That halfway scrape.. Oh my, I feel like that just changed everything for me.. Even molds much larger, with different materials, I never thought to do that. I always had trouble with my material popping out and distorting if I tried to scrape the top. Thank you!
Very funny you say make and keep as I was doing the same thing earlier this week. Only I got frustrated with thin shallow leaves so I gave up for awhile. The scrapping some out on the swipe repeatedly. Thank you for the wet finger release tip. That may have been problem. Thanks for a really good video on this. The deep impression tips were also good.
Fantastic pro tips as always, Pam! I’m amazed that you’re able to get the greenware out of the very deep molds with undercuts without breaking any of the undercut edges.
Just as I was wondering how did she know how much clay to put into each mold she actually said that she'd put too much clay into that one mold. This was so helpful. I really enjoyed watching it. Using that rose mold someone could make a really pretty ring.
This is fantastic, thank you so much for the tutorial! Just starting my journey with precious metal clay and can’t wait to try this out. I’d love to make pendants out of these molds, so I’d need to add a little ring on top of them - is that possible to do after the clay dries and I take it out of the mold?
Most of these molds are really too small to use on thier own. They need to be attached to something a little bigger. Even a little circle of clay would work. If you want slightly bigger molds search "small silicone molds" on Etsy. Lots of variety and a little bigger than these teeny tiny ones. To add a ring, I usually use an embeddable eyelet. Here's a link. cooltools.us/products/silver-embeddable-eyelet-1?variant=42031829942460
Absolutely brilliant and useful video Pam. This very afternoon I failed to get clay into tiny angel moulds and now I not only know why, but also how to do it successfully tomorrow! Can’t thank you enough.
I have seen people use liquid sculpy in molds. However sculpy is entirely different it is a polymer clay. You also have to bake it in the mold so you would have to check the silicone temp.
Hey that is a pretty tricked out organizer behind you. Is that one of those fold out cabinets, or did you just build your shelving like that? Thanks for another great video!
That cabinet behind me is a DreamBox. I ADORE it! Here's a link: www.createroom.com/products/dreambox Also, if you reach out to Desiree Rienhard she can hook you up with a sweet discount. Just tell her I sent you. facebook.com/desiree.florio.35
I've had these moulds for quite a while and never used them cos they're so tiny and looked so complicated but I'm Gona use them now after Ur video cos u make it look so easy do thank u for that👌💖
I am a silversmith new to PMC. Thank you for the fantastic tutorial! Can any of these torch fired and then soldered to sterling pieces? Thanks so much!!!
You can torch these if you have a very deft hand with a torch. But they are TINY and are just as likely to melt into a tiny ball. I kiln fired a bunch of them and sent them to a smith friend who soldered them onto sterling jewelry. So know that's possible.
Terrific tips! I'm so glad I found your video before I tried it, I'm much more confident to do it myself! I subscribed to your channel, and looking forward to more!
love your tutorials... As a newbie you've helped my learning curve immensely... PS I cant find the tiny dragon fly mold anywhere? could you point me in their direction? Thanks Jodie
Hi Pam - love your informative videos! The box tutorial on Craftcast that you mention - is that the hinged box tutorial (which I own) or is there another class which explains this shadowbox type pendant? Thanks!
It's unfortunate these wonderful little molds have been less available post-pandemic. you can still find lots though, including roses, on Etsy. Just search etsy for "Tiny Flower Molds" and you will find dozens of them!
When I made this video the molds were everywhere and cheap. The molds have been increasingly difficult to find since the pandemic. I'm having the best luck on Etsy. Try search terms like "Tiny rose mold" and "3D nail Art Mold rose"
I wipe my fingers off with a damp sponge. Once it gets saturated with silver I rinse it out in a cup. The silver settles to the bottom and I can pour off the water and recover the silver.
@PamEast dear Pam, can you show it, if it's not inconveniont? 🙈😅 I know it's a stupid question, but I need visualisation 🤦♀️ I can't picture how you can extract the silver from the water. I would lose a lot of silver. Is copper the same methode? Thanks in advance.
Hi! 😃 Thank you for generously sharing your knowledge with us! I'm a silk artist and I'm thinking about getting the pmc's to add some langiappe to my silks. I've watched your videos and I'm excited to learn about the clays.....especially making my own jewelry! I'm interested in making my own jewelry because I am not a fan of the normal "run-of-the-mill" jewelry. I just recently learned about the pmc's and your channel has sooooooo much info - Thank you for that! BTW, it would be EXTREMELY distressing if your fingers left your hands! I'm happy to say that in this video this did not happen😁 Confused??? Your comment: 8:27 - "....at no time will my fingers leave my hands..." 🙂 🙃 🙂
Oh Dear God! What did you put on your head? I laughed till I cried. I Couldn't tell what it was?. LOL because I watched it at 3 in mourning and my vision was really bad from looking at the screen for many hours.
Ok so I made some of these teeny little things. Do you just kiln fire them with the larger pieces? I tried one with a torch and well, you know what happened.
Yes, I can imagine what happened! These tiny elements are intended to be attached to larger pieces BEFORE they are fired. Check out this CraftCast for more information: www.craftcast.com/recordings/learn-create-scenic-pendants-3-metal-clays
I was hoping to make a bunch of small components with this technique to use on tradition silver pieces. But I see in the comments that you can’t torch fire these. Is that correct?

Love the tutorial but please please do not say ahhh umm every 3rd and 4th word, it is so distracting trying to listening to you. As a teacher this is something you must be aware of all all times.

You have solved all the issues I have had. I will try later and follow what I learned here.
Thank you and subscribed.
Glad I could help!
Groovy baby
Thanks!
Pam! You are a blessing. Thanks for all your helpful advice.
You are so welcome

My pleasure!
This was really very helpful, thank you 🙏
Glad it was helpful!
For the deep ones what about making a thinner more watery clay to go into the molds easier? Would that work?
No, it doesn't work well at all. I've tried it. The results come out crumbly. You want to use dense clay for this.
I have seen people use liquid sculpy in molds. However sculpy is entirely different it is a polymer clay. You also have to bake it in the mold so you would have to check the silicone temp.

the hinged box tutorial has the shadowbox as a bonus. So you already have it! Just go look at the bonus content. :)

Fantastic video, thank you! Can I ask about the clay you have on your fingers - how do you get that off to save & re-use?
I wipe my fingers off with a damp sponge. Once it gets saturated with silver I rinse it out in a cup. The silver settles to the bottom and I can pour off the water and recover the silver.

I do tend to get a bit silly at times. LOL! I'm glad my videos have been helpful to you!
Hi, I love your video's. I would love to buy deep little flowers, do you recomment an etsy shop or amazon link? Thank you
I find more of what I am looking for on Etsy. search "tiny 3d nail art molds"
Tbank you how long do you dehydrate ?
they are dry within 15 to 20 minutes.
Hi. Which metal clay brand u r using??😊
I use Art Clay Silver pretty much exclusively
Oh Dear God! What did you put on your head? I laughed till I cried. I Couldn't tell what it was?. LOL because I watched it at 3 in mourning and my vision was really bad from looking at the screen for many hours.

They are usually dry in 15 to 20 minutes.
well of course things also happen to you!!! imagine that...

got it
Didn't bother me at all. Then again, I probably do it as well when public speaking or trying to come up with thoughts on the fly. 🤷♀️
@dawsie What? How darn rude and ungrateful you are!
