I love this vehicle. So well designed, and from an era when Toyota was top reliability. Might not be the prettiest thing but definitely could outlive most owners if treated nicely.
Lovely little survivor and great order for 196'000km/121'000 miles, we got a heap of these in NZ as 2nd hand imports, never ceases to amaze me the endless specification variation the Japanese offer on any one model, base spec is always the winner for me though, simple is always best.
Thanks for having me discover that car I never heard about. For sure, it's really minimalist. But I'm fond of this kind of basic cars that are easy to maintain and built to last forever. 10/10 would adopt as a daily driver. 👌
I live in the Philippines and we have a 2005 Toyota Revo wagon. 5-speed manual transmission with a 2L 2.4 OHC 8V I4. We've had her since new and she is now called Black Betty. On the highway, she gets around 40 mpg or 17 kml. In 2010 she was in a flood with water about 4 feet high. After getting her detailed we had to replace the starter motor. She's never let us down and the only time we were stranded on the highway was when the big dummy writing this forgot to get fuel. Best car in my 50 years of driving and Black Betty will outlive me.
In Europa this model is called ‘Carina E’ 😊 There was LOADS of these on the roads, also in Wagons, for 10-15 years ago, but now a days they are scrapped, or exported to Africa
Here in Perú we used to import them used from Japan and convert them to LHD. You can still see them around, specially in rural áreas and they still cost a pretty penny. That 2C engine Will run easilly 500k miles + if propperly maintained.
Interesting to see how agricultural that thing is compared to the European Carina E even though it has 4wd. My family has 94 Carina E GLI 1.6L wagon like that but it's FWD, however it shares the body with the Caldina since it seems like you could retrofit the 4wd system to our Carina. Apparently they made the wagon versions in Japan atleast up until 94. Many of the sedans and other body types were made in the UK. Interior of the Carina E is much more "luxurious" compared to that Caldina. Some parts are completely different like the dash, steering wheel and doorcards. I heard that the Carina E was in between the Corolla and Camry, Camry being the highest tier and the most expensive and Corolla the least.

We agree! Glad you enjoyed
