    THIS WAS SO GOOD
    ONLY THE GREATS
THE PHRASED B5s from vanessa at the end kinda killed me off after this whole video of just amazing projection and high notes
Sohyang breathes F5s and mixes C6s at all times no effort the woman is inhuman
Patti, aretha, sohyang and vanessa take the soprano crown
Whitney, Lara Fabian and Barbra streisand have SO MUCH PROJECTION and their vibratos (especially whitney's and barbra's) are so fast and add a certain Power to the belt
I need to go glue my edges back on this was on a whole other level of belting and mixing greatness
ALSO MARIAH AND NATALIE COMING THROUGH WITH THE AGILITY
NATALIE DEFYING GRAVITY G#5 RUN WTF YOU DOING that was so amazing I had to reply 5 times and try 5 times (in my falsetto cause I'm not an alien like her) and she was just sitting casually doing the msot complex run broadway has ever seen x_x
They shoulda added mariah's G5 from the old recording of All In Your Mind the best G5 she has ever delivered and the less mixed and more belty G5 from her too ( If it had vibrato i'd be one of the best belted G5s ive ever heard)

There's an amazing studio recording of Streisand working out that final song from the clip, "Since I Fell For You," and she's not getting to the note correctly and coming in sharp, so the producer Richard Perry says to her "let's do one more take of that, Barbra."
And Streisand of course says "what was wrong with it, Richard?" and I mean, who can tell Streisand that the note wasn't great? Come to think of it, how can a producer tell any of these women that a note wasn't right? And in between takes she's singing it to herself trying to figure out a way to make the emotion and the melody work together and it's just a fascinating bit of listening to someone at the absolute top of her game work through a problem.

I may have been wrong and I only had an audio copy of it rather than video, but I'm sure some fan out there has it. The entire thing is probably about 10 minutes long and if I find it, I'll be sure to link it for you.
If you're interested, there's also rehearsal audio of her and Sondheim working through "Move On" from Back to Broadway and they have a lot of back and forth--great look into their creative process. I'd bet some of it has been uploaded to UA-cam.

There's Streisand, and then there's everyone else... for me anyway. It is so much more than just the money notes and runs that makes a great singer. It's how did you tell the story of the song and evoke an emotion in me. It's the nuances and subtleties. It's the softer, sustained, lower register notes that pull me in like the ebbing tide out to sea, before rushing me back in with the force of that one tidal wave. Barbra is a master at performing, not just singing. That's a rarity... especially today. Great reaction vid. 😊

    • @Ninafan68
      @Ninafan68 9 місяців тому +2

I agree with you. I love Aretha, Whitney and Mariah but they come from the gospel school of singing. I love it but in the end, they all sing alike. But Barbra has a style of her own. No one sings like her. She never took a lesson in her life, she didn't even want to become a singer, she wanted to be an actress. So, her lackadaisical attitude towards singing plays a part in her appeal. When she arrives on a stage, you can almost feel that she doesn't want to be there but that she does it for the fans. Still, there's that voice, completely natural, or surnatural, that she doesn't even know how she produce it and that voice is magic. But she doesn't care about that : all she cares about is telling a story. All those elements are what makes her so unique. She is so extraordinary that she is almost a historical figure.

@@donnamentrasti2695 I agree but we can try. Have you read her biography? It made me appreciate her more. For me, what fascinates me the most is the fact that her voice was fully formed at 18 and her delivery too. Right from her first performance at The Lion, she already had her interpretation, her hand gestures and her incredible magnitism down. She was fully formed, right from the start. I used to be a singer on cruise ships myself. I loved to sing and crazed for success and recognition. Of course, it never happened (don't beleive in clichés like "believe in your dreams".... No, dreams rarely come true). But to see someone so gifted naturally and not even wanting it (I mean, the singing part of her career) is what I find the most outstanding. How can you be so gifted and not want to share it with the world? Why didn't she want to become a singer in the first place? Is it because it was too easy for her? There is no challenge in singing for her? That's a question I would love to ask her.

I will have to say that its a matter of preference because Sohyang and my opinion can belt even A10 if she wants to but never in her life does her belting has that ring and resonance and open vowels that Mariah Has. She can belt high but does it sound pleasant ? No because it sounds like screaming compared to Mariah.
The most pleasant of them all in my opinion are Mariah, Whitney and Barbra because it never sounds like screaming or shouting
