better
Vegeta's form is called Blue Evolution but the fan name for it that was used before it had an official name was Royal Blue which is SO much better
The left leg on mine was a loose mess out of the package. Otherwise, it’s one of my favorite from this year.

yeah i'm with you, SSBE (Super Saiyan Blue Evolution) Vegeta i prefer over UI Goku, but at the same time i always prefered Vegeta over Goku anyways, so i guess i'm biased lol

Friendship ended with Piccolo, Jiren is my new best friend - Anthony probably.
As for Ultra Stink vs Super Saiyan Bluer, I actually like both a lot as functionally its cool since Ultra instinct isn't only a power boost and gives Goku a new power to work with and he uses it with so much style (Though I prefer the design of the Imperfect UI more so than the Silver haired version). Super Saiyan Blue Evolution is cool in other ways, like narratively how Vegeta is finally done trying to play catch up with Goku and just invented his own transformation to do it instead of just learning UI, I also like how design wise Vegeta took his blue form and mashed it together with his Super Vegeta beefy transformation from the Cell saga to make a nice call back. So maybe Ill pick UI for the wow factor and Bluer for story wise.

I can see why Anthony is upset with the Piccolo figure. I was too when I saw his face sculpts and then when I saw how glossy his body is. It's like they knew Piccolo would sell so they just barely put any effort in him. He was the figure I was looking forward to this year and it's disappointing. I'm still getting him, but I'm just going to keep him in his cape and turban.

It’s a damn shame what they did with the new Piccollo. It like sometimes they just straight do not care.

It has something to do with the materials.. This shinning plastic or whatever is called works better for articulation

The torso and left hip are a bit loose on mine. Ultra Instinct is more powerful, but "Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan Evolution" (that's the actual name O.O) is great because it finally gives Vegeta a unique form of Super Saiyan beyond any Super Saiyan form Goku has unlocked. I like Blue Evolution slightly more do to its uniqueness.

Idont care about the dark blue vegeta. So little difference with thw regular ss blue. It's basically just a power up where vegeta moves faster and hits harder
Vegeta's dark blue hair is called "Super Saiyan Blue Evolved". Its as strong as Goku's "Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan Kaioken X20".
Also you kept calling Goku's white hair form "Super stinct". The white hair is acctually called "Mastered Ultra Instinct, or MUI for short".

Vegetas form was more unexpected so it was really cool but I prefer the auto dodging and attacking aspect of UI it’s not just a power up with the form
The only thing I really dont like is that terrible waist articulation. It doesn't move at all on mine
