ukraine can´t win a full scale military operation with russia (no nukes)
so they have to enforce a "remis"-situation with/via higher russian loses (than current)
they spent probably 1/3 of their offensive equipment and ~ 40 % of their infantry ressources
a well-operated defensive battle-plan could give them time to accumulate a relevant counter-effect-force
.... i doubt this is working well right now
and the ukrainian "masters" may just want to do some more damage to russia and its black sea position

The day the soviet union disbanded was a tragedy for the world. Russia needs to go all the way to Iceland and take Odessa and link with Transnistria.

How do you even get all this info?
The frontline positions to east of Ocheretyne - especially along the railroads was an extremely well prepared defensive position. While the battle of Avdiivka was going on, those positions along the railway were considered extremely powerful and nothing to assault in a casual way.
Whatever went wrong with the 115 Ukrainian Brigade in that area, I find it doubtful that it had anything to do with the strength of its defensive positions.
Robotyne was a linchpin of Ukranian defense on the front.

I would disagree with Weeb Union for the important cities, the main city that controls a lot of territory is Kostyantynivka, not Novomykhailivka, because if Kostyantynivka falls everything between Velika Novosilka and Mar'inka would be unusable road and empty terrain. For Russians it doesn't even need Kostyantynivka to fall but simply to be at artillery range to be bombarded and road that goes throught the city to be unusable.
