A few fun facts about Macho Man: * Once every year the movie is screened in the ruins of an ancient church in Nuremberg in front of an ever-cheering crowd (no joke!) * Rene Weller is the world champion in boxing in the movie - in reality he was europe champion * The breakdancer is the young Captain Hollywood before he got famous * Rene Weller kicks the ass of a gang dealing with heroin and cocaine in the movie - in reality he had to go to jail for cocaine ownership (no joke as well) * There will be sequel, Macho Man II is in production right now!
It's shown in the "ruins of an ancient church"..? Are they worshiping it or something? Are they offering it blood sacrifices and conducting ceremonial orgies? 2 things happen in "ruins of ancient churches": archeological digs and violent/brutal pagan rituals. And I don't think any archeologists are sifting through sand looking for a cheesy action movie. Stay the fuck out of Nuremburg. Those people are fuckin weird...
Don't forget the fact, that Rene Weller, a german boxer, is dubbed by a german voice actor Ekkehardt Belle, because Weller is such a bad actor. Belle is the german voice actor for Steven Seagal in dozens of movies. :D
No matter how bad things are, or how depressed I am, The Cinema Snob is always the highlight of the week. You never fail Brad, thanks for always making me laugh.
The breakdancer was huge in Europe during Nineties. Captain Hollywood Project (Eurodance). He was an American soldier stationed in Germany. Name:Tony Dawson-Harrison.
Yes, the deliver is completly deviod of any real human emotion. Dead Wood has more soul than these characters, hence calling the acting "wooden" would be too much of a compliment.
Vince DiCola scored Rocky IV. He then went on to score Transformers: the Movie, which featured Stan Bush's "The Touch". Well played, Snob. Well played.
anyone notice, the scene in the bank...he dropped the satchel, the next shot it's back in his hands...and then the 3rd shot he's holding it again. WHAT A EDITING CLASSIC!
I'm from the Nuremberg area where most of this movie was shot and I recognized a couple of locations used in this. Obviously alot of things have changed beyond recognition by now. Also, I can't believe that a sequel is being pre-produced by a guy called Davide Grisolia. He's the friend of a friend of a friend basically and I swear I have talked to that guy a couple of years ago. He's in his 20s btw.
This movie was found on DVD in the German-speaking countries, just keep your eyes open. I found it in a Media Markt for a few bucks and suggested this piece of crap. Where to find on DVD in the States/where you live? I believe it's much harder to find a DVD copy. Ebay? The German DVD has English subtitles btw.
Okay... As a german, i know Rene Weller for quiete some tim and i loved his Trash TV appearances 10-15 years ago. Now i discover this review from my beloved Cinema Snob? Is this real life? WTF? Didn't even knew, Weller did movies. Boooiiiii, am i in for a reaaaaal treat.
Thank you for your great review of that classic movie! It has has indeed some serious cult following, especially in my hometown Nuremberg, where it was filmed. It is shown every summer in an open air venue from original film as an event. Some fun facts about the movie: The movie is dubbed in the german version. Maybe due to the terrible performances of Weller and Althof who has a thick franconian dialect. Maybe ist´s because of sound issues or both. The blonde guy, Peter Althof, owns a security service and is the driving force behind the sequel. Rene Weller has been totally fucked up on drugs in the ninetees, had some reality shows and seems like he has had a stroke or something in interviews. Bea Fiedler actually has "acted" before this masterpiece in some erotic movies. The breakdancer actually is a guy named Captain Hollywood who had some success as a rapper for the Captain Hollywood Project in the ninetees producing horrible eurodance. "Harte Fäuste" just means "hard fists" which is not too magic sadly. There is a wonerful german word: "fremdschämen". It means being ashamed for someone else. So here as a special bonus: Meet our heroes again in the "Boxer Rap" ua-cam.com/video/lMWEa2Nx_2Q/v-deo.html
Wow! This is the first American review about a German movie without a single Nazi/Hitler joke. But seriously, very entertaining and very fun. I like you, Snob/Brad ;-) Plus: the outdoor shots of this movie are surprisingly legit. I recognized some Nuremberg streets. It is still the most beautiful city I have ever been in. Apart from that, the movie is truely fun trash. I'm looking for a copy of Macho Man 2 right now.
The ball workout reminds me of a real workout I used to do in Kajukenbo. Feet six inches off the ground, arms bent at the elbows on your sides, punch your stomach 25 times. Followed by 50 six inch crunches. The instructor liked to walk behind everyone in horse stance and kick you in the legs. If you lost your balance, 50 push-ups. Ah, good times.
These subtitles aren't NEARLY fancy enough for a true snob! They translated "guten Tag" as "hello" instead of the FAR more classy literal translation of "good day". Saying good day instead of hello makes it sound more British and upper class, you see, and British AUTOMATICALLY equals fancy! 12:49 "Congratulations, the operation was successful. You are now half man, half robot, and the greatest dancer in the whole world." No, wait, that's Dutch, not German... Eh, close enough.
I saw this in a cinema in West Germany back in 1985 while stationed there. I am not, nor was I then, fluent in German. Obviously there were no subtitles. It was a glorious experience.
This was very entertaining. Thanks Brad! I have a question for you, have you ever thought of doing an episode for a movie called Crosswords? It seems right up your alley. Just curious, thanks again Brad.
I was going to chastise you for not making a Randy Savage reference in a movie called "Macho Man" but you did make some kind of effort, so I guess it'll do
So I am german, and I am really into voiceactors.. and turns out the whole movie was dubbed in germany. Must have been really genious acting, when they had to dub it in the same language...
Hey brad me and a few friends are shooting a sort of 80's style slasher movie, and we're wondering how the best way to get that "shot on shitteo" look using digital footage. We would film on vhs but we really dont have the equipment for it and reshoots would be a pain in the ass.
3:17 - Those guys may not be The Beatles, but shit they got Michael Landau to do the music. I love knowing the musicians who do the music for obscure German action movies.
"Harte Fäuste" literally translates into "Hard Fists", which funny enough, only ONE movie still shares that exact title & it's from 1927. It's not like they couldn't have used it for this!
It is dubbed. I even can manage to figure out some of the voice actors so the voices don't belong to the actors seen on screen anyway. Unfortunately my DVD doesn't have an alternate original audio track, like "Hercules in New York" with Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Push it to The Limit by Paul Engemann AND The Touch by Stan Bush!? It's like my iPod made a cinema snob episode! I look forward to hearing Thunder in Your Heart by John Farnham in next week's episode.
"Disco can heal a broken heart. Disco can heal anything! Except cocaine addiction". Brad, you just summed up a decade of my life.
The guy from 'A Talking Cat!?!'... a career going from strength to strength.
Hmm...going from working with David DeCoteau to David A.R. White......
There's a joke in there somewhere.
Let me know if you spot it.
That explains why the shooters had more sexual chemistry with each other than the main character and her love interests.
Tobias Christopher Oohh, yeeeah... ...oh Noooo...
James Underhill Underhill 7

Unless "The Touch" plays during a montage, I don't care.
It's shown in the "ruins of an ancient church"..? Are they worshiping it or something? Are they offering it blood sacrifices and conducting ceremonial orgies?

well it's 2020 wheres the movie?
@@marcellofunhouse1234 Apparently it was released back in 2017 according to IMDb.
Dang it, and here i was, hoping that this movie is a lost Randy Savage biopic
It is.
"He's like Tom Selleck and Burt Reynolds joined forces to become Patrick Swayze's pulsating cock." Wow! I haven't laughed that hard in awhile
Oooh yeah, Macho Man the cream of the crop!
Damn you beat me to it
demilung "I've been in the Danger Zone..."
Tower of power too sweet to be sour
The film was sponsored by the bank of Garlicland 😂 (Raiffeisenbank Knoblauchsland)
Time for a CUPPA COFFEE IN DA BIG TIME!
It's always a good day when Brad posts a snob video
No matter how bad things are, or how depressed I am, The Cinema Snob is always the highlight of the week. You never fail Brad, thanks for always making me laugh.
Vince McMahon really went over the top with the revisionist history in this one.
greyXstar Just wait until he goes after CM Punk.
The breakdancer was huge in Europe during Nineties. Captain Hollywood Project (Eurodance). He was an American soldier stationed in Germany. Name:Tony Dawson-Harrison.
Went into this expecting this movie would be about Randy Savage only to be disappointed. This movie is clearly false advertisement.
Nothing like a medicine ball to the nuts to begin a work out 0_o
It seems they are actually practicing Ameri-Do-Te.
They really should have been restomping the bad guys' groins.
Practicing, not using. Otherwise we would at least see a level three hurticane in the finale.
This has a major lack of Randy Savage, oh yeah.
As a german native speaker: jeezus, the dialog is horrible
Yes It is! If you understand the Dialog, you truly see how terrible the acting is.
Yes, the deliver is completly deviod of any real human emotion. Dead Wood has more soul than these characters, hence calling the acting "wooden" would be too much of a compliment.
the problem is, that it is sub as well. This is not his real voice. Google him he sounds completely different.
dub not sub. ha ha
As an American with a German heritage, you have my sympathies.
Man, I didn't realize how much I missed Brad doing vintage foreign movies. Looking back, those are some of my favorite episodes.
This was translated by Kiba and no mention of childrens card game.
As president of Kaiba Corp, I declare this invalid.
The fact that PenileDemon proof read the translation was far more attention grabbing to me
You mean "Kaiba" but that was enough tho. xD
Vince DiCola scored Rocky IV. He then went on to score Transformers: the Movie, which featured Stan Bush's "The Touch". Well played, Snob. Well played.
To be fair, Stan Bush's 'The Touch' was originally intended to be used for Stalone's 'Cobra'.
Am I the only german viewer who had the strange feeling watching a german film dubbed by better german voice actors than the original actors?
No but I got the feeling way earlier since I watched the movie way earlier :)
I was going to complain about the lack of Randy Savage references until I saw the end.
I'll take it. Better then nothing.
When's Jake Roberts going to attack Macho Man with the cobra?
And then become a street preacher with a drug problem. And yes, that is a snake in his pants! And he's happy to see you. Verrrrry happy.
Thank you for the last-minute Randy Savage (RIP) reference. I wasn't expecting it, but that just made it all the sweeter, OOH YEAH!
Danke Johanna Gassner! :)
Biddö ^^
anyone notice, the scene in the bank...he dropped the satchel, the next shot it's back in his hands...and then the 3rd shot he's holding it again. WHAT A EDITING CLASSIC!
That break dancing scene makes me want t see you review "No Retreat, No Surrender"
Will this be another Village People biopic?
So did Snob seeing as he already made a reference in the video.
"Hey,hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, macho macho man, i got to be, a macho man"
Can't wait to see that documentary!
I was very dissapointed by the fact that there is no Randy Savage.
Snob I seriously couldn't stop laughing the entire time. This was in my opinion one of your best videos.
Unfortunately he didn't translate the German title @ 3:00 so we missed out on a 'Macho "Hard Fists" Man' joke :)
the line "the action in this film never stops" made me actually laugh out loud
I'm from the Nuremberg area where most of this movie was shot and I recognized a couple of locations used in this. Obviously alot of things have changed beyond recognition by now.

I'm on a Cinema Snob binge, and oh my god, you crack me up! :D
I want to kidnap Brandon tenold to make him do a crossover with snob. The snark levels would be nuclear
Man did the Cinema Snob really brought his A- game to this video.
this feels like a zoolander prequel we will never get
I genuinely have no idea how or where do you find these films!
Well this one is a patreon request as he said
this one was a recommendation
This movie was found on DVD in the German-speaking countries, just keep your eyes open. I found it in a Media Markt for a few bucks and suggested this piece of crap. this one is actually sort of a cultmovie for 35 - 50 year olds here in Germany. Embaressing as shit but fun as fuck with a few buddies and enough beer
That's how I experienced the movie for the first time - with buddies. Really funny, one of the highlights of that movie weekend back then :D
13:58 "What?! Rocky never faced off against a Transformer!"😁
Okay... As a german, i know Rene Weller for quiete some tim and i loved his Trash TV appearances 10-15 years ago. Now i discover this review from my beloved Cinema Snob? Is this real life? WTF? Didn't even knew, Weller did movies. Boooiiiii, am i in for a reaaaaal treat.
that episode was hilarious. "I guess in the battle between boxing and karate, bat wins" thanks for the free entertainment!
these type of reviews are my favourite, awesome job haven't laughed this hard in ages
Thank you for your great review of that classic movie! It has has indeed some serious cult following, especially in my hometown Nuremberg, where it was filmed. It is shown every summer in an open air venue from original film as an event.

I could swear the actors in the movie have been redubbed
Yes, they are.
Brad Jones reviewing a movie about immeasurable violence?
Send for the Man!
Holy fucking shit...
I hoped this fucking thing never crossed our border.
DANKE JOHANNA ;)
Bitte schön :)
nun kommt mein Traum Sunshie Reggae auf Ibiza beim Snob zu sehen doch ein Stück näher ;)

Hat ungefähr dieselbe Qualität eines jeden anderen deutschen 80er Jahre Films ;)
Dude the fuckin music after you said "distract me with some freaky moves", shit was dope!
Can anyone tell me the name of that song that plays before the break? It's really catchy.
I need to know this as well
I was hoping the guy at the typewriter answered the phone like: "Cheh-lohhhh?", ala JJ Evans.
The worlds best break dancer moves like the shopkeepers in Secret of Mana.
I lol'd at that "Bark" part. xD
I was hoping he'd point out that the guy at 16:18 is a dead ringer for John Ritter.
So wanted kung Ti Ted to do a cameo.
You mention Reb Brown but no Spoony reference?
BE-TRAYEEEEEEL!
Wow! This is the first American review about a German movie without a single Nazi/Hitler joke. But seriously, very entertaining and very fun. I like you, Snob/Brad ;-)

I EXPECTED RANDY SAVAGE IN THIS MOVIE GOD DAMMIT!
I speak some German, and yeah the subtitles are basically spot on, as translations go
I did keep predicting it to turn into a porn
No mention of the fact it was proof-read by PenileDemon?
I haven't even started the video yet, and the Village People song is playing in my head
"That break dancing is good, but it's not save a community good."
Jokes referencing prior installments... priceless!
Eh, close enough.
i am from germany and this video is amazing Mr. Cinema Snob. Love your work!
15:15 I'm blanking on it for some reason but I should know this theme! Any help?
If the girlfriends were fighters, too, it would be like an ABBA action squad!
And we call it "KICKING QUEEN!"
So many flashbacks! Apparently the "movie" was shot in Nuremberg. Used to live there. I was drunk in ALL of these places. :-)
I saw this in a cinema in West Germany back in 1985 while stationed there. I am not, nor was I then, fluent in German. Obviously there were no subtitles. It was a glorious experience.
This movie would have been awesome with Rick Rude as the main character.
This was very entertaining. Thanks Brad! I have a question for you, have you ever thought of doing an episode for a movie called Crosswords? It seems right up your alley. Just curious, thanks again Brad.
So, would this movie be worse or better if every part was played by 80's David Hasselhoff?
"His breakdancing is pretty good, but not save-a-community-center good" rotfl :p
That's the most Taekwondo lookin Karate school I've ever seen.
I was going to chastise you for not making a Randy Savage reference in a movie called "Macho Man" but you did make some kind of effort, so I guess it'll do
Was getting really worried. It was getting to the twenty minute mark and no macho man randy savage reference had been made.
So I am german, and I am really into voiceactors.. and turns out the whole movie was dubbed in germany. Must have been really genious acting, when they had to dub it in the same language...
love the title card brad looks hilarious
"Kraftwerk Macaroni and Cheese" I appreciate this joke.
Rocky VS. Starscream... How is that not a thing already? GENTLEMEN, START YOUR PHOTOSHOPS!
Hey brad me and a few friends are shooting a sort of 80's style slasher movie, and we're wondering how the best way to get that "shot on shitteo" look using digital footage. We would film on vhs but we really dont have the equipment for it and reshoots would be a pain in the ass.
Great video! :) "Macho Man 2" is coming! Stay tuned.
Best wishes,
Davide Grisolia / Director of "Macho Man 2"
What, no reference to Glass Joe?
Dude when are you going to FINALLY do Perfect?? Come on...Travolta, Jamie Lee Curtis, tight spandex, aerobics.....what else do you need? :)
Amazing in all aspects
This made my day, thanks Brad!
As a music snob, I remind you that the Beatles toured in Hamburg throughout the late 50s and early 60s.
3:17 - Those guys may not be The Beatles, but shit they got Michael Landau to do the music. I love knowing the musicians who do the music for obscure German action movies.
I think the break dance guy is actually young Captain Hollywood. He was already in Germany at that time.
The "Did he skin a baboon's ass to get that coat" line was too funny for me.
Wait, the martial arts place specializes in "Korean-Karate"? I thought the Korean version of karate of was called "Taekwondo". XD
He did not mention who proofread the translation subtitles. It was translated by Kiba...I dont want to spoil it...But its @18:30. You're welcomed.
Your pronounciation of german names is really good.
Now that you've seen Heart Faust, you NEED to see Faust (the year 2000 one)!
It's a mind scramble bro!
13:07 Which movie were you referring to?
Does anybody know the song playing at 10:19?
Same
"Harte Fäuste" literally translates into "Hard Fists", which funny enough, only ONE movie still shares that exact title & it's from 1927. It's not like they couldn't have used it for this!
2:38 I could stare at that and laugh and not even need to finish the review
R.I.P. René Weller. You was a great Boxer🇩🇪
A Talking Cat!?!?!
I don't know if you've noticed, but all the dialog in this movies seems to be dubbed so we germans have no idea either if the acting is actually good.
It is dubbed. I even can manage to figure out some of the voice actors so the voices don't belong to the actors seen on screen anyway. Unfortunately my DVD doesn't have an alternate original audio track, like "Hercules in New York" with Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Ravishing Rick Rude... did you play a role in this movie?
Push it to The Limit by Paul Engemann AND The Touch by Stan Bush!? It's like my iPod made a cinema snob episode! I look forward to hearing Thunder in Your Heart by John Farnham in next week's episode.
