It's a bit controversial but I like the idea from this movie that a grand gesture isnt gonna solve your problems. Our MC has been burying her trauma for many years now (hasnt bern keeping up with therapy, not selling the childhood home, overworking etc) so it is kinda nice if not sad that her finally confronting her problems wouldnt be enough, because in real life, thats not how it works. I guess the scariest thing thing about this movie is how easy it is idle through life until your trauma consumes you and everything around you, and by the time you realize tyat you need to do something, it might be too late.
True but technically had the guy at the end not watched the entity would’ve ended there or atleast been trapped with Rose body. All he had to do was look away so this could also be a saying; “when people are going through heavy shit, turn a blind eye and look away”
@@TheViceKing1 no lol youre thinking about it too literally, more like "don't continue the cycle of trauma". the curse itself is supposed to be a metaphor for the cycle of trauma and how people are prone to carrying and burying deep trauma within themselves. its basically just showing how trauma is passed and lives on due to people never wanting to deal with it consistently
It also makes it make sense for why people assume she's just been driven a bit mad by patients too. It's like how a therapist can still need their own therapy since often, constantly interacting with negative experiences and stuff will mentally fuck you up. It's genuinely in line for the characters to think "Oh shit, okay, she might need a mental wellness break" and such.

My friend and I are in our Master's program to be therapists and when we saw this movie in theaters we were just like "this is a little too close to home."

0:33 DIAMOND DAVE JUMPSCARE In all seriousness tho, I love this movie and how accurately it portrays someone going through a mental health crisis as well as the psych unit of a hospital. My mom’s been working psych since I was just a year old in 1996 and I have diagnoses of my own, so I’ve got a fairly good insight. It was very well done. And yes, most therapists HAVE therapists. Ironically enough, for as dark as this movie is, it was one of my funniest theater experiences. When Rose first starts seeing the entity in the scene with Carl and she asks “how are you feeling?” some dude in my theater yelled “doin’ pretty good!” and everyone busted up laughing. It really helped ease the constant tension for a second.

Ideally, therapists will talk to another professional when they’re experiencing this much anxiety and trauma, but therapists are usually the last ones to seek therapy because they think they should be able to handle anything. That has been my experience anyway.
I've never even seen this movie, but I'm still gonna totally watch the reaction just to see if Oak is jumpscared outta his mind like in Barbarian. LOL I've watched that snippet way more times than I care to admit just to laugh my butt off.
Therapist here! It might be workplace policy in her setting/hospital to go speak with another mental health person after an incident like that, but that level of violence is pretty unusual. There is something called a "critical incident debriefing" they might do for the team. Ironically, speaking with someone typically isn't required.
Therapist here as well. I think it probably depends on the specific site and setting (e.g., CMHC/CCBHC versus PRTF versus Psychiatric Hospital versus University Counseling versus Private Practice, so on so forth). From my experience, it varies, both in terms of how such situations are handled in addition to the incidence of such situation. (Remember, therapy as a profession is consistently ranked in the top 5 professions for violence against the professional; so, to say that such violence is pretty unusual is not particularly accurate). However, we do know that Critical Incident Debriefing (in terms of the general principle as applied to posttraumatic situations and crises) makes things worse; in an institutional/organizational setting, the use of such procedures would probably constitute an OSHA violation.

Mason Quinn bringing up Denzel Washington in Fallen is spot on. I also had the same thought after watching this movie. I think y'all would love that one. While this movie doesn't really beat you over the head (teehee) with it, it definitely feels like an allegory for mental health. But no so on the nose that it feels like its being forced. The entire theme of "I'm fine" despite clearly being not fine is very relatable.
This movie is up there with my favorite horror movies just because of how good the scares were, the atmosphere, the acting, and how the movie makes you feel like you're going crazy alongside rose. Also, I liked the ending because it shows that not all protagonists will make it alive just because they faced their fear or something like that.
The name of the movie Mason Quinn was trying to think of was **"Fallen"** and it's a great movie. Though technically more of a psychological thriller and not a Horror movie, but still and awesome watch. Would love you all to do a reaction to it.
If this ever comes comes back to theatres which i doubt it will go watch it this movie is nowhhere near as scary without all the bass and sounds in the theatres i watched this which a bunch of friends and maybe that was apart of it too but when we watched it that scare where shes listening to the recording we like jumped out of our seats and idk how to describe but i felt the sound go threw me and it felt like it moved my body it was a really scary and weird feeling but at home its not as scary and it rly brings down the experiance
Dang look at Praper gettin WORK in! All the Reel Rejects videos plus Badd Medicine? Man who else do they edit for I don’t even know about! Lol great job Praper!
Smile 2 comes out soon too. Some key details the director gave that most viewers don’t catch are the first girl who cuts her throat and the widow of the man killed when rose interviews both , they both says sue and the woman’s husband experinced significant time loss , blocks of time when they would be doing something or in bed then what feels like falling asleep but comming go in a place they don’t remember traveling to, what doing there, how they got there , and the missing time both said to be hours regularly with no knowledge of what they’d been doing .the demon degrades its targets mental state and faith as well as displaying to loved ones behavior they see as mental breaks . This is a important key to the movie becasue some people complained of “cheap” jumpscares that made no sense like rose going to bed hearing her mom but wakes next clip flashes to a jumpscare of rose standing in traffic almsot hit by a car next day. Viewers feel these are random and cheap but the director clarified these aren’t cheap jump scares, these shots are showing the viewer exactly what the targeted is doing , how we go to bed and wake up almsot hit by a car, and it shows rose looking in shock and confused, these periods of time lost we learn early the demon is able to possess its targets or feed them an imaginary visions /dreams of things that aren’t happeneing while the demon uses this body to perform tasks that will isolate them from their loved ones . We see rose sit down to wrap the train and clipping to next day showing time lost and we know she physically took the train out of the box and killed her cat and put it in while possessed . We also learn that this demon can feed endless false scnearios , anything to keep someone from carrying out a suicide etc and that once the person starts the suicide when the witness is present it locks up the new witness the moment the spell of sorts begins , that’s why she doesn’t turn her head close her eyes nor does the ex BF and that’s why he doesn’t charge her to stop the match lighting. The second movie was suppose to pick up from this one with Joel but Hollywood decided to go grand and follow a Britney Spears level singer , not sure how I feel about it Did you guys see the marketing of this where they paid actors to go to televised sporting events and would put them on the 2-3 rows right where the cameras would pass by and have them smiling non stop frozen for the entire sporting event. I remember seeing a Yankees game that was rained out and this lady right behind home base smiling stayed there as it cleared out for rain she sat in the downpour smiling ! So damn creepy!!! There was a lot more to the movie than most noticed that the writer /director intentionally did inspired by other classic horrors. The writer/director incorporated biblically described descriptions about demons and hell that some movies follow , one of those is the defining of the upside down flying drone shots directly represent this demon flying throughout this world tourmenting souls, the dizzying upside down camera shot is what the demon is seeing and the disturbing sounds created for this film are used in scenes when the demon is present the sounds of hell and this demon that are unsettlingn and stay with you shows us exactly when we are with this demon in flight , the scene where the camera Flies upside down thru Roses office glass window as the phone rings and we see rose run in and grab the phone with our view being the top corner of the rooms wall/ceiling and the camera angle is very crooked & unsettling , thst is the demon arranging the events that will lead to her ultimate loss of sanity and life. These same shots the director saw in M Night Shymalans “Devil” a movie focused religiously on the devil hunting and taking lives with the opening credits playing while the upside down Aerialshots as the devil approached the elevator and Building . Hell referenced as the underworld, an upside down opposite of heaven and this the demons that tempt and attack souls on earth if they could be seen with our eyes moving about this earth they’d be flying , moving upside down.
I was surprised by this movie, I don't normally care for horror, did unexpected things that horror movies typically did. But then the ending... they did was the usual instead of something new. But still a surprisingly good movie
It reminded me of the movie It Follows and I agree it had a lot of potential especially with a strong female lead and she could have ended it all, sacrificing herself to save others but instead she died anyway and more people will die. Very disappointing. In school to be a therapist, it’s wild to me how she was gaslighting herself in a way and I wonder if her schooling talked at all about self care and burn out because it seems like she didn’t learn a lot of those skills. She was also easily convinced by the entity aspect and I wish they would have showed us how she would have struggled with wrapping her mind around that.
Bit late watching this, because I only watched the movie myself a couple of weeks ago. But I just wanted to say I know the movie Mason Quinn is talking about. It's called Fallen, and I had the same thought watching this, that it reminded me of that. I liked that one more though. 21:06 the head turns 😭
So coordinated haha!😂👏🏽
Did you know the main girl is Kevin Bacon and Keira Sedweg's daughter?
We didn't until folks in comments mentioned it. She did fantastic.
I've been wanting to see this great reaction! I love the FREAKY DEAKY smiles from you all!! ❤ 😁
Thank you so much for the super. 🙏
@@BaddMedicine you all are welcome it's not much but I had to show the love for those great smiles 🩵🤍🩶💚🤘🏽
Fallen is the movie with Denzel and John Goodman.
0:18 oaks little innocent smile is so funny lmaooo
Mason Quinn bringing up Denzel Washington in Fallen is spot on. I also had the same thought after watching this movie. I think y'all would love that one. While this movie doesn't really beat you over the head (teehee) with it, it definitely feels like an allegory for mental health. But no so on the nose that it feels like its being forced. The entire theme of "I'm fine" despite clearly being not fine is very relatable.
Missed yall watching scary movies 😂 I know oak wasn’t having it already ❤❤
People smiling hello will never be the same again!
Haha so creative with the intro, had me cracking up 🤣
DD & Answer got the creepiest smiles 🤣
I’m fully convinced oak is just a big teddy bear
This movie is up there with my favorite horror movies just because of how good the scares were, the atmosphere, the acting, and how the movie makes you feel like you're going crazy alongside rose. Also, I liked the ending because it shows that not all protagonists will make it alive just because they faced their fear or something like that.
Have they seen 'It follows'? Another horror movie with somthing similar
The Denzel Washington and John Goodman movie is fallen 1998
Now that you mention it Mason Quinn, yes this does resemble Denzel Washington's "Fallen" movie from 1998
Cinema therapy mention from Oak is the crossover that I didn’t knew I need it 💗
I do like the reactions where all of you are seeing something for the first time.
Five MOVIE suggestions
• Antlers
• The Djinn
• No Exit
• Beast
• The Autopsy of Jane Doe
The name of the movie Mason Quinn was trying to think of was **"Fallen"** and it's a great movie. Though technically more of a psychological thriller and not a Horror movie, but still and awesome watch. Would love you all to do a reaction to it.
I love my sister but If she told me she was being haunted by an entity I would not believe her and think she was crazy
I'm glad Mason brought the up the comparison to "Fallen". Thought I was the only one who saw that connection lol
"Hey, Flash"
Me: Same my friend. Same.
You guys nailed that intro!!
I had the same reaction when A TRAIN showed up. Not sure if I am ready for him to see on other roles.
This movie looked good in previews but did not live up to expectations.
Dang look at Praper gettin WORK in! All the Reel Rejects videos plus Badd Medicine? Man who else do they edit for I don’t even know about! Lol great job Praper!
the continuation of this movie into the beginning of Smile 2 is so fucking good
The theory of the entire movie being a dream made me think of Vanilla Sky
How can you get scared from a movie with the lights on?? 😂
I would love a Cinema Therapy collab 😅
I love that they got the actress from the short to reprise her role.
The second movie was suppose to pick up from this one with Joel but Hollywood decided to go grand and follow a Britney Spears level singer , not sure how I feel about it
Did you guys see the marketing of this where they paid actors to go to televised sporting events and would put them on the 2-3 rows right where the cameras would pass by and have them smiling non stop frozen for the entire sporting event.
I’m always watching the Oaks reaction lol He’s so serious 😂❤ I can tell this one hit him differently.
Wasnt expecting a Diamond Dave jumpscare but I'll have more of that please
Watching this at 1am was not a good idea, Holy shit that intro!
It feeds on their trauma.
I was surprised by this movie, I don't normally care for horror, did unexpected things that horror movies typically did. But then the ending... they did was the usual instead of something new. But still a surprisingly good movie
Don't know if anyone's said this, but I think it was hallucinations, not dream sequences, in most scenes. Also, Fallen was the Denzel movie.
OMG IM SO EXCITED THIS IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE HORROR FILMS EVER
I watched it aaaaages ago, but didn't know the name until I asked about it on Reddit many years later. I've rewatched it once or twice since that, and it's still really good. So that's absolutely one I would watch reactions to!
