The Xbox issues have been happening for a long long time now. It seems Microsoft doesn't like sharing a global space with other gamers on other platforms. Every single time we tried to play with our Xbox friends it would cause immense problems, the longer we stayed grouped up the more they grew in number and extremes. We saw capital ships get stuck in atmospheres, endless waves of sentinel ships, endless waves of sentinels, the inability to give other players resources or anything else, the game would freeze out of nowhere, sometimes it would intermittently disconnect one of the players in the group and do so quietly we never new until about a minute later when it finally said they disconnected from the game, the xbox gamers would report their game crashing on them. These were no slouch gaming systems either many of these gamers would be playing with their flagship X series consoles so. This however didn't happen with people who played from Steam, but it did happen from people playing on Xbox Play Anywhere (PC).

The Easter weekend is definitely one of the main factors behind the delay. However, I'm not sure if it is a point in Xbox's favour. I assume that the release date was planned well in advance and Easter is a standard calendar event. It should not be a problem to plan the work so that it can be done on time. This is probably the worst possible time for this to happen for me anyway. My xbox friend has just got the game for the first time and we were going to do a new game but i guess it will have to wait :/
I'm an xbox player Jason, and i'm damn angry. I was on xbox support's back when the last patch was a week late, which meant we couldn't finish the expedition properly (when the cursor got stuck in the wrong mode). That was shitty enough, now I see my brother and my friends playing on PS5/PC enjoying the new stations and ship building and I'm stuck just doing quicksilver missions. Xbox support are basically just saying "be patient" which really sucks. I'd suggest every xbox player gets on to them via twitter, so that they start hearing us loudly. I also feel like the "note" on xbox wire was throwing HG under the bus too - which I asked them about. They seem to be being diplomatic right now, but if this keeps happening I think that might change. Moreover, what this does is make people think about playing NMS on another platform if they have access, and also it completely misses all of the twitch/youtube streaming videos being of the xbox version. Xbox starts to look like the poor relation in comparison to those other platforms, which it isn't. I'm an xbox player and I am 100% behind everything you've said. It's not bashing the platform to call out it's failings like this. It's Monday now, and we're still waiting.
So... Are we just... Not going to get Orbital on Xbox, then? Like... Honestly, I'm tired of all the delays. Watching while everyone else gets to have fun on my favorite games while I have to wait days, weeks, months just to get a chance... Whoever's fault it is, Hello Games or Xbox, I'm tired of it. First the fall of Elite Dangerous, then Warframe being acquired by Tencent meaning we get delays there too, then the same with Palworld now going into their hands... I'm starting to notice a pattern with Xbox that I don't really like. I love NMS and I want to play it, but having this happen for 3+ consecutive updates with no clear answer from anyone as to why... Its really ruining my joy.
The worst part is that it's not just the Xbox version, it's also the PC version if you play it via the Microsoft Store (which is the case for many GamePass Ultimate subscribers)
very true, but they are building a ps4 and ps5 version as well. I don't know if Sony is as hard about their requirements, but you would assume if it could run on a Xbox One then you just get faster loads / frame rates from more power on the more recent consoles. No idea if that is accurate though, just me spit balling stuff.
@@VyseSolo I don't believe that's true at all. Both the Series X and S are considered next-gen while the one X is an old-gen console. It's probably a certification problem or optimization issues for old-gen consoles cuz my game runs smoothly on Series S
Here's part of the deal on updates using the UWP platform: the update was coming out on a long weekend and with smaller staff the division responsible did not have the time they needed to fully test NMS and other games before the patches were scheduled to go out. Because the patch was not an emergency patch (like a console breaking issue), it would not have been given a high priority. Adding the three together (less staff, long weekend, and lower priority), you end up in this situation. I would venture to guess that if the patch was going out a week later over all the it wouldn't have been an issue.
You can blame Xbox because this is the norm. Hello' games does not control anything to do with Xbox. Xbox has never been on time with anything. This is why I quit ESO because they could not stop FUCKING UP EVERYTHING. I am not even worrying about this update right now. I am trying to get all the Squids and I understand this update makes those harder to find. We will not get that update before the 5th of the month.
Man, I've been following you for a while, I love No Man's Sky, and when I watched your video about the update I immediately turned on my XBox just to face the frustration, like, how come he is playing it already, and well, I realized is not out on XBox yet...
not gonna lie i ended up reformatting my Xbox save into a steam save cause i wasn't gonna wait. about an hour or 2 but well worth it plus i can crank the graphics up higher then on Xbox
What is sad on the Xbox is the connection issues, the crashing to desktop, constantly not generating things from player houses and that means my own and others........ I really hope this and all the new stuff is there, fixed and actually decent, that would be great.
Xbox seems to have a major problem taking responsibility for their lack of support and ability to resolve problems at first it was mostly with their rewards program and recently with things like this delayed update or communication/support to their player base... Because of the delay of Omega update and patches I was unable to complete the last expedition...
No i think xbox/Microsoft are going through all party chat conversations so they don't focus on games. There is a new bill that is to monitor game chat. So the government is using xbox game chat as evidence to try to pass the bill.
It could be that at any time Microsfot can have 3 or 4 different dashboard updates depending on what testing tier you are on as there are 4 tiers. Alpha, Beta,Delta or Omega. That may have something to do with it.
Its definitely xbox this isn't new behavior for them they once made dbz fans wait an entire extra month for a dlc because they made a mistake and then refused to apologize acknowledge it or reimburse people who felt robbed it was the bardock dlc for dbz kakarot
As an Ark player that has recently started playing NMS, there are similar delays and problems with Xbox. The public servers are suffering badly with cross play performance issues. The patches roll out readily for PC but Xbox and PS patches are sluggish to release. I suspect that PC certification for release is fairly straight forward, whereas this process needs to be tested and scrutinized more thoroughly by console developers to minimise the impact on their brand. The alternative is to make everyone wait for release at the same time. Staggering the rollout makes practical sense in order to iron out bugs one platform at a time, especially with a small dev team.
The new space station update is really cool. I will say, space stations look so good that the rest of the game looks…a tiny bit subpar now. Maybe subpar isn’t the right word…”off” maybe? *especially* all OG structures and designs. New Space stations = super duper cool. Nothing else in the game really has their style-they look like they came out of “The Expanse” meets Elite Dangerous with their own uniqueness. Absolutely love it. I cannot wait to see what HG does to broaden that aesthetic across the rest of the game.
I'm hoping the update (whenever it arrives) solves my current issue. I've got 2000+ hrs logged in the game, under my normal save. However, some glitch happened and I'm stuck in the Omega expedition. The in game terminal isn't letting me leave the expedition. But my Xbox still recognizes a save file of 55 MBs.
Thanks for info. Makes sense to me. xbox player here, releases fir this game have dogged me some but I'm too impatient. Yeah I agree, the last 8 months or so with mircosoft have been weird with this game
I think certifacation process seems more of a waiting game then they have to go in order certifactions pass to release any updates by that not urgency of updayes that could fix a game or adding things. Had a issue with dlc for battlesector, purchased the second it released from xbox store. but yet did not instill had to wait on a update that went with dlc which the devs releases it on time and waited for update for day or two.
I was beginning to wonder. Haven't received the update yet for Xbox and have been keeping an eye out for a couple of day now. Still managed to get it on steam on the PC though but only snag is my assets are there compared to what I have on xbox
Switch also hasn’t received the update, so there’s that. 😜 More than likely, whoever at Microsoft that was supposed to certify the update for Xbox either ran into issues with the update itself or the certification process was extra complicated last week and the update got delayed to this week as a result.
it could be. I don't know the detailed process but I would think that it needs to work on both consoles, considering the S has less power to work with.
@@JasonPlaysNMS Not saying this is actually the case, but if they laid off some of their certification teams, then the remainder are likely prioritizing which games get certified first.
I have been making it aware on many UA-cam channels that NMS on Xbox is broken. It has a serious crashing problem. Ever since the last Expedition update. Example it would crash every time you approach a sentinel ship or any type of point of interest.
😅thanks for the video on this. I”m sure the layoffs did help matters, and Microsoft is building a 100,000,000.00 new data center for AI so we have a major focus change in the company so they’re that.
My assumption for these newer updates is more because of the series s. This update has a fully updated game engine, the series s is the same system specs as the Xbox one X so the game may run perfectly fine on the ps5 and the series x but because the series s is not technically a next gen they may be concerned that series s may not be able to handle the new engine. Starfield ran into the same issue now they actually have to release seperate updates for the series s and the series X purely due to the fact that they had to totally recode the game for the series s because of the performance specs it just wasn’t able to handle it. The ps5 and series x have roughly the same specs though so when a game is stretching the limits to fit those two consoles Xbox have to step in and go “we did a dumb thing by making the series s not a next gen but you still need to make the update playable on that platform”
I mean, I can't help but feel as of right now, this holiday weekend must be playing a factor into the delay. Hence why "early next week" is the target date
I am of the mind that Microsoft is the delay issue. Trove has missed 2 major seasonal events (St Pat’s themed Luck event and Easter event that each usually last 2 weeks each)and one new event that have never been delayed in the years I’ve played Trove. PC has had the events and moved on to different things already. Seems like the issues with Microsoft has kind of coincided with their purchase of Blizzard/activision. I could be mistaken but just weird.
I'm regretting that I did not get NMS on my PC when I had the chance last year but in my defense I didn't want to start all over after over 600 hours on my save. Also I didn't not want to have all the stuff from my previous expeditions that I worked for.
Anger doesn't begin to describe how I feel about the constant delays and the lack of transparency on the reasons why. Like I said on another video on this subject, at this point in time it feels like we Xbox players are the step children that no one wants at the family parties.
Think its more the QA checks that games have to have before releasing updates ect. Was same for warframe and many other games, DE explained it well. Xbox had more testing than playstation even in the past with many games. For me im ok with updates being later as long as it releases smooth without bugs and issues.
Well, PlayStation recently laid off 900 employees. That didn't hinder No Man's Sky players to get their updates & patches on time. So...something else has to be going on with what ever the hell is going on at XBOX that is preventing players from receiving their updates on time. Someone is bound to get the truth & spill the tea about XBOX. I wouldn't be at all surprised if it's all being caused by thirsty, grossly-overpaid, naive, executives & shady politicking who have no business being anywhere near a gaming division. They think, if it is the actual case, they're going to sacrifice sales for cutting cots. That's just plain stupidity on their part. Just like the Bud Light debacle.
I've despised M$ before Windows came out. I don't know the problem, but preferring getting their games out before anyone elses wouldn't surprise me. Or, as you said, it could be the layoffs at M$. "Kill the goose that is laying the golden eggs!"
I hope not. I think ( hope ) that this is growing pains that will iron out or at worst issues immediately after losing a ton of people due to layoffs. Other people will have to take on more responsibly ( crappy ) but they will get the process back to normal. Fingers crossed anyway.
Yeah, poor Greg😔 but seriously tbh the majority of the layoffs were related to recent acquisitions but did include some additional jobs elsewhere, namely Greg if he really exists 😅 probably to offset the costs of said acquisitions🤷🏻♂️
Good post Jason. I think either way unfortunately, it’s been a PR disaster for both Microsoft and HG and I think it particular because it occurred just before an extended Easter holiday, when a lot of people have a bit more leisure time 👍🏻👍🏻
i dont think its a Hello Games issue, i think i may look at buying Steam, just curious would my Twitch rewards copy over or are they only on the Xbox version
They should. Make sure to link your new Steam account to your Twitch account and all the rewards should carry over. Might take a few days for the NMS servers to update but they should all come over. The expedition rewards will not however, you have to finish each expedition on each platform.
My main guess is it's 100% a major issue on xbox's side, a month ago a game i also play phantasy star online 2 had a similar issue where it took 2 days to update as there was an error getting the update to upload poperly to the microsoft marketplace server so the update couldnt release on the regular scheduled time, my guess is Microsoft recently changed the way the marketplace works behind the scenes or laid off the people who operated that process, and these now common-ish issues are a sign of them suffering the consequences of whatever poor decision was made.
My Xbox hasn’t been able to run no mans sky since the Endurance update. If I could ever afford to get my pc upgraded with better hardware, I could try to get it there cause it’s available for me on pc Xbox gamepass, but that’s so difficult for me at least for this year.
I'm waiting on the update for Xbox. I also have NMS on Steam so I can play the update while waiting. Come to find out I have an expedition save from 2 years ago that I'm playing a little now. I did delete a bunch of my saves so I only have around 6 total on both platforms now.
Yep, my original Xbox One (previous gen console) can't handle *all* recent updates. FPS drops, delayed rendering, etc. It seems I can't enjoy NMS until I upgrade my Xbox to Series X. Really considering to re-buy this game on Steam to play it on the Deck.
Wait, you talking about the OG Xbox One model that released all the way back in 2013? It might be time to upgrade finally, though if you feel confident enough to attempt self-maintenance of your console, you might want to open it up and see if there’s dust and debris inside the unit as that can cause the system not to function correctly.
@@Jolis_Parsec yep, that one. Probably cleaning and maintenance will do. But I'm kinda too lazy, so I'm more leaning to buy it again for Deck. Fresh start with all updates. Any info on the performance on Steam Deck?
@@ArioStarK I’m not familiar with the Steam Deck, but I’d recommend OhNoItsAlexx since he does a lot of videos getting games up and running on the Steam Deck in addition to laughing at console fanboys.
This sucks because I kid you not, I came back to no man’s sky, after about a half-year hiatus, a day before this update’s release with no knowledge of it at all
Xbox has always had a intense stance on making sure updates work before launching them. Might suck but it normally means that everything should work the way it’s supposed to when the updates come out.
The update did break a few things but its all in-game, i doubt Xbox cares about a traded ship scrapping the ship you traded away, or how some ship wings have glitched textures
A lot of Xbox titles have had delays concerning updates and patches recently. The blame seems to lie with Microsoft, so I wouldn't throw too much shade at Hello Games.
Well, Hello Games and Sean have not shared any information at all about the delay for Xbox. Xbox only released their statement because of the amount of complaints they were getting. But hello Games and Sean used to be great with the communication, but so far in 2024 they are crap with communicating when problems like this happen. I am greatly disappointed in both sides as a Xbox player from pre-order. A week late with no communication from Hello Games is crappy. Xbox cert used to only take 24 to 48 hours.
From some other creators. It is Microsoft saying to other customers through their support system. They are telling customers to play starfield instead of nms.
I agree with you, feels like it's on the Xbox side. I mostly play on Xbox, but honestly the reasons to switch pile up in 2024. Glad I already have other options.
I believe xbox is more thorough. Not because of this. But I played a ton of the same games on both xsx & ps5 for 2.5yrs. I experienced a much higher game crash rate on ps5. It got so annoying to me that it drove me to sell my ps5 this year. When I get crashes as often as I was getting, makes having the console feel pointless. Ps4, it was kind of often but I dealt with it. Ps5, it got so much worse I seriously felt like throwing it in a fire pit more than a few times.
I don't think it is Hello Games' fault but rather Xbox for the lateness. I could be totally wrong, but having other games with the same issue points to this being something happening at Xbox itself. Nothing on XBox game pass 03.40 GMT in the UK, PC or Console game pass.
I've been waiting for the update so I can play with my friend who's on Playstation. This is taking too long I'm getting hella impatient
The ps has needed 10+ updates to fix... I don't know what is better.
The worst part is that it's not just the Xbox version, it's also the PC version if you play it via the Microsoft Store (which is the case for many GamePass Ultimate subscribers)
Probably just optimizing for Series S. 2 requirements for the same system can set back developers plus the Series S is extremely underpowered.
Also want to add that Xbox requires parity between Series S and Series X so they have to meet this requirement unless if your name is Baldur's Gate 3
very true, but they are building a ps4 and ps5 version as well. I don't know if Sony is as hard about their requirements, but you would assume if it could run on a Xbox One then you just get faster loads / frame rates from more power on the more recent consoles. No idea if that is accurate though, just me spit balling stuff.
The series S is worse than an Xbox One X ...it's a downgrade. People just didn't read the fine print and saw it's cheaper price than the series X.
@@VyseSolo I don't believe that's true at all. Both the Series X and S are considered next-gen while the one X is an old-gen console.
It's probably a certification problem or optimization issues for old-gen consoles cuz my game runs smoothly on Series S
Citation on this because its been debunked on Digital Foundry many times
Here's part of the deal on updates using the UWP platform: the update was coming out on a long weekend and with smaller staff the division responsible did not have the time they needed to fully test NMS and other games before the patches were scheduled to go out. Because the patch was not an emergency patch (like a console breaking issue), it would not have been given a high priority. Adding the three together (less staff, long weekend, and lower priority), you end up in this situation. I would venture to guess that if the patch was going out a week later over all the it wouldn't have been an issue.
Please note, I do have a dev account for the XB and have had one since the 360 era.
The only real reason why its delayed, in my mind, is because they needed an audience to watch streamers play, to justify their marketing expense.
Thank you Jason. I did not know the reason my XBOX X not updated my NMS to Orbital.
As of now @ 9am MDST the patch is available on Xbox. I'm just about finished updating.
Thank you jason as a small guy in the world of youtube getting infomation is hard so thanks again
Saw that the patch had fixes for memory leak bugs. May be that's what takes them so long? Because XSX had massive problems with memory leaks
GUYS I THINK IT'S AVAILABLE FOR XBOX NOW! JUST CHECKED THE NO MAN'S SKY WEBSITE AND IT'S SHOWING THAT IS XBOX FRIENDLY NOW!! GO GO GO!!
Kinda strange aswell that it shows shuttle customization but it's not actually an option
That's HG as same on all versions
not gonna lie i ended up reformatting my Xbox save into a steam save cause i wasn't gonna wait. about an hour or 2 but well worth it plus i can crank the graphics up higher then on Xbox
how did you do that i wanna do the same not going to wait on garbage xbox
@@stormwolfStreams there's slme videos on UA-cam about it
What is sad on the Xbox is the connection issues, the crashing to desktop, constantly not generating things from player houses and that means my own and others........
Thank you for this update. I was thinking that there was an issue with my Xbox or my account because I didn't get the newest update.
It's still not out on switch 😢
I wonder if has anything to do with the fact that the Xbox has two very different skus with the Xbox series s might be the problem
Switch also hasn’t received the update, so there’s that. 😜
More than likely, whoever at Microsoft that was supposed to certify the update for Xbox either ran into issues with the update itself or the certification process was extra complicated last week and the update got delayed to this week as a result.
it could be. I don't know the detailed process but I would think that it needs to work on both consoles, considering the S has less power to work with.
Scrap the S it’s broken
No it's not the seires s fault.. LMAO, certification either failed or just taking longer
Maybe Microsoft is giving preference to games that arrived at the end of the month. like Diablo 4. I spent the weekend playing it.
Diablo is owned by them now so it could be. Focus on their own games first and then check the other games....
@@JasonPlaysNMS Not saying this is actually the case, but if they laid off some of their certification teams, then the remainder are likely prioritizing which games get certified first.
@@Jolis_Parsecyet ps was pushed out broken and has needed 10+ updates to fix
I have been making it aware on many UA-cam channels that NMS on Xbox is broken. It has a serious crashing problem. Ever since the last Expedition update. Example it would crash every time you approach a sentinel ship or any type of point of interest.
😅thanks for the video on this. I”m sure the layoffs did help matters, and Microsoft is building a 100,000,000.00 new data center for AI so we have a major focus change in the company so they’re that.
When do you think switch will get it?
I'll tell one thing, Microsoft keeps fuckin up like this, they'll lose me as a customer.
Same goes for the Nintendo switch as well
I mean, I can't help but feel as of right now, this holiday weekend must be playing a factor into the delay. Hence why "early next week" is the target date
I’m betting it’s the series S. It’s like 2 completely different systems. Thats why BG3 took so long to come out.
I lost all my expedition rewards this week. I wonder if something broke on Xbox when they tried to do update?
Anger doesn't begin to describe how I feel about the constant delays and the lack of transparency on the reasons why.
Like I said on another video on this subject, at this point in time it feels like we Xbox players are the step children that no one wants at the family parties.
Im so fed up with this issue Im about ready to buy it on Steam and start all over.
Bought it on Steam this week as a result of all this.
Still waiting on DD2 update on Xbox tbh
How do Microsoft test updates to games? Do their testers actually play the game with the patch? Or is some sort of algorithm run through the patch?
Patch 4.63 released today at 6:00 am GMT.
I've despised M$ before Windows came out. I don't know the problem, but preferring getting their games out before anyone elses wouldn't surprise me. Or, as you said, it could be the layoffs at M$. "Kill the goose that is laying the golden eggs!"
I suspect XBOX is giving up on console focus.
Too many new games are failing, even though it's the publisher's fault directly in most cases
It's probably the parity of having to make sure it runs in series s which is no doubt struggling with the more they add to the game.
So do you think this going to the Norm from now on update being late by few days?
few days - try a week or more- they lays off over 1,900 employees .. sure alot was working at keepin the XBOX up and running..
I hope not. I think ( hope ) that this is growing pains that will iron out or at worst issues immediately after losing a ton of people due to layoffs. Other people will have to take on more responsibly ( crappy ) but they will get the process back to normal. Fingers crossed anyway.
I heard they fired the person who releaaes the updates on xbox's side. Thats what i read on reddit
The holiday Jason, the holiday. No one is working on a Friday before Easter at xbox.
I had all my spare ships save up too.....
I have taken this time to collect the ships I'd like to collect parts from and also continue building on the wonderful planets.
Same now I’m just waiting for the update 😅
My main guess is it's 100% a major issue on xbox's side, a month ago a game i also play phantasy star online 2 had a similar issue where it took 2 days to update as there was an error getting the update to upload poperly to the microsoft marketplace server so the update couldnt release on the regular scheduled time, my guess is Microsoft recently changed the way the marketplace works behind the scenes or laid off the people who operated that process, and these now common-ish issues are a sign of them suffering the consequences of whatever poor decision was made.
My xbox update just donwloaded at 5am this morning Denver time.
Never amazed by the corporate greed. Lay off 1900 ppl when your margins will be in the billions even if you keep them on.
I've been having an issue where one wing on my custom hauler is black instead of white and blue like the rest of the hauler
My Xbox hasn’t been able to run no mans sky since the Endurance update. If I could ever afford to get my pc upgraded with better hardware, I could try to get it there cause it’s available for me on pc Xbox gamepass, but that’s so difficult for me at least for this year.
It could possibly be the pay Hello Games get for No Man’s Sky being on game pass not being contractorly worked out.
I'm waiting on the update for Xbox. I also have NMS on Steam so I can play the update while waiting. Come to find out I have an expedition save from 2 years ago that I'm playing a little now. I did delete a bunch of my saves so I only have around 6 total on both platforms now.
Xbox version is not out yet .
Been waiting past 3 days ....
Last expedition update had 3x downloads...
The only reason i don't play this game is because it always dashboards on Xbox. Been doing it for years and they still haven't fixed it.
I play on switch and for some reason the update is still not out on switch yet
I’m hoping Nintendo doesn’t take too long on the orbital update! As someone that can only play on switch I am praying they get that update out soon
April fools joke!!
