Bank Ottoman | Բանկ Օտոման

Following the Hamidian Massacres of 1894, Armenian Revolutionaries, led by Babken Syuni and Armen Garo, would capture the Ottoman Bank in Constantinople on August 14, 1896 along with 26 other men to gain the attention of the European powers. They demanded reforms be done for the betterment of the Armenians in the Empire or else they would set off a bomb in the bank. The Russian embassy would guarantee that they would influence the Sultan's government and implement these reforms, as well as promise to ensure their safe departure. After a 13 hour standoff, the men would leave the bank and take a ship provided by the French to Marseille. However during the whole event, massacres and pogroms started in the city and some 6,000 Armenians were massacred.
