  • There is a lot to consider when investing in a new backpack. Volume, torso size, pockets and straps, materials, hip belts, frames, and cottage vendors make the options numerous and decision stressful. In this video, I show you which packs I use and help you make decisions in buying a great backpack for your next hiking trip.

I didn't need instructions on what backpack to select, but I watched anyway. One of the best videos on the topic, I must say

You didn’t say why you no longer use your Zpacks Arc haul. I’m curious why.

It is too big and I wasn’t a fan of the arc system.

I am looking into that heavier Waymark pack you talked about. Mainly because I hike with my dog and I carry all her gear and food. So four or five day hauls are actually like carrying ten days of food. My Arc Blast handles it but if I need to carry much water it seems to be pushing it. I am assuming this pack would carry much better? Any thoughts on this. I read in the comments you did not like the Arc system. I am not sure why but the new Arc Hauls the arc is pre set, this is something I wish I had with my Arc Blast. I train often with my Granite Gear pack and I will admit it really does handle the weight much better then my Blast but my back really sweats without the Arc and air flow. Nice video, thanks

Thanks. I am taking my Waymark out this weekend. It is great for heavier loads. Extra padding. The material is also very durable. I could be sweaty in warmer temps but frame helps.

@@MidwestBackpacker Thanks for the information. I am getting this pack mainly because we plan on doing the Colorado Trail next summer and from watching your videos and others I know there will be some extended water hauls. As an East Coast hiker this is something I don’t ever really do. I am thinking of just doing the 160 miles east west loop to get my feet wet with west coast hiking. I have done some west coast hiking but mostly shorter trips or technical rock climbing in the Tetons but not putting in big miles. Take care

@@mtadams2009 thanks. Collegiate west was the most difficult section of the trail. It’s great, just don’t over estimate daily mileage. Jealous. I love that trail. Centennial Trail in SD is another good one. 125 miles with a west feel to it and not the altitude.

Yes!!! I hate the brain. It has the stuff I need on the trail, but don't use at the campsite so it gets in the way.
