      Although the most of the jobs don't have distinctions, you can name the characters based on their onion knight colors.
      I also think you should temper your opinion on recommendation. Ff series was always light on story before ff4.

    This is probably my favorite Pixel Remaster of the three released so far. It's just really fun, and not only that but it has the best pixel art in my opinion. The story is also pretty cool, too, at least to me. And tbh, I like the characters being blank slates, because then I can name them after me and my homies 😎

      @@sertiana2512 I think this version made a lot of arbitrary decisions regarding which features they included. Its not actually a true pixel remaster since it has a lot of new features. So the idea of it being true to the original mostly comes off as an excuse to not include other content that would require more effort.

      3D remake is a good example of how being too lenient to original game's feature brings more harm than good. You can't save anywhere, while they buff enemies stats and gimp so many classes. It's functional of course, but still a very grindy experience.

      @@sertiana2512 The FF3 Pivel remaster is the only one I'd consider worth it. I feel that the PSP/DS/GBA versions are far better than these games in every other way. FF3 however are what you said, a more comfortable way to play, like the PSP version of FF4 compared to the DS version. I actually found that I didn’t need to do any grinding (expect for 2 levels at the end of the game to get the lvl 50 achievement). As long as you’re exploring and doing the optional content, I think the difficulty has some good pacing.

    While this new version does revert back to the old style where the characters are all blank slates, I actually kind of like that because we now have a legal way to play it in that original form, and the 3D remaster is still available on Steam so you can have both versions in one place if you'd like.

    Unless I’m mistaken, the only “bonus dungeon” this one would be missing is the Iron Giant’s cave, which can barely be called additional content. As someone who lost his DS cartridge at the last dungeon, only to buy the game again and 100% it, I think this is the one remake in this series that I’m definitely buying.

    3 and 4 were probably always going to be the hardest sells of the set just because their 3D versions are as good as they are, but having access to a 2D version of 3 in any form internationally is appreciated. And the audio direction is certainly tempting.
    Kinda wish they could have had some kind of nod to Luneth and the gang though, even something simple like giving the 4 WoL's their respective hair colors to differentiate 'em a bit.

    • @Altercate

    I've already played the 3D Remake some years ago, and I'm enjoying going through this one a lot. I'm about halfway through now. What caused me to have a huge interest in this FF3 remake is the remastered soundtrack. Also, since the story is simplistic and the pacing is so fast, especially with the auto-battle, it's just fun and comfortable to play and progress in.

    I've seen conflicting reviews on the pixel remaster series so far, but for someone just now finally getting into the series after a long time of wanting to but not really gelling with it until recently, they have been a great way to experience the games without worrying about which versions have the best script or mechanics. At the very least, they're a good starting point to familiarise myself with the games before finding a prefered version. At the moment, I'm playing through IV on GBA and loving it. I prefer the sprites to the SNES versions and I'm using a patch to have the SNES music, yet I have faith that the release of IV for this remaster will be a good accessible way to play the game.

    I personally don’t mind the lack of different job sprites since this was originally a 8 bit NES game.
    And I actually rather enjoyed the simple story and how it’s much more focused on you exploring the world and saving the towns which was pretty common for most RPGs back then.
    And for me FF3 is easily the best out of the 3 NES games for it’s job classes and scope as I rather liked the world building in this game such as the floating continent and the world submerged in water.
    A really underrated FF game.

      @cronoesify 2 роки тому

      @Tom Ffrench Not for nothing....but DQ3 also featured zero sprite designs. So...more customization just meant different gameplay options without actually being able to see the results.
      FF3 maxed out the cartridge that it was on back in the day. They did all they could with the space they had.

    • @cronoesify
      @cronoesify 2 роки тому +1

      @Tom Ffrench I think people are largely missing the point of these pixel remasters. It isn't to give a FF4 compilation style overhaul, complete with sleek, new designs and modern gameplay mechanics.
      The pixel designs are meant to harken to the era they were designed from, using color palettes that couldn't be achieved due to the color limits.
      The only liberty taken would be the backgrounds and world maps, which decidedly are 16/32 bit. The end result when played is a feel that is closer to the NES original.
      And honestly, job well done after having played all of FF3 and a good chunk of FF1. The stills looked ugly to me, but in motion I definitely felt it was more true to the original games than any of the gussied up remakes.
      (But which one is more enjoyable is up to you - hard to beat the anniversary editions).

    • @cronoesify
      @cronoesify 2 роки тому

      @Tom Ffrench gotta remember that the idea of the 4 characters being of generic design is a call back to dungeons and dragons, and the player imagining the differences. Same concept that went into the silent protagonist role - I may not agree with the value of the concept, but adding personalized details into each sprite strays from the design philosophy.
      And, again, the point of these remasters was to make it more like the original game and to strip as much modern influence from it as possible. Because of that, though, there's going to be plenty of argument that other versions of the game are better.
      However, considering FF3 is competing with the 3D remake, this game has more intrinsic value than other games in this remaster compilation.

      You don't really need to grind anymore, with all the QoL change (dark crystal recharge/quicksave). Also bosses like Ahriman and Two-headed dragon damage has gone down, its a breeze getting through crystal tower. On the NES version one RNG will wipe the party in the 50s, thats why many people grind the lv to 70s just to get thru the long brutal crystal tower. In PR i think you can finish the game under lv50, I beat it with lv50 Nin/Nin/Devout/Bard.

    I'm around 75% through this and I rather like it. It's such a monumental leap from Final Fantasy 2 to this that it's still rather fun to play. You can see the progression in game design between this one and the previous (bad) Final Fantasy 2, and the epic and great next game after this that was Final Fantasy 4. In many ways lots of what we see in this game directly influenced Final Fantasy 5. Out of the first 6, my ranking list would go something like: Final Fantasy 6, Final Fantasy 4, Final Fantasy 5, Final Fantasy 3, Final Fantasy 1, Final Fantasy 2. -- but I could easily see swapping this and 5 depending on which job system you prefer.

I think FF3 takes place in the First after the events of FF14 Shadowbringers and the warriors of darkness at the end of FF3 are maybe Alphinaud, Thancred, Urianger, and Alisaie (or maybe the FF14 protagonist) and the flood of light they were referring to was the events in Shadowbringers. I think people need to stop demanding remasters of they favourite games and then complain that the developers are trying to profit from them - because yeah that's what businesses have to do! Be glad they even remastered it, and from this description it looks like they did a good job. I'll pay for a good remaster will attention to quality. Just because it's 2D and an old game doesn't mean it should be cheaper than your Macdonalds meal!

  • @MLmaster135

    i think the PR version of FF3 is pretty great, as its the first time the game's been release din the west and you get to play as 4 onion knights which is great
    another thing of note, the bottomless bog and statues of the quest, which killed you in the og/FF3 3d remake when you don't have the right item? they don't kill you in FF3PR. its a cutscene that pushes you back after.
    the bog not killing is.. very silly because you're literally warned about it. but the statues i can give it to as thats a bit obscure until you get one of the elemental fangs.
    I think FF3PR is the most accessible version and has an amazing soundtrack, but i think 3d remake is only a tad bit better because:
    1. its.. more challenging as it gave the FF3 bosses the unique ability to attack twice per round(unfair yes but its deff what made the game more challenging and i believe its what makes the FF3 bosses stand out from all other FF games.) the bossess in FF3PR obviously will not have this as its based on the nes, where they only attack once, thus its more fair.
    2. Cloud of darkness is a bit lame in FF3PR cuz it only has one move it spams over and over, whilst FF3d remake its tentacles actually attack you and it uses its hands for a physical attack when not using particle beam.
    3. has a super boss known as iron giant. but its more-so the first point, as that superboss is just a very.. minor advantage the 3d remake has
    4. i think it has a better paced plot to an extent over the FF3PR as due to FF3 PR starting you out with the 4 onion kids already.. the story may be a bit fast, but 3d remake's events likely have better pacing in the beginning as you're introduced to the party members through the story events.
    that aside i think both of the FF3s are great, and FF3PR is the best one accesibility wise due to no stat penalty and great qol like being able to have phoenix downs instead of having to steal them all the time. but 3d remake also has an edge and is best for challenge due to more challenging bosses and some normal battles(where specific enemies can attack twice) overall.

Also its disgusting these games are not on consoles yet. The whole mobile game market excuse they used is garbage as the Switch exists and does exceptionelly well everywhere including japan. I'll buy them once they all come to the Playstation, at a discounted price, because what they are asking is ludicrous. I also wouldn't say the story is a weak point, considering it is a NES story, which is way above the average of what was on that system. 3 is quickly becoming one of my favorites of the 2D era of Final Fantasy. My verdict: This is the best version of FF III ever. Hands down!.
    FF III was the first game in the series I played when it first came out; it's the first JRPG I played, even. While I loved the original to death, the game has quite a lots of flaws; especially the job system where some jobs are practically useless. For example, Geomancer's "Terrain" command had very low success rate. Arrows are limited and that makes Hunter practically useless. I played original more than 4 times and I always ended up playing the same party setup over and over.
    The 3D remaster, on the other hands, toned down the difficulty level too much. It fixed the problem with Geomancer but, in turn, it became too OP. At the higher job levels, Terrain command can deal very huge damage with zero cost. And because of the hardware limitation (it was originally an NDS game), the number of enemy per battle was greatly reduced and the battle became much more easier.
    This version, though, it fixes the flaws in the previous games and the game becomes more balance. There's no such thing as weak jobs anymore (there's still some flaws but they are much more balanced than the old ones). I'm in the first play through and planning to restart the second play through with the new party setup. The only gripe I have with this game is, the mobile version, which I'm playing, doesn't support gamepad. That kind of stupid, if you asked me, considering that the game's UI was designed with gamepad control in mind. And I'm telling you, adding codes for supporting controller is not that difficult. I see no reason why they decided to not to do it.

    The 3DS remake stuff being loss isn't that big of a deal IMO. The extra story stuff at least for this was minimal at best and required some logic issues at worse. Really the best thing the 3D remake did was give easy names to the kids. Makes starting a new game easy, I don't have to think of who I want to be what!
    Oh Cid brought the kids to the floating rock in the sky before the world of darkness happened? But hasn't the real world been frozen in time for 100 years or something? (and the excuse I hear is that its been slowed or whatever and people just can't admit its an error in the new story).
    And the kids no longer having blank slates isn't anything special as well. Luneth is the only one to have the exploring nature now that all 4 had before apparently? Arc is a nerd that doesn't wanna be picked on? Refia is a girl when one could have said they were all girls before if they wanted...but she wants to be a black smith, Angus wants to be a knight? Sure glad Angus and Refia coming with us isn't getting in the way of their personal goals and dreams! Oh and that stuff about them comes in handy huh? It isn't brought up or made much use of again out of the game's ending.
    The "extra dungeon" was just a room with dragons in it and a super boss version of Iron Giant. Who was lame super boss wise anyway (if you aren't power leveled beyond just beating the end game you might as well just say gg if you run into this thing). And the extra items most of the time were more of a "glad you wasted your time on this weak class, here is a item for your trouble that still won't make black mage worth it than magus because like it or not no matter how nice the stats are black mage still isn't gonna be able to hit foes with flare! FF3's job system is just a lot of old jobs getting replaced but at least this new version isn't nerfing those good jobs as bad as the 3D version did to try and make them balanced (I mean ninja's vit isn't as buffed as the NES still but its still a good stat for it in this remake). Job levels in this version makes it harder to wanna "upgrade" some cause you have to spend more time grinding. But then again, grinding is the name of the game for FF3.
    So yeah out of the classic FF games 3's loss of extra stuff is the least of a big deal for these remakes. FF1 loss a bunch of challenge gauntlets, FF2 loss a whole extra story mode (and even if the dungeons in that were just flipped it was interesting), FF4 and what it loses varies based off the version (truth be told I wouldn't mind a version of FF4 that gave us everything the 2D and 3D games gave us).
    FF5 stands to lose a challenge dungeon that was actually kind of interesting...don't really care about the 4 extra classes. FF6 you lose a challenge dungeon and some summons so far. But they aren't fully out yet so I can't fully judge if they lose anymore (like saving your stuff after fighting Kefka for example let you have a certain sword and a summon).

      I personally don't mind the cut bonus content, to be honest. I usually don't do that stuff anyway. The only thing I really feel is a loss is Soul of Rebirth from FF2.
      And yeah, FF3-3DR's story makes an already muddled story even more confusing... 😂

      @@Altercate I don't mind the cut content being loss when it is stuff like trying to make a story when there wasn't much of a story like FF3. If the new story was like Sword of Mana on the GBA where it is like a new game losing that would be a actual downer.
