You are so right' no matter what he is in, from Frankenstein to any movie' he's in, like the other veil show where the brother sees someone shoot his brother (in a premonition) while he was out to Sea . Boris w meas funny in that one he was playing a constable oh man you got to see it, he was great in it makes you love him even more.
Let's hear it for the wonderful Boris Karloff, the interesting and obscure tv series we never got to see, and the dear uploader who made the viewing possible...Hip Hip Hooray!
Just goes to show you that studios probably have real gems of series laying waste in their vaults that won't see the light of day for years to come. It's to bad that series are just tossed in a back room and forgotten. Thanks for finding this one.
And there are a few more television gems still (sadly) lurking about in their vault , two that come to mind ... "Target" 1958 which was a horror suspense Anthology series which had an abundance of great character actors and actresses, and the other being "Great Ghost Tales" 1961 ... not for nothing but I believe that the latter GGT is on D.V.D. now 😃 after all these decades in their vault 👌🏻
I have seen a few good pilot episodes like this show but most were pretty lame but it also takes a new show time to jell.the 1st few episodes of bonanza the cartwrights were over the top and had very little chemistry.
PizzaFlix, you deserve a medal for distributing worthwhile movies and TV series!! Thank you for uploading this mini-series, and with such a nice crisp picture. You've done it again! Enjoyable episode.
A great series, Thankyou for sharing. Several family's I've known, have been disrupted by "last will & testement" of a deceased - one family went so far as to change their sons will, which repayed debts the son owed privately, for an overly compassionate neighbour, who did what the parents should have. Shame that sort of thing happens - still, today sadly.
Wikipedia: The Veil is an American horror/supernatural anthology television series hosted by and starring Boris Karloff and produced in 1958 by Hal Roach Studios, very similar to Alcoa Presents: One Step Beyond. Production was abandoned after ten episodes had been made, which were never broadcast or shown in syndication in their original format. However the episodes were compiled into three feature-length anthologies which were broadcast in the late 1960s. The original episodes have subseqently been released on DVD.
Another good story. Moral: Be a good son or daughter and you will have less problems with your parents in old age. Yes I know, some parents are less deserving.
Funny, my only association with "Alcoa presents..." was "...Fantastic Finishes", last-seconds comebacks that aired during the two-minute warning commercial break on NFL games back around 1981. Hadn't known they'd been at it for so long.
Here in Argentina the will goes as follows: when parents die the state is divided equally between all siblings. If the parents or marriage don't have children the estate goes to nephews in equal amount. No one gets more than the others.
This was/is a great series, well made. It's a pity it aborted without being sold. So much junk succeeds and this good stuff disappeared for decades, actually half a century or so. One wonders how the episodes influenced "One Step Beyond." There must have been some grapevine knowledge of the narratives, style, etc. despite the fact they were never broadcast. I think Rod Serling phoned John Newland advising him that he was involved in a series that might overlap with t he One Step Beyond series. In fact, Serling interposed himself in the stories the same way Newland did in Beyond, so there was obviously influence there.
I’m dying to know more about the andirons that are used in the roaring fire seen over Karloff’s shoulder. It appears that a black rectangle has been discreetly inserted digitally to hide part of the sculpture. Does anyone have information?
Those andirons also piqued my interest. I am no expert, but the andiron on the right side of the fireplace (just to the left of the seated Mr. Karloff with its hand extended towards the actor) appears to be wearing a forward-curving, Greek plumed helmet which is a feature on many ancient images, including those of the Roman god Mars (Greek styles persisted in Roman times). Mars was infamous for his dalliances with Venus, Vulcan’s wife, but eventually their adultery was “forgotten” in popular thought, and the two became symbols of passionate companionship, even within marriage. I’m guessing this is why old andiron sets for the home sometimes depicted Mars on one andiron with Venus on the other. My guess is that the andiron on the right side of the fireplace is Mars and the one on the left, which we see briefly in the opening shot of the show when Mr. Karloff stands up, is Venus. As a side note, Mars and Venus standing in silhouette before roaring flames is visually intriguing in view of Venus’s husband, Vulcan, being the god of fire.
This kinda reminds me of a true story, an actual crime story. 3 brothers, but one had a learning disability if I'm not mistaken & wasn't concerned with a farm. But of the other 2, the one without the farm living in California drove all the way non stop & killed his brother, sister n law, & their kids. Just for the farm. He didn't think the police would be able to piece everything together bc he lived in Cali & his hometown was I think 2 or 3 day drive away.
How could the mother take Jamie's side?! He's vile and obnoxious, comes across as a small-time crook, perhaps even a gambler and womanizer, and has a violent temper. I am glad the older brother got the farm eventually.
Odd this series never aired as the shorter format makes it tighter and more entertaining than Thriller. Don't get me wrong I like Thriller and the 1hr season of TZ but they have too much filler to pad out the run time.
Q: PizzaFlix, why didn't they air this series? I think it's much better than the other series Karloff made. Forgot the name of the other... the beginning had a spider web in the intro?
From back in the days when women weren't allowed to own property. If he'd been able to leave everything to his wife, the problem of the sons' inheritance wouldn't have been an issue.
TERRIBLE PLOT! Hid the later will in the bible but didn't give it to the wife or Johnny or the lawyer, which would've avoided the entire mess. Also, the younger son was away for 10 years so at what point did the father give him the will? Love the old aethetic as well as the calm judge. Johnny reminds me of Dexter.
Seems quite clear that much could have been avoided IF Johnny had shown some Gumpsion and taken a much better 'hands-on' approach over the Estate, BEFORE the reading of the Will instead of just sitting back at the kitchen table...lol....a Dull farm boy he be...

2020, virus ridden UK, and this is better than anything else, classed as entertainment.

Cool lamps!!
Wth was wrong with tv not picking this series up! Unbelievable!
Wow, i'm surprised he didn't leave the farm to the wife.
Very similar to "Alcoa Presents ( aka one step beyond). Even down to the music at the end. Perhaps that's why it beef aired. Thanks for posting.
Funny, my only association with "Alcoa presents..." was "...Fantastic Finishes", last-seconds comebacks that aired during the two-minute warning commercial break on NFL games back around 1981. Hadn't known they'd been at it for so long.
Where there is a WILL, there is a WEIGH.
Here in Argentina the will goes as follows: when parents die the state is divided equally between all siblings. If the parents or marriage don't have children the estate goes to nephews in equal amount. No one gets more than the others.
Morris ankrum was also a judge on numerous perry Mason episodes.
What an evil brother!!!
Johnny's a cutie pie! He reminds me of Vincent D'nofrio from Law and Order, Criminal Intent. Thanx Pizza Man!! 😍

The event is dramatized on A Crime to Remember
Right good stuff!😐🤔

I was really pissed off too on her! Wtfff mother is that?!?
Very good drama shame today's actors have to live on past education so they can earn some money. Many thanks Parma

BK was. Actually a handsome man!
From back in the days when women weren't allowed to own property. If he'd been able to leave everything to his wife, the problem of the sons' inheritance wouldn't have been an issue.
Women could own property since 1848. This was post 1898.
Is this really historical as Boris implies?
Back then, women didn't have rights. This a classic example, leaving the farm to his son instead of the wife.
TERRIBLE PLOT! Hid the later will in the bible but didn't give it to the wife or Johnny or the lawyer, which would've avoided the entire mess.
