- Hello and Welcome to the Capital Wasteland!
Today I will be going through the unmarked quest "A Manhandled Manservant". This quest begins at Tenpenny Tower, is given by Herbert Daring Dashwood and takes us to the underground city of Rockopolis, enjoy!

There are so many things I love about this little side quest.
1. The fact that it is just a side quest that is unmarked so its up to you to find it, meaning you'd only ever find Rockopolis if you were interested or found it on accident so its not really an important situation, just checking in on an old man's friend.
2. The fact that all the radio show episodes were true which makes them more enjoyable even if they're clearly a little fabricated and makes the Capital Wasteland a little more interesting because there actually was an underground city that unfortunately got ransacked. Given that they were sent to the Pitt, you likely met descendants of these people which is cool but sad to think about.
3. The fact that Herbert is not only honest that Argyle was the MVP of their duo but is also greatly saddened by his death. You'd think he'd be an idiot, mad that Argyle stole his glory but he is self aware enough to realize his friend carried him and clearly cared enough to worry about him and be saddened by his death. Makes Herbert a really likable character when we actually meet him and the fact that his adventures were real makes him even more interesting, he really did fight slavers and find underground cities. Who knows what else he found before his last adventure.
It could just be the super hero nerd in me, but the fact that real life super heroes and villains, as well as radio pulp heroes actually exist in Fallout 3 as well as aliens really makes me like Fallout 3 a lot. Where Newvegas has a more thought out and interesting story with each faction having their own motivations and reasons for why they want to have Vegas, 3 definitely has a lot of imagination and fun to it. I think the closest these two ever get to combining is Old World Blues with its wackiness but also the way it actually connects to the wider world and other DLC stories.
Yeah bro, Fallout 3 is in fact a great fallout game like FNV and don't let anyone poison your likings, that's why im really disappointed with F4 and F76, those games really spoil the name fallout
Herbert "Daring" Dashwood and Argyle are largely based off of the Green Hornet and Kato (played by Bruce Lee hence why Argyle knows martial arts), but done as a radio show in the vein of the Lone Ranger and his partner Tonto as The Lone Ranger started as a radio show before moving on to TV.
The Green Hornet is actually a descendant of the Lone Ranger. The Reid Family fortune started with a silver mine.
Green Hornet was a radio show before tv as well :)
@@brendanreeves6785 the Green Hornet is the grandnephew of the Lone Ranger
knew the "sidekick who knows martial arts that is believed to be more combat effective than his superior" structure reminded me of something
After playing Fallout 3 for years, this is the first time I found out you can find Argyle. Makes me sad to know he died.
You've never gotten all 20 bobbleheads before? Unarmed is literally on his corpse.
@@aaronwishard7093 *while doing bobble heads* “hmmm dead ghoul”
*after seeing this vid*
“Aw man! Argyle!? Noooo!”
@@jiib7770 the thing is I'm pretty sure that dead ghoul is actually named Argyle.
@@dragonkingf3 yes I’m not stupid
You should’ve talked about how I’d the ghouls invade Tenpenny Tower, he’s the only resident to put up a fight besides Alistair himself
Ngl Dashwood mourning Argyle made me tear up a bit. in-game I thought of him as a clueless, chauvinistic, throw-back to saturday morning cartoons and radio shows and of course he was. But now I realized they played me and he was a genuinely honest and open-minded wasteland hero. So was Argyle. Now his "chump" denial at the beginning makes me think he just feels real guilty.
When ever I hear "Bad form," I think of Hook. When Dustin Hoffman says, "Bad form, Old Man. Bad form. "
Sub earned and man is it deserved. Really enjoyable, even just to listen to. You have a great voice for narration.
I fear my last girlfriend may have been a ghoul...a very nice girl, but she can get a bit err.....umm a bit feral...I still have the scars. Fortunately, I can run fast...
I would love a spin off set in the capital wasteland where you play as Herbert or Argyle and you get to go through all their adventures
"The Fallout Adventures: Oldman"
Dude! Your sub count has jumped up by 3k just in the last couple days!! Keep up the great work!
in all the broadcasts i hear herbert seemed like a useless fool who always got them into trouble, and for some reason argyle would follow him and make sure he stayed safe, until herbert got him killed.
What I fucking love about this quest is that if you side with Roy during the Tenpenny quest Herbert gets killed off, what even the point of that quest to literally just kill of a settlement and get nothing in return
Literally nothing positive comes out of that outcome, even in-universe. Yay, you just let a bunch of bloodthirsty apathetic killers slaughter a bunch of innocents and take over their tower and you should feel good about it
Herbert is exactly like Bruce Campbell in trouble in Little China, he thinks he's the protagonist but the "sidekick" always does the heavy lifting.
Jack Burton was played by Kurt Russel, not Bruce Campbell. Also while his "sidekick" Wang did most of the ass-kicking don't forget that it was Jack who faced down and killed the main bad guy while Wang kept his henchman Thunder busy.
"Dave's not here man." XD
So... He's Fallout's *ADAM WESSSSST?*
BATMAN!
The sole reason i never let roy into tempany tower
Kind of wish Argyle ended up surviving. It could have been left ambiguous and explored in a different game since he's a ghoul it could be a game set later after Dashwood passed away. I think having Argyle in a later installment in the franchise, possibly as a companion much like Charon from FO3, would have been incredible. You could've learned The Eagle Claw as an unarmed move from him lol.
I wanted to find him but didnt know how. Glad you can.
Dashwood has big Matt Berry energy
Ah yes longer form lore content 👌
My first play through I found Rockopolis by accident and I had no idea Argyle was in there.
Pepin, is that you?
The German Dub of the Audioplay removed all Sound Effects, which gave it some awkward silence Moments.
I'm here! 😎 Great video, just posting a comment to show some support! Keep up the good work. 🤙
Phew, thought I clicked on an Oxhorn video.
This is much better
I hate the minute oxhorn gives that fake "oh my gosh this is horrible" every time anything dark happens in the games.
@@dragonkingf3 It's like the 'Oh No! Anyway...' meme.
Difference is that Jeremy Clarksons “oh no, anyway” is actually funny
Speaking of Argyle, his skill would be Sneak 100 Lockpicking 100 and Unarmed 100 base on drama mention
I wonder what I'd you revived argyle and see what happens
I tried this myself years ago and he just has a generic dialogue of "Hey"
Something i never understand its on the x box base game and on the steam version, dashwood show on te radio its in french...
And its funny because im spanish and i just got like 3 words of all the stories on gnr about dash, and i dont understand why.... the entire game its on spanish (or in english if you want) but the terrible shotgun and the dash stories are in french.
Is this in the Spanish translation?
@@____________838 yep, in the spanish base game you hear dashwood sometimes in spanish but most of the time in french.
@@bocktordaytona5656 Ohhhhh! Wow, that’s weird.
Love the hunting rifle from FNV. Ammo is common like in FO3 but the gun itself does more damage and gets mods. Super mutants won't laugh at you when you haven't upgraded to something better because the game failed to point you in a direction to do that in your first playthrough. Thank you Dark Souls!
The safe can only be stolen from and it conflicts with the dialogue with Dashwood. Well done Bugthesda, you've failed to 100% yet again, why am I not surprised?
About the last sentence, shut up, please. No one wants to read this stuff.
Of course they were shipped to Pittsburgh how else are you going to give a story a grim ending? Send them to Philly?
Argyle is such a funny name
I love how the female voice actor is a man like how it would be for the time period in game. Shit missed it: she’s also a man!!!😂
Ngl, Herbert sounding so sad about his old friend passing splits my heart 😭😭
I'm sorry to say this but I think synonymous is better than oxhorn
Edit I get hate I dont care
That dude accidentally became a fallout UA-camr, he basically got lucky and retroactively played all the games, he didn't care about it.
The worst kind of creator is the ones who just fall to it without any passion.
@@lasarousi Dude was such a fallout 76 apologist, it was plain to see with how much the game was shit.
It’s the fact they kill Dashwood that makes me hate doing the “good” run of the Tenpenny Tower quest.
What’s even worse, is that if you kill all the ghouls to save Herbert and the rest of the residents, Three Dog will talk poorly of you every time that segment of the radio comes on!
It’s really a lose-lose situation.
I'd rather tolerate 3mutts bad mouthing me than have dashwood get unalived by those ghouls
Zombies don't have feelings bub
I just shoot that ghoul in the head the moment I get to tenpenny then I head up abd shoot tenpenny too. It never gets mentioned.
@@TheHuffmanator these aren't zombies, they're sentient. They're only called ghouls because of how they look.
@@luckystar9279 Ferals aren't sentient bub
I never knew you could find Argyle
Not exactly the easiest corpse to find!
@@Synonymous101 the absolute worst, I remember spending days looking for boulder city.
@@TheNateness123 Id Imagine so, you were looking in the wrong wasteland.
@@LostShipMate ha! You're right - brain fart.
Indeed it is quite difficult to notice his body the poor bloke
lets just say 100000x better than oxhorn
Oh hell yes
That's because Oxhorn is frankly just a page from the Wikipedia as a person. This guy is some of that, but he also presents most of the lore as well. So when you click on a video, it's not click bait, and it's genuine content. Also, unlike Oxhorn, he doesn't stretch a video topic that would normally just be a 10-20 minute video into an hour and half. So yeah, waaaaaaaay better than Oxhorn.
Edit: also, his voice is silky smooth, and he doesn't talk purposely slow like Oxhorn does
@@theace8502 Also doesn't mod his game to oblivion so it doesn't even resemble Fallout 3 like Oxhorn does :)
Its fun to watch Oxhorn play something Ive never played before because he does his show like it is for little kids so he looks at and explains literally every single thing at great length.
But I hate watching him play or talk about a game if I have played it for longer than a few minutes. Because he actually plays games like a jackoff.
Can someone point me to when it became cool to hate on Oxhorn?
Becuase I get the feeling that is it most likely after TKS mantis made that video (y'know the one that got his channel a LOT of traffic) moaning about how Oxhorn made a mistake because of a mod, and that he makes long form videos.
As if those issues...matter...to anyone.
And if that is Really the reason then... I'm going to be Very dispointed in the Fallout community.
I really wish Dashwood's adventures continued beyond the last episode. The five episodes are fun and it just seemed their adventures stopped so dramatically.
It’s like we just got the last few episodes.
If you're hungry for more stuff like that get the a-bomb radio phone app. It's an internet radio with lots old timey music, original fallout themed radio plays and the DJ is three-dog. I'm not even kidding, they hired the voice actor to reprise his role and record dialogue for the radio.
I hope the 'Eagle Claw' was done that way on purpose. So over top and yet subdued enough for a radio show.
It definitely was
A really enjoyable video. The way you cover the lore and even play the broadcast in full instead of summarizing it makes it very comprehensive. Another thing that i really enjoy is how you break up the lore-heavy segments with what the player can find via looting, like we're following along trying to discover the lore for ourselves. Please keep up the good work
I feel like Argyle was the main character in their duo. I mean, look at what happened after his death, Herbert just settles down and rots in his apartment safe and away from anything that could hurt him
I mean what else could you do if you were in your mid 70s in a post apocalyptic world. If I was an old man I'd wanna be as safe as possible as well. It wasn't like he could halt his aging like Argyle could anyway
@@DvHarris-uw3ze Thank you.
I mean seriously, the guy is in his 60's/70's and his travelling partner is dead. Can you really blame the man for wanting to spend his last few years in comfort and security?
Young Herbert sounds like Finn and Jake's dad, Joshua.
Side quests like these are what make fallout the best game ever
Ya it's sad it's so hated
@@lafox2833 i don't think so, yeah may be for fallout 4
@@svenandersen fo3 fo4 fo76 are pretty hated
@@lafox2833 Because Bethesda peaked at 3, and the more titles they produce, the more they prove that their creation engine is horribly outdated, and that they keep going away from what made Fallout, Fallout.
Example: In 1/2, while there may have been whacky stuff going on, most of those random encounters were non canon.
But in Fallout 3? Not only are the Zetans real. It's implied that they are the cause of the Great War. Rather than being a folly of man not learning a lesson given to us in 1945.
In Fallout, every other game, you're explicitly told that Ghouls are people. They need to eat and drink. In Fallout 4, that damn Kid in a Fridge quest.
Or how about the fact that Fallout 76 had 0 NPCs for like the 1st 2-3 years, until Wastelands came out, when some of the best stories in *any* Fallout game are through an NPC?
I'd go on but I think I made my point. Bethesda fallout does deserve criticism for things. It's just that some people take it a bit too far. Like Fallout 3 and the Rockopolis unmarked locality
I never knew rockopolis existed wtf
Your profile pic epitomizes your statement.
New sub , binging your content. Great stuff mate.
Good videos surprised you don't have more views these are wonderful
Rockopolis should be mentioned again
I think it was the radio drama of Herbert and Argyll that initially piqued my interest in old-timey serial adventures.
Ever heard X minus one?
@@MediumRareOpinions
Yup, although my favorite is Johnny Dollar.
Played fallout 3 for at least 900 plus hours. Never found argyle...never realized how much I wanted to give that old fart daring a hug 😥
You are better than oxhorn now support bro keep making more follout content
That's weird the dialoge to tell Dashwood that Argyle is dead never shows up for me for some reason.
I love this mans voice sm
Just realized that he looks like Elijah
Those tales are amazing to sleep to, I started falling asleep and it appeared in a DreamWorks comic format
Herbert seems like the kind of character I can see being the playable character in a previous fallout game. Like deacon in fallout 4.
Why does it give you negative karma if he gave you the key! Great video tho!
Probably a bug in the game.
@@AlonzoTompkins There are no bugs, only features.
The shady sands shuffle??
Slipping a live grenade into someone's pocket. You can actually do it yourself if your sneak's good enough ;D What I'm curious about is how in the hell Argyle learned about Shady Sands when it's clear on the other side of the damn country! Even for a ghoul, that's a long way through some exceptionally dangerous terrain!
@@Archris17 It's possible that Argyle heard about Shady Sands via the NCR. Even though Fallout 3 takes place far away from California, the NCR is still large enough that word of them would get around, especially to an old ghoul, and given the significance of Shady Sands within the NCR, it's not unthinkable that Argyle would come up with it. Of course there's every chance that Argyle was born near, or spent his younger days in California and moved to the Capital Wasteland later.
Thanks for letting all the radio story play it was neat. I ran into Dashwood in tenpenny tower but had forgotten his story. I remember wishing argyle was alive still cause he seemed like an interesting and good hearted person
Excellent video.
What sort of uncultured peasant would skip over the radio play?!
The radio play added nothing, I'm not going to waste people's time if I can help it 👍
I really feel bad for Herbert for him losing friend like that.
Not now, babe.
Herbert Daring Dashwood is on the radio.
Damm never knew about this and i just hella interested in the first few minutes.
like the content
"Ghouls gone bad"
hahehe
EAgLe CLaaAWWWWW
He was the only one I felt bad for letting the ghouls kill when taking the tower. He held his own for a good amount of time until a glowing one took him out. Put his combat shotgun on display in my house in Megaton.
I love your videos detailing the fallout games. I never knew you could find Argyle. I let out a gasp when you found him.
So do dead ghouls somehow not rot? It bothered me that Argyle is supposed to have died many years ago but his corpse looks a fresh as ever.
herbert daring dashwood exposed Rockopolis … he got Argyle killed 😭
I wish Dashwood was a companion there’s so many characters in the game who would have made for amazing followers I mean it’s no secret that three has the weakest cast of followers in the series compared to the other games the only good ones I’d say are Butch, Fawkes, Charon, and Dogmeat. Butch for his shared history with the lone wanderer and his greaser personality Fawkes for being the gentle caring giant he is and his “and his war cry” and Charon even though he hardly talks he makes up for how bad ass he is and finally Dogmeat for well he’s Dogmeat the goodest boy but those are really the only followers I like and would say are good the rest are just alright just not particularly interesting and you have characters like Dashwood, The Mechanist, Antagonizer, Sarah Lyons’s, Sydney, Reilly and her rangers, and the whole damn Mothership Zeta cast so many interesting characters and some who were even temporary followers like imagine being able to offer Sydney to continue the partnership after competing stealing independence or joining forces with the Mechanist or Antagonizer depending on who you sided with or leaving the Mothership with Paulson Elliott and Kago helping teach them how to survive this new world hell I can see my lone wander going out of his way to learn Japanese to communicate with Kago so many missed opportunities and I know that the talented modding community have made some of what I mention possible but still waiting for Dashwood and Elliott companion mods those are the two followers I want the most and no one has made mods for them yet or at least no mods I could find
I thought it was cool he was real in that world and still alive. Good they added this quest to the game.
In my game he kill roy, a glowing one and several feral ghouls, he only died because corner himself where his terminal used to be.
i accidentally found the cave one time and before connecting it to daring i always thought maybe charon was argyle but after daring an argyle separated he changed his name, lmao glad to know i was wrong
Tbh I’d love a dlc of a young Herbert Daring Dashwood and his adventures
Sounds pretty fun
Wait a minute, I’ve found Argyle alive, has no one else found him alive?
Can't say I've ever seen him alive before, even the fallout wiki doesn't have that down as a bug 🤔
I’m guessing it’s a result of the walking corpse bug.
I don’t remember much other than seeing him alive and talking to him
You are definitely mistaken. Or remembering wrong.
I like how you read the players dialogue In your voice and let him answer
Can we put a collar on Herbert and send him to Paradise Falls?
Love your videos
THE EAGLE CLAW!!!!!!! 🦅
I gotta replay these games, the Mao is so small but there's still so much I missed. I didn't know you could find Argyle, I thought it was just an open ended mystery.
In this video they say ghouls smell rotten, but in the "Clark" video it says he encountered feral ghouls that did not smell like decay.
Love that Tress MacNeille does the voice of Petunia! Can't help but picture Leela! ❤️❤️❤️
Yeah sniping with laser weapons was legit in fallout 3, then new Vegas added spread to basically every weapon but that one special hunting rifle
with this videos i can understand things what i can't do when they are on spanish, or at least they are incomplete
Man, I have to go back and replay these games, there’s so much I missed.
It would be neat if someone could mod in Argyle as a companion
Another Great video Bro 🤠👍
