I have hiked that part of Red Creek in low water. Actually everything in the movie. It’s good to see it when it is full of water. I was a class 3 (some 4) kayaker, and now a inflatable boater. Age has slowed me down, but I love the sport. Good movie and be safe. See ya on the river.
Thanks. That was the highest I had done Red Creek and I did not know exactly where the worse hydraulics were located. I wish I could do this creek more often but it is hard to catch.
Any chance your friend would check water level at the bridge. There is a gauge painted on the downstream side of the bridge on river right facing downstream. The hardest thing about catching this run is knowing water levels.
@@JohnMoorekayak they just had a ton of flooding this past weekend, I don't know of the current levels. They got 5 inches of rain in about two hours. Blackwater river at Davis peaked outflow around 4500 CFS, current CFS is 1800
@@jman1121 we were headed to do red creek yesterday but were afraid we would not get there with the roads being closed. Hoping blackwater holds for a good level this thursday.
John, why do you put music over natural sounds? In my humble opinion it would be more realistic to hear sound of water and voices on the background. Just saying. Great video as always. I have put it on my bucket list, seems like a very cool run. I saw Kyle Mandler there. I paddle with his father often.
I thought music would be better than the constant rushing sound of the river. I edit the videos just for the best whitewater parts of the run so I don't ever have any talking in them. I wish I knew what people like best it is fine with or without music for me. I just thought other people would like the music better. I use the uncopyrighted music that youtube provides otherwise I would have better sound tracks. I don't want to use copyrighted music and have someone else have control over my video somehow.
@@JohnMoorekayak The music was incredible thank you very much. Would love to know a track list from that. Rockin'! Your video was gorgeous, and action-packed. Have spent 3 decades backpacking the Sods, and it's remote and beautiful. Wonder if there are whitewater rivers in the Cranberry? Even more beautiful than the Sods in there. Otter Creek, too, right? Can you kayak them all at level? I love WV. Bear Rocks, Watoga, the Fall Creek Falls all within reach from there, and special places they are.
@@pdunay1 thanks. Otter creek hasn't been kayaked since superstorm sandy it is full of downed trees. Which is a shame Otter Creek is a fantastic run. The cranberry river and Williams river both have good kayaking. There is also the cherry river and both of its forks and big laurel and little laurel that go into in the cherry. The music comes from UA-cam it's their free uncopyrighted music the songs are New on the Block, New Sneakers, Noble Dub, Off the Rebound, On the Table, Orange Blanket, Otis McDonald, and Speakeasy in Crescent City.
@@JohnMoorekayak Thanks, will check them out. Nice to know about the Cherry, wonder if any trails run along that, haven't been there yet. The Cranberry is it for me, I've seen some beautifully ethereal spots back in there. Still, kind of scary, even for the experienced. Have been 'misplaced" in there several times, and no blazes in most cases, as I'm sure you know. Barely made it back twice, lol. Anyway, keep paddling like that, you'll always have good dreams. Out. -pd-
Haven't seen this one yet. Catching up on the JM catalogue healing a broken rib. Did you get out of that hole (8:20) or were you rescued? Looked like a bit of editing after.
Great video. I backpacked that area many times years ago. So cool to see Red Creek from the view of a kayak. Thanks for sharing!
Your welcome
Awesome run. Nice job getting out of that violent little hole.
Thanks I thought I was gonna swim for sure

Thanks Red Creek is a great run with water
good video, that was some fast water, great hydraulics

I know a friend who has a cabin along the river near the trailhead. That creek turns into a river with just a bit of rain.
It is amazing how fast the river goes up and down with rain.
