    Please do not compare this unit to a sol ark. Just read some comments below doing just that. Sol ark is 5X the cost and is a hybrid inverter. Not a purely grid tie inverter. This unit should be compared to comparably sized enphase or solar edge grid tie inverters. Not a sol ark.
    And growatt is bigger than most realize. They are UL certified and some are listed units. I can discuss further the differences, but don't let the price fool you. And neither growatt or signature solar paid me to say this and I'm not on contract with anyone. Don't listen to UA-camrs and do your own research about each company I mention.

    I have one of these systems installed on our house here Florida, when hurricane IRMA came through it was easy to trick the system online by disconnecting the main breaker on the house, then flip over to the generator input and use the generator as the source for the solar system to work. It basically idled the generator in fuel saver mode using barely any fuel while solar was available, but partially used the generator during periods of cloud cover and such. This setup is far cheaper to maintain compared to solar battery setups because we didn't have to invest in a large battery bank and solar charge controllers to store battery power, we just purchased a good quality generator instead.

    • @CaptBill69
      @CaptBill69 2 роки тому +2

      Very nice way to be prepared. !!!... Just wondering: Do you have this set up as grid tied in Florida, for putting excess PV electricity into your grid when the sun is shining, and see an accounting of that on your utility bill? If so, I would love to hear about the hoop jumps :+) ... I know my California State has too many hoop jumps to allow this one; while (I thin) requiring maximizers or mini inverters that can turn off all solar panel voltage on utility command, and for firefighter protection when there is a house fire.

    • @williamhustonrn6160
      @williamhustonrn6160 2 роки тому +18

      @@CaptBill69 I personally didn't deal with the actions and loopholes getting the initial system online and the only month I have ever seen a credit on my account was the first months when the house was still being finalized and I was not fully moved into yet. The builder installed the bare minimum setup with only a pair of solar panels on the roof, but I accounted in the electrical wiring for future upgrades, because I didn't have the funds to fully fund it all at first and just wanted them to install the initial setup with 800 watts of solar on a 6kw 240v grid tied setup. The rest of our solar system never made it ontop of the house as I didn't feel comfortable adding them to the new roof myself, so I ground mounted them on bracing and pole system. In my area when I did get the credits, I was only credited $0.01/kw, so it was not worth my effort to add more solar than my production, so I just kept adding solar panels over time until I nearly brought my bill down to the bare minimum. In my area we have staged tiers of electrical use, the first tier is the cheapest, so my aim was to maintain our monthly bill within this tier to get the most benefit out of it.

    • @CaptBill69
      @CaptBill69 2 роки тому +1

      @@williamhustonrn6160 ... Thank you for the details. Re: your "... only credited $0.01/kw" get changed to encourage more solar. IMO: That is sign of those in power discouraging solar, and/or afraid of loosing their monopoly like powers (combined with their view of challenge to deal with grid swings (like after the sun goes down). I am looking forward to seeing more edgenuity in these lines of less expensive All In One Options. This one you have looks like a tech jump up from many of the others from my view.

      @williamhustonrn6160 2 роки тому +10

      @@CaptBill69 Not a problem, i understand there are hurdles and loops when trying to get solar hooked up in all areas, that is why I had the professionals take the stress of getting it setup and installed to code and standards. My plan from the start was hookup the bare minimal PV input voltage the solar system would run on, then oversize the inverter and wiring for easy upgradability going forward, because the headache is all in getting the initial system installed, upgrading from there is stressfree. I had experience with an off grid solar system prior to the grid-tied and had all kinds of headaches with a MAJOR battery manufacture that this channel even highly praises with multiple failed units in under 2 years, but I am leaving out the manufacture to not muddy up this conversation. I just knew I didn't want to go down that route again and deal with batteries again at this current time, my need for offgrid use is purely only needed maybe a few days a year, its more of luxury to not have to worry about loosing power when the rest of the grid goes down, my main goal in all of this was to offset my electric bill and hopely have a near zero bill in the near future once the system paid for itself. Well myself not only did this, I reduced my normal monthly bill and earned back what I had in the system in 26 months by going from a normal $400+/month bill to now my average bill runs between $35-45, because the minimum fee to have the grid still hooked up is $35/month. I only installed enough solar to reduce my bill as close to 0 as possible, because when I learned how little I get back in credit, it just was not worth my effort and time building anything larger. Plus a major savings was doing the addon of additional solar myself.

    The ETL listing will work in lieu of UL listing. Thats what Sol-Ark and others have. The thing to look for is Rule 21 for California. Even at that it would make a good replacement unit in California for older SMA's and others

      Mendo is correct. The code only can specify that a nationally recognized testing laboratory (NRTL) be used to list a product. ETL is a NRTL. You will have no problems connecting this in jurisdictions following the NEC.

    Not sure if it’s possible but could you make a video using this grid tie unit in combination with an off grid unit? Let’s say the spf 3000tl lvm-24p. Love the 3000tl unit but the max 2000 watts is very limited. I know you can parallel it with another unit for 750 more but I think it would be more economical to add this grid tie unit and double the solar input. Would love to see this in a video. Most economical way to have 5000+ watt system with out multiple units or 48v systems.

    It’s getting to the point in some areas it’s better to be off grid. The utilities only take when they need it since they have control now on recent approved grid tie systems . They also regulate how much solar and where it’s placed. A friend has had it with the permit process because of time, inept inspectors(they don’t know the rules and want to break them), and changing their minds after the permit was granted so he has to “eat” the changes. He now only does off grid and possibly a transfer switch depending on county.

    Unfortunately in California we have to use UL1741 SA (otherwise know as Rule 21) grid-tie compliant inverters. Rule 21 basically requires the inverter to be capable of riding through grid excursions or even actively managing grid reliability functions via a communications protocol that the utilities can use to directly interact with the inverter. Interestingly, the standard is still in development yet somehow the manufacturers are supposed to know in advance how to design the inverters to be fully compliant sometime in the future. Go Figure.

      Yes, I do have my GroWatt MIN 6000TL-X functioning. What I did was put on a load breaker box. I have 2 double pole breakers in it. One is a 50amp (this goes to the main panel in the garage red, black, white, ground) and the other is a 20amp. I used romex orange 10/2 awg solid wire. I hooked the black up to one side of the breaker and the white to the other side (I wrapped some black tape on the white wire to indicate a hot wire). So I have 120+120=240 volts. I hooked up the 3rd wire to the neutral bar inside the box.
      On the Min 6000TL-X ac in I connected the black to L the white to L2 and the 3rd wire to the Neutral. The power ac in on the Min 6000 is a 3 wire connector. I looked at this connector for markings as to where to put the wires. The connector used really small screws. The markings are also small. I thought I took a picture of it however can not find it now.
      I looked at the users manual at the ac picture. Does not explain much.
      Did not get any help from Signature Solar when I asked for help. I even asked if they would do a video on install the MIN 6000TL-X.
      I have 3000 watts of solar panels also connected.

    Why not hook this unit up as a grid input to one of your hybrid inverters? Mount it, wire up some panels (like you said - in a single string) and then connect the AC output to the Grid input of one of your hybrid inverters. Wouldn't that work? I might do this instead of adding another CC as I want to do high voltage input from panels due to distance from my equipment room.
    I should add that I went all-in on Schneider equipment. A CC that can handle that much DCV is over $1k. This seems like a no-brainer for me or do you think the losses will be too much?

    Do you have any experience with high-voltage solar panels? I obtained a used solar panel with a 132V open circuit voltage. It appears to be a 90V 90W panel. this is purely based on testing. once I exceed 90 Watts of draw the voltage Drops in a hurry. My goal is to come up with a solution so that I can charge a jackery 500 with it. I thought about trying to use a DC to DC buck converter but I cannot find one that will handle that open circuit voltage. I do not think a charge controller will work because the jackery does not put out power on its charge port. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

    Will would like to know the results of your private micro grid testing. The Growatt is going to look for stable 120/240 at 60hz power before connects its output. It will first sample the AC connection and look for a signal, then it will sync up its internal signal generator its inverter sine wave matches that of the line. Secondly its likely to do some line probing tests to make sure its connected to the grid and not some stray leakage current. Finally it will likely monitor the line for a few seconds adjusting its output voltage to the attached network then finally connect and ramp up the current to what ever your solar input can support. It's quite a complex process. The issue with a small private (not network attached) private grid is you have to provide the initial startup voltage from a second not grid tie inverter -- sort of faking a real grid. This issue here is a real grid has lots of what is called "Grid Inertia". What this means is no matter how much current you push to the grid the grid voltage is not going to change. This is not the case with your private micro grid which has zero inertia. Without the grid inertia the entire setup would likely be unstable. Without schematics and the software code to examine you will just have to test it. Lets say you have enough solar input to allow the Growatt to push 20 amps to the grid which the real grid would gladly accept without issue. It does this by raising the output voltage very slightly until 20A is flowing then adjusts the output voltage to keep 20A flowing as the solar input or Network voltage changes. But on the private grid, the Growatt would keep raising its output voltage higher and higher trying and push that 20 amps to your private grid. Since your grid can't take the energy the voltage would increase to it likely over voltage faulted the Growatt.
    Grid tie inverters are constant CURRENT AC sources, (also thought of as constant power devices given a stable solar input) They provide a constant AC current to the grid by finely adjusting the output voltage or phase to keep the current constant.
    Normal inverters are constant VOLTAGE AC sources. They provide a regulated output voltage independent of the load. Thje current and power supplied are determined by the attached load not by the inverter.
    Only way to know is to test it. Try starting it with some loads resistive and motor (provides some inertia) on the inverter then try and attach the Growatt. Don't let out the magic blue smoke -- all electronics run on blue smoke, let it escape and you killed the device.

      Amazon sells small one-burner butane stoves. Just use them outside when cooking (not inside). Heat draws a lot of electric so you would deplete a simple battery bank before your food was cooked.

    • @bl3681
      @bl3681 2 роки тому

      @@keezer4346 Thanks, that's a fantastic idea! The biggest problem is that the condo doesn't really have any open-air spaces so it's quite limited that regard. I had considered like a Coleman stove top or something but, again, using it inside was a concern, especially during the winter.
      Unfortunately, I may have to consider getting a small bank specifically for running something like a single burner cooktop.
      Was considering something like the Jackery solar panel as it's portable and seems rather easy to adjust but I hear there are much cheaper alternatives. Trying to figure out the best mix of cost, size and functionality for a relatively small space (solarium).
