Burke: Go scrub in. When we've finished cracking the baby's chest, I'll let you hold the clamp.
Meredith: Seriously?
Burke: Don't make me change my mind.
Meredith: I'm going.
Cut to Derek entering the rapist's room. He whacks the end of the bed to wake him up.
Derek: I have good news and bad news. The good news is, Dr. Bailey stopped your bleeding. The bad news is, we're giving your penis to the cops. Have a nice life.
He leaves and the rapist realises he's cuffed to the bed.
Cut to Cristina and Alex giving more results.
Cristina: The results of your labs were clean; the tumour's benign, you can go home today.
The patient hugs her husband, who then goes for Cristina. Cristina acts fast and shoves Alex into his way. Alex gets a nice big hug, and Cristina leaves, pleased with herself. Cut to the OR, Meredith's holding the clamp.
Meredith VO: At some point, you have to make a decision. (cut to her watching the babies again) Boundaries don't keep other people out. They fence you in. Life is messy. That's how we're made. (we see the other interns are with her) Okay, fine, George and Izzie, you can move into the house.
George: YES! Yes!
Izzie: I can't believe you caved! (George and Izzie hug)
George: Yes! (George and Izzie go, dancing)
Meredith: I can't believe I caved.
Cristina: I blame the babies. Toxic.
Meredith VO: So, you can waste your life, drawing lines, (cut to Derek, on the phone outside Alison's room. Suddenly, he puts down the phone, mouth open. He's seen something) Or, you can live your life crossing them. (Low angle shot of Alison. Her eyelids are fluttering. They open and she sees Derek).
Derek: Welcome back.
Cut to Meredith leaving in her same-as-Alison's shoes. She walks over to the elevator...where Derek is waiting.
Meredith VO: But there are some lines...
Derek: So. It's intense...this thing I have for, ah, ferry boats I mean.
Meredith VO: ...that are way too dangerous to cross.
Meredith: (turns to smile at Derek) I'm so taking the stairs this time.
Elevator dings.
Derek: No self-control. It's sad. Really.
Cut to Meredith leaving. She runs to catch up with Izzie, George and Cristina.
Meredith VO: But here's what I know. If you're willing to take the chance...the view from the other side is spectacular.

Back then they did everything right: great music, great patients, great speeches, it was moving at a good pace, they made it feel like it was a real hospital, but above all great acting! This really is the best show I've ever seen.

Cupcakes26 HAHHHA i know that was my thought straight away. It's sad because new people don't watch it because of its reputation of being melodramatic and ridiculously implausible. Everything after season 8 is pretty much non existent in my mind (including Lexie's death.)

After Meredith turns back around and walks away from the hospital, it fades to black. Now we fade in to an old woman sitting in a chair, looking out the window. “They’re all really nice. I think we’re going to get along pretty well,” a woman says. We see her setting some things down behind the older woman on a table. “And the house is coming along great. We just need to make some changes to the yard now.” The older woman turns around. “What’s your name again,” she asks. The other woman stops, her smile fading. “It’s me mom. Zola.” Meredith nods as she rings her hands. She turns back to the window, watching the ferry boat glide across the water. “Zola,” she repeats. “Are you the doctor?” Zola answers, “No, I’m not your doctor.” Meredith pauses. “I was a doctor once.” Zola smiles. “Yeah. You were a really amazing surgeon.” It fades as Zola goes to hold her mother.
Well, I'd cry for days.
My favourite part is the last 30 seconds of this, starting from when Meredith goes outside. Great scene, great song, great show.

As someone who is in his late 30's, and looking to become a paramedic/nursery assistant (late bloomer, I know) , still terrified by the "what ifs", and as someone who has dedicated half of his life to creating boundaries while at the same time wanting to feel I belong anywhere, this clip makes me burst into tears, especially those last 30 seconds:
"Here's what I know: if you're willing to take the chance, the view from the other side IS SPECTACULAR!"

Gosh, the mid 2000s were a vibe. I miss it. The music. The shows. Everything. Grey’s came out my senior year of high school and my group of friends and I would have watch parties every Thursday night in college watching this and The Office. What a time to be alive.

I miss this time... meredith with derek, izzy,george, karev and christina... fightings and reconciliations.. so so miss this time..
I also work as a hospital intern. I think one day, when I'm going home with my friends, I'll turn around to look at it and imagine the song in my head.It just makes everything so much more beautiful.

Looking back at this, I feel nostalgic for when the show was obviously not as full of hypocritical characters and heaps of drama and pain...but I still enjoy it. Yes, the series has lost literally almost all the characters in here, but it's still going and this happened. I'm going to remember that.

I watched every episode of Grey's Anatomy and this is my favourite ending of all 10 seasons because everyone ist just happy. It's also my favorite song. And Alison woke up ♥

I think the show should end with Meredith walking into an elevator with Derek in the middle and Ellis, George, Dylan (the bomb guy), Doc, and everyone else shes lost surrounding him, almost like they were waiting for her.💘
Or everything a fever dream. And Meredith wakes up and it’s the beginning and Meredith is in the bar with Derek.
Or sitting in front of a woman asking "Are you the doctor?"
And she says "No, I'm not your doctor. But I'm a doctor."
"What's your name?"
"It's me, mum. Zola."
"I think I was a doctor too"
"Yes, mum! You worked at Grey Sloan memorial hospital, you were a surgeon."

Grey’s anatomy is not the same anymore. First 3 seasons were just AWESOME... after the first 5, it just lost something. That phrase is really, just genuinely beautiful tho:

I watched the first episode and I wasn't so excited, but then when I watched the 1x02 I fell in love. This was only three months ago. Now I'm in season 16 and I miss this old seasons. This scene in particular, is heartbreaking if you know what happens to all of them

what a great time for this show! this song gives me tingles lol. I use to watch this show with my mother when it first came on. We loved grey's, i knew we were just watching something different and wonderful. The first couple of years of this show were magic. who ever was picking out their music was awesome

Turns out, it sounds great even as background music, and I recognize one of the doctors there. The one with the hat. Is that the guy from the Disney movie "Enchanted"?

This is still one of my favorite scenes on TV in general. Meredith's speech about "drawing lines" and especially the scene of her noticing her new friends and running up to join them hit really close to home when I re-watched Grey's a couple years ago. I was just starting to re-introduce myself to the world after isolating myself for several years, out of fear of getting hurt. I was just starting to go back to school and make new friends, and Meredith's speech inspired me to keep it up. I've made mistakes and slipped up a lot along the way, but I'm happy to say that I'm still going to school, and I still have several close friends! :)
Hey, me! I still really relate to Meredith’s character arc of learning to open up to her new co-workers and becoming friends with them. “Boundaries don’t keep other people out, they fence you in”. I “fenced myself in” for several years out of a deep fear of change, and getting hurt, and I still have to catch myself trying to fence me in again and put a stop to it. “If you’re willing to take the chance, the view from the other side is spectacular.” is something I’ve had to learn again and again over the past few years. I’ve started taking risks and trying to get out of my comfort zone, and it’s really paid off! I’ve grown so much in the past couple years, and even in the 7 months since I wrote my first comment. :)
