I think stone sour is often known as the band where corey sings instead of screaming, but that's really innacurate as corey screams A TON in SS especially on the first two records.
I'm a Slipknot fan and I like Stone Sour. I don't feel like I have to hate just because is different from what they do in Slipknot. I'm aware that both bands have their own style and I respect that.
Jim and Corey was in stone sour first and slipknot was doing their own thing. Slipknot beat stone sour in a battle of the bands but clown, joey, and paul, the original founders of slipknot was impressed by corey and wanted a more "radio friendly" voice to replace their vocalist Anders. Corey immediately left Stone Sour to join Slipknot stating that he had seen slipknot performing in clubs around Des Moines and already wanted to be their singer. Jim didnt join Slipknot until after Self Titled was recorded. He does not appear in the iconic self titled picture nor do any of his guitar tracks appear on the record. The only song he did record for was purity which was removed due to legal action from an author and replaced with the track "me inside" which Root does not appear on.
You reaaaaally should check out his song “from can to can't” feat. Corey Taylor, David grohl, Nick Nielsen. If you didn’t yet. I can’t describe how beautiful that song is. I really feel sorry for people who don’t know that song lol , you don’t have to react to it if you don’t want to. But YOU HAVE TO check it out and you can listen to the song from the video where he was recording it. You can actually see him singing there. It’s melodic Corey btw lmao (:
This video is a reminder for me to listen to more Stone Sour. I've put off them for so long and no reason to it tbh Fun Fact: These songs were made when Jim Root was in the band. Jim likes to 'Noodle' on the guitar quite a bit, especially in Slipknot. Its very easy to notice at times. Jim left Stone Sour in 2014 because of how he was feeling being a part of the band. He was unhappy with juggling between bands and it affected the other members of Stone Sour, and so he decided it was best to leave the group. Update: I just noticed you mentioned about Jim at 15:52, my bad.
Jim Rootand Corey were in Stone Sour first. Slipknot was actually already a group without them. Craig (Pinhead) played guitar. Later they parted ways with their first vocalist who sounded like Phil from Pantera and replaced him with Corey. Jim came with Corey and then boom the Slipknot we know now existed.
As a big Slipknot AND Stone Sour fan, I can tell you most Stone Sour fans like Slipknot, while most maggots blame Stone Sour for the reason Slipknot went "soft". Meanwhile I'm glad you got to experience this, people hear bother and through glass and assume Stone Sour is Corey's Pop side project. Stone sour is very much a *hard* rock band, and can hold their own against Slipknot in heaviness at times. Also the lead guitarist for this band is... Jim the phantom Root!!! He was in the original Stone Sour, and was also their lead guitarist for 5 out of their 6 records when they reformed. Leaving the band for their 6th stating "the guys in that band only want to play soft radio rock, one dudes only in it for the money, and Corey and I would have killed eachother if I had stayed in both bands". Stone Sour has now gone on indefinite hiatus so Corey can do his solo thing and I'm sad
Stahp apologizing lmao. Some people love guitar solos, some people don't. it seems apparent you like drums and you have a heavy focus on lyrics. That is totally fine. I prefer slip knot to stone sour, but I also don't dislike stone sour or wish he would only cater to heavier metal fans. Dude is talented, let him spread his wings in different genres. A suggestion, if you are doing two parters! 'I won't see you tonight' parts 1 and 2 by avenged sevenfold. It is about the attempted suicide of one of their band members. He had to leave the band after to receive mental wellness councilling. The first half is his perspectivd and the second is theirs. The saddest part is that one of the key writers of 'I won't see you tonight' died from a drug overdose soon after; and some people think it was suicide. Its an excellent lyrical song with alot of technical skill.
Jim was initially unhappy with Corey's decision to join Slipknot. Also after that, Jim several times refused to also join Slipknot, but then still agreed. I may be confusing something or I could forget something, but it seems that it was so
Stone Sour Corey is generally speaking less angry than Slipknot Corey but I’m sure you’ve figured that out by now. Jim has since left Stone Sour citing too much stress in trying to be in (and write for) both bands and he and Corey clashing about it. At the end of the day it was mutually decided that for the sake of both of the bands as well as their friendship Jim would leave Stone Sour and focus on writing riffs for Slipknot. It’s all good now no more animosity there. If you are really struggling to come up with names for Corey’s vocal range I urge you to check out his solo album “CMFT” without spoiling anything you get a bit of everything on there. You’ve already heard “Home” off of it. Last thing, on a personal note I’m originally from Iowa, I was a Slipknot fan before I ever knew about Stone Sour. We’re talking late nineties here so the radio was still a good way to hear new songs and the internet didn’t contain anything you wanted to know. So I heard Bother on the radio having no idea it was the same singer. So you’re not alone in that bit of surprise. Bonus fact about me: I was 10 going on 11 in 1999 when “Wait and Bleed” hit MTV (remember when they actually had music videos?) that was my introduction to Slipknot and therefore Corey Taylor.
Thanks for sharing! I've been to Iowa a few times (my brother lived there a couple years) and this car with tinted windows passed on the highway, and I was convinced it was Slipknot. :D Oh, right, MTV. I used to watch MTV2's Rock Countdown and found a lot of cool bands from that---namely Breaking Benjamin, which I've been obsessed with ever since. Obsessed.
@@MusicCatsandCoffee Breaking Benjamin is very good. Can’t surpass Slipknot for me personally though. It’s funny you mention Slipknot in a vehicle. Look up the “hot bag” story on UA-cam that Corey told at a solo show. I’d link it but it’s one of those things where I kinda don’t wanna be responsible for the potential scarring haha. It’s not that bad just kinda gross, yet still hilarious.
Ok, so these are the opening tracks to 'House of Gold & Bones - part 1 (there is also a part 2). These albums are unique to Stone Sour in that they are purely concept albums. I believe Corey took the narrative from these albums and (with some help) turned them into a comic book. As a devout Maggot I will always prefer Slipknot, however, as a music lover I believe there's enough room in this world for all genres. Look forward to the next reaction 🖤 Edit: maybe you could start an online support group "Hi, my name's........and I'm addicted to Corey Taylor!"
I'm a huge Slipknot fan, but I like quite a few Stone Sour songs. In fact, both of these songs I really enjoy. "Bother" was the first song I heard by them and I remember waiting for it to explode into chaos like Slipknot, but it didn't and I actually didn't mind. I will say that a lot of their songs are little too soft or "love song-y" for me, but overall, it's a good project.
@@MusicCatsandCoffee I think that was their first single, now that I think about it. Then I got the CD and was surprised by songs like "Get Inside" which were closer to Slipknot-heavy.
This maggot loves all Corey Freaking Taylor. Slipknot is easily my favorite, but I love Stone Sour (Bother would be a good reaction but you might remember it from the first Spider-Man movie...), CMFT, and songs where he’s featured in. Yes Jim The Phantom Root was in Stone Sour for a while but wanted to focus on Slipknot.
do me a favor, 30/30-150, fabuless, digital (did you tell), made of scars, tired. im a fan of both slipknot and stone sour and have seen them both live in concert
You should check out Hate Not Gone and Home Again off of their third album. As for them being heavy, they can get pretty heavy at times although you won't hear things like Disasterpiece or Prosthetics from this band.
I know you said you're not big on guitar solos but you got to listen to Mick Thomson s(aka the undertaker) solo for Vermilion vol1 from day of the Gusano. Watch the video, trust me you won't be disappointed. I love this band.
And if you want someone that has a million voices check out mike Patton of faith no more/ Mr. bungle/ mondo cane/ peeping Tom/ fantomas/ tomahawk/ and many more. He has 6 octave range. Higher than axle rose, Freddie mercury and Mariah Carey
Is it Ben? It's Ben, I know it, lol. How about Hard Corey for the voice you are looking to name? Oh and when you mention Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon my appreciation for you went up even further. I grew up on that album but oddly enough it is not my favorite Floyd album, that would have to be Wish You Were Here. Shine On Your Crazy Diamond has a special place in my heart. I may tell you about it someday. ;) FYI, check your "inactive" IG.
It's actually not Ben Burnley, even though I adore that man with every fiber of my being. He's probably #2 and Corey #3. But don't quote me on that. I'd have to really think about it. Pink Floyd! David Gilmour is a god who walks among us. I really like his voice too! Isn't that song like 20 mins? :D
I think stone sour is often known as the band where corey sings instead of screaming, but that's really innacurate as corey screams A TON in SS especially on the first two records.
stone sour - inhale
Got it, thanks! :)
I'm a Slipknot fan and I like Stone Sour. I don't feel like I have to hate just because is different from what they do in Slipknot. I'm aware that both bands have their own style and I respect that.
Know why? Because you're awesome. :)
They used to be heavier. "Orchids" is a good example. Or "Get Inside"
Got it, thanks! :)
Corey has unlimited voices 😂 "echo corey"😂😂 another banger lauren
Please react to Stone Sour - Orchids and Inhale! My favourite songs from this band and Corey just amazing here
Got it, thanks! :)
Huge slipknot fan, I love stone sour just as much, but shit its CMFT, so it's going to crush no matter what kind of corey you have names for
Agreed.
Jim and Corey was in stone sour first and slipknot was doing their own thing. Couldn't agree with this more.
Ah, ok. Thanks for the info! :)
For this maggot I like both bands. I would suggest 30/30 150 or Scars both great songs!
Got it, thanks! :)
yeah the part where it starts going, 'yeahhh...' is where it bleeds into 'Absolute Zero'
Zzyzx road is a great song by stone sour. Brought me to tears a few times

The first album has very heavy tracks. Get inside is killer. But yes stone sour has very heavy moments
Got it, thanks! :)
We love this band too. It show his range.
